beloved:  We actually know someone in the Air Force that lives off base down there, but he and his wife are actually here in Michigan now visiting family until sometime in Jauary.  And my sister lives down there, but they are about 3 hours away.

  • DoriBry

VintageGal-YAY!!!! So happy for you.  Enjoy every moment!

  • VintageGal

Anti M ~ Thank you! I love looking ebay for vintage Navy items. Like warriorprotector said there are some sweet silk pillowcases with poems as well. I wish I knew the year of the pin but maybe there will be a year on the back. It was only $15.99 so I had to get it!

  • partyofseven

VintageGal- I will have to check out EBay as well. I don't really shop on there but I really love that pin.

Lol about what your daughter said. :)

  • belovedbyHim

VintageGal!!! WOOHOO!!!!!! YEA!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! Soak up every moment that you can get!!!! Give her extra hugs from those of us who can't hug our sailors!

  • Anti M

Somewhere buried in storage, I think I have an antique Great Lakes pillow cover.  I do have some of my dad's things, but more from the 60s, things that mom hung onto.

  • Shanny

Just thought I’d update everyone on the food situation...  the sailors in ROM have started receiving meals!  Finally. On day 5 of ROM.

  • VintageGal

Ladies, thank you so much for the well wishes! Have a wonderful night :)

Ebay is great for Navy mom finds!

  • VintageGal

It’s great seeing pictures of your sailors!

  • partyofseven

Shanny- Thanks for the update. That is great news that they are getting their food now. God is great!!!

  • belovedbyHim

Imlaotvhe-- I was just reading through emails and realized no one answered you.  Wisdom Teeth were usually removed during Week 2 day 5 of Training so that would not be the cause of a call this soon.  They have the initial PFA at the end of Pdays and it's possible that he didn't pass that.  Sitting around for almost 3 weeks is not the best way to ensure they all do well on the Initial PFA.  However, they will work with him and he gets to try again in a few days so as long as he really pushes he'll be fine.

DallasNavyMom-- YEA!!! Time to mail off all those letters!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

DallasNavyMom - PIR's are still being held on Thursday so it should actually be 1/28.  Here's the link to the January 2021 PIR group:

    PIR JANUARY 2021

    Shortcake - great picture!

VintageGal - enjoy having your sailor home!

  • Shanny

DallasNavyMom:. Let the letter writing and mailing begin!!!!  So excited for you!!!

so happy for all the letters, phone calls, boots in the house, and movements of our loved ones!!!

Also want to say welcome to our new members!!!!  We are so happy you are here!  You have found the right place for support. We will laugh with you, cry with you, get angry with you, and celebrate with you. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Someone will answer. If your question gets lost in the endless chatter here, please ask again as we will never intentionally ignore the question!  We have moms here in ever step of this process from just joining to having graduated to being in the fleet to having completed their service.

well, BNMHs to everyone!  I have to finish this last chapter of the book I am reading so I can get the dog out for his dinner time walk. (I can’t just leave a couple pages now can I?!?

  • DoriBry

DallasNavyMom-I know that feeling of relief when you see that letter.  So happy it finally got to you.  My son's letter had his graduation date as 1/29 also but saw it posted as actually 1/28.

  • Shortcake

Hi Dallas and Dori - 1/28 is the actual PIR date and 1/29 will be the date they release the video you can watch.

My son's PIR wrote 12/17 in his form letter and I was able to watch the video today. That is why there are 2 different dates :).

    Hope that helps!

Shanny - So so so glad, the meal debacle was solved! Sheesh, not cool. Yes, post pictures! I love looking at pictures and following the journeys.

Thank you all for the love and support!

  • Shanny

Shortcake:  this is from the PIR pictures RTC posted!  My proof of life photo back in September. There was no guessing it was him. Could even read his name on the uniform(which is why I blacked it out)

  • Northwoodsmom

Vintage, I know your way to busy to read this but I just gotta say give that boy a extra squeeze for all of us. Congratulations, do happy for you but also very jealous. Alot of Joy in that house tonight.

  • Northwoodsmom

Sorry Vintage, I didn't realize it was your daughter, give her a extra squeeze, congrats.

