I woke up this morning to rain and it's been wonderful. I hope it rains some more today.
GsMom21- Good Morning and I am not sure. I'm sure there are other moms on here that have used an AirBnB as I have never used one. You might be able to use some of the info that we posted and see if you can do a little searching and see if some come up around the base area or not to far away.
Let us know what you find out. :)

Morning prayer:
Thank You, Heavenly Father, that I am Your child. I want to know You more and pray that as I seek You through Your Word and come before Your throne of grace, in prayer and praise, You will show me more of Yourself. Instill in my heart a desire to seek You more and search for You with my whole heart, and I pray that I will discover a depth of Your perfect character that I have never seen before. Let me reflect You in thought, word, and deed, as Christ is being formed in me. In His name I pray, AMEN.

GsMom21, our PIR was canceled but I do know mom's who had them booked back in 2020. When we go and visit our son in SC we always book a Airbnb and I haven't been disappointed yet. My daughter also stays at them, if we are going for more than a day or two that's what we do. You aren't all cramped into a hotel room and there is room to play games and hang out. Just make sure you read the reviews and be careful with location. Chicago area has alot of crime. One of the other Moms live 40 minutes away, I think it is Annie, she might be able to direct you on areas to stay away from.
Excited for you!

Had kind of a question that maybe moms who have sailors already can answer. My son is in a division where there are several recruits who just won't keep their mouths shut. Gets everyone in trouble, keeps them up at night, he says it's one of the bigger divisions with 93 members I think. He is feeling upset about being punished for their actions. We explained that this is part of boot and hopefully the RDCs get them in line. He has tried to talk to them and they resort at night to get the watch guard I believe to pipe them down. any positive words that I can give him.. We are using Sandboxx. Thanks.

Phoenixmom
Trey eventually they will not end with 93 members they will get weeded out, they will probably remain with 30 to 50 in a div. if that. tell him to keep doing what he is doing these others will be sent home. its sad that they wasted their time to go in and not follow the rules just to be kicked out, I feel sorry for the parents. It happens all the time and yes the whole Div. gets in trouble for them.

A lot of them go in thinking they know it all and we all know what happens to know it alls. it just isnt reality. My son went through that as well with a few guys but eventually they buckled up/straightened up while the rest got sent home.

Trey- My son is going through the exact same thing right now! It’s tough because I don’t really know how to help him handle it, but we just have to keep encouraging them! From the minute I got my first call, he’s complained about his division talking too much! Hopefully someone in authority can get it under control and will realize who exactly is doing it all and those who are complying!

My daughter is currently sitting on a plane, and has been for an hour, waiting to take off on her way to GL. She said that there were several guys at MEPS this morning who would not shut up, and had to be dealt with. It is frustrating for those who are taking it seriously.
Aug 10, 2021
Phoenixmom
it truly is frustrating and you probably will hear more as you go along. this is how it is some div. do not have these problems and a lot of them being sent home cause they cant pass PFA, but you will have div. weeding out those that cant obey.-Happens all the time more that you know.

When my Son came home because dad was Passing away, he worked at a Recruiting office and he would talk to those that wanted to sign up, I tell you he came home so mad because the silly questions they would ask and all they did was joke around and not take anything for serious. he said if they were going to act like that its best they dont waste their time joining because they will not make it. True story!

Trey
Glad to hear he isn't alone. They are heading into the end of their 3rd week. I am so proud of him sticking to what he is suppose to be doing and tell him so. We got a surprise reward phone call yesterday morning from him.. They did something right. and he says he will call Sat as it is the mandatory call and if they do good, maybe 30 minutes. Fingers crossed.. This is so tough on all of us.. but we'll get through it.

One thing these individuals fail to realize is that the RDCs are not just making sailors, they are building these recruits into people that they would be proud to call shipmate, who will have their backs in a crisis. They need to be able to count on them.
My husband spent most of his career in the coastal/riverine warfare community. One of the worst things you could say about someone was "I wouldn't go up the river with him."

mustangmom65 Right! too funny! eventually they will learn. whether in the navy or homebound they will eventually get it!

Trey-- Just keep encouraging him to do his best, Follow orders and keep his head down. The RDC's are not fooled, they know who the trouble makers are and while yes they all suffer the consequences there is a Method to that madness! They are training all of them that all it takes is one to mess up and every sailor on the ship could pay the ultimate price! They (the SR's) will either learn this lesson or the RDC's will be all too happy to send them home! In BC it's the order of No talking but in the fleet if they do not follow an order immediately and without question it could cost lives! As Mustangmom65 said-- these are the RDC's future shipmates, They have to be comfortable and confident in them that they would "go up the river with them"!

Good Evening Everyone,
Trey- Hey, it really is frustrating when this happens, But there is always someone or a few of them that just don't want to listen and follow the rules and the whole division pays for it.
Mine hated it (they had a few that you were like really) he was so glad when he also got to do watch while the others had their wisdom teeth taken out. He already has his out so he was happy.
They do learn. Tell your loved one to keep his head to the ground, listen and follow the rules and be there for the others. That's what the RDC's look for as well. I just kept telling mine that I was so proud of him, that he could do it and that God has him and that he was going to be ok.
He was. His division turned it around, they won some flags and the majority of them all graduated. it does happen thou you start out with a lot of SR's but you don't finish with a lot.
That is awesome. A award call there's nothing better. Yay. Yes you will get thru it and so will he.
Mine also worked at his recruiter's office and he said the same thing. Some of these guys just don't get it. It's sad really.
mustangmom65- Exactly. You want someone that's going to cover you and watch your back that's for sure.
Pizanche- Hey. So so true. They know what to do and what not to. The time will go by fast and slow for you now. You are in the home stretch!! Whoo hoo.
Keep sending them praises, encouragement, listen to them as they talk about it. They will get stronger and they will make it.
And so will you moms and dads. :)

Hi again ladies! My husband wanted to add something to my previous comment about his time on the boats. He was a boat captain, and the patrols always had two boats. The captain of his cover boat happened to be the company commander of his sister division (all male but still referred to as a sister div) from when he was in boot camp.

Good morning everyone. Just wanted to pipe in on the conversation of the problems of not listening and following directions with the divisions. I do remember my son telling us his division had problems getting it together but at