  • VintageGal

Northwoodsmom ~ Thank you! :) I think it got lost in translation somewhere but yes it’s my son. Would you believe that I’m home alone right now? My sailor is out with his fiancé and sister at the moment. I’m cleaning and making dinner. I will definitely try with all my might to get in an extra squeeze!! I saw the hug that his MIL got in a video (who he doesn’t actually really care for) and she got a bigger one than I did! I’m just thankful that he’s home...

Have a relaxing Friday night ladies <3 BNMH
  • Shanny

VintageGal:  I’ll give you a big old Navy Mom hug!!!  I am so happy for you!

  • NewMilmom

Sailor in the house just now...

  • belovedbyHim

    NewMilmom-- HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • NewMilmom

I picked up my living breathing Sailor tonight too... fun listening to him at supper table with dh and middle daughter...
But he informed me that he doesn't do hugs now...I am trying not to cry as had hoped for at least 1 hug.
  • Northwoodsmom

NewMilmom, I am so happy for you. I truly believe the hug thing has something to do with the declaration they had to sign to come home. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. If they make this promise to the Navy they take it seriously and it just shows the type of remarkable person he truly is. God Bless you as you share this time together.

  • belovedbyHim

NewMilmom-- Oh No He Didn't!!! There is No age or stage where they have outgrown the need to Hug their Mother!! If for no other reason than that their mother still needs their hugs!!
As I say to my Adult Kids... "Come here and Huuuuugggggg your Mother!!!!"

  • belovedbyHim

Now, if it's Navy restrictions.... I'll put on a Mask and Scrub in sanitizer but I'm still hugging my kiddos!!

  • Northwoodsmom

belovedbyHim, did I mention how much I love your spirit. I will second that with all do respect of course. A Mom needs that hug like a ship needs it's seas. God Bless!

  • Chipmunk

Okay! I have to at least chime in on the hug thing before I go to bed and try to catch up in the morning!

NewMilmom - I would look at your son and say, "Maybe you don't do hugs, but I still do and I need to hug you!!"

Northwoodsmom - There is something in the UMJC, I think? because my son told me about it prior to PIR (his younger brother likes to "galumpf" him), that when they are in their dress uniform there is to be no PDA, so that if he did give me a hug after PIR it would be very brief. Well, every other mother in that drill hall was getting a hug, and I was taking a picture of youngest and then dad getting a hug. When I went to get a hug, my sailor said, "I have to go - I have to get my orders taken care of" - and I did not see him for 5 hours before I got my hug.

No more - Now my son is back to his old self! He and his gf both rushed in the house the next day after the plane came in (we quarantined them separately away from me) and I had my mask on and they both ran over to hug me!. Mind you, I was actually running a fever and we had just had the phone call that my COVID test came back positive. I got that initial first hug and shooed them away. I kept my distance and for a week I prayed for my fever to go away and my temperature to get back to normal - When it did, I made sure I hugged my son and he hugged me!  - They weren't concerned about getting sick and they had to go back to a 14 day ROM. I was concerned though about them getting sick because I knew they had to get back on a plane and return home. I didn't know if they got sick if they would have to have their temperature taken at the airport or not. It was definitely not the Thanksgiving holiday I expected. But I know that my sailor needed that hug from me as much as I needed one from him.

There may be something with some of the commands that are telling them not to hug - but it may also be an excuse. And my son was a hugger before he left for BC and he misses it as much as I do.

Oh, and I have never washed my hands so much as I did while I was sick and dry them with paper towels! - I am with belovedbyHim on this one.

  • Chipmunk

I am so happy for all of you that have your sailors at home with you. As happy as I was to just have my sailor at home, it was not the leave I had planned, especially when his gf had asked if she could come join us because she wanted to meet me. (I wanted everything to be perfect for her.) My youngest daughter ended up having to cook the turkey at her apartment and had only half of the family there. I stayed at home and wrapped the out of town gifts and talked to my MIL on the phone. My MIL did not get to come down to see my son and my out of town kids + grandbaby delayed their trip - so my family picture was minus a few SOs who were working, but I finally had all of my kids back home for a holiday - even if it was about 4 days later and we were outside, socially distancing at a nearby park, eating KFC!!  - Having my sailor home was better than nothing, but I still had some Gumby stretching I had to do and flex those Gumby muscles. My oldest had to remind me to not feel guilty over it all and not take the blame. Looking back a couple of weeks out, I needed to embrace what I could make of the moments. They go by too quickly and after the next weekend with my g'baby's b'day - My daughter looked at me and said - "I knew how important this was to you as well, and we couldn't risk us getting sick and then you would not have been able to have enjoyed this moment, nor would we."  That was why they delayed their trip to see us and the rest of the family. I had allowed myself to get hung up on all of us being together on Thanksgiving day and I could not think outside the box - I needed my daughter's perspective to help me.

  • partyofseven

Milmom- Loved the picture of your Sailor. Lol

I am so glad your Sailor is home to. Enjoy those hugs anyways and enjoy your time together!!!

BBH- You were cracking me up. I have said the same thing to my kids amd if I have to put on my mask and do the sanitizer I'm still going to get a hug!!!

VintageGal-  I'm sending you a bigger hug!!!

Anti M - How was the day?

Enjoy the evening ladies, I am watching Bad Moms Christmas, having a glass of wine and finishing the tree. This movis is hilarious!!!

First day of winter break!!! Whoo hoo.

  • Chipmunk

Shortcake - today has been good but non-stop busy with family, whether in person or on the phone. With 5 kids + SOs + MIL and extended family, well...

We ended up with an interesting cupcake combination that actually turned out well. It was a Betty Crocker German Chocolate cake mix with Pillsbury cream cheese frosting that I had added some peppermint oil extract to. They ended up tasty!   We took him and his friends to one of our local bowling alleys that have a good pricing for b'day parties. Since we did it in the early afternoon, they weren't busy.

Short version, since I haven't gotten the long version done - Your son's ROM at Nuke school will be different than what is going on with newly arrived sailors at their duty stations, especially if there ship has been out to sea and headed back into port. (Lots of varying scenarios with that one.)  NNPTC is going on holiday stand down and the best answers to some of your questions is to ask in the Nuke Mom's group. I can also check with another mom whose sailor just arrived.

Ladybluefire - I went through the same "prep" for my sailor's gf coming to visit. But I know my house wasn't as spotless! Hugs!

  • Northwoodsmom

Chipmunk, I am so sorry, some how I missed the fact your Sailor was home while you were sick. Sometimes I have trouble wrapping my head around why these kind of things happen to such good people. It was wonderful that your son hugged you, my family are huggers and that's probably why so many got sick. The NNPTC put out a paper on some of the rules that the Sailors were suppose to follow while on leave and my son explained some of them to me while we were down at Goose Creek. I just wanted to make Vintage feel better and give her the explanation that might be the reason he was so standoffish. Believe me I got my hug, a firing squad couldn't of kept me from that. I also know we are suppose to be strong for our Sailors but this Mama cried like a baby in his arms when I had to leave him in Goose Creek. I might of protected him all his life from all kinds of things but I could never protective from my tears. Sorry but they have always stained many of his clothes through out all of his life, when this Mama is sad or happy nothing can stop the tears. It's the way God has wired me and until he wipes them all away they will stain my cheeks.

My boy landed in San Antonio last evening!   Woohoo!

And now that we got his pictures, I have a question.  I had asked him to be sure to order a Keel book based on what I had heard from you all early on.  I've got his receipt and a Keel book is not on there, but a cruise book is.  Is that the same thing?  If so, he didn't order it.  On the order form that came with the pictures, there isn't a Keel book or cruise book listed.  Is it too late to order one after the fact?  If not, how would I go about getting one.  And I'd want it for his first division since he was with them for all but one week.

  • partyofseven

    Andi14Here's another link:

    Boot Camp First Weeks Timeline

C'sMom- Good Morning. Yay I'm glad he made it there safely. Whoo Hoo

If you have the order form is there a number on there that you can call? Here is the link in case you need it.

My Keel book came with our order but it came 3 months later. I didn't receive it with his pictures.

If you can call the Nex photo dept I believe it is they will be able to help you. And I posted the link for you just in case.  :)

  • C'sMom

    partyofseven: Thanks for that information.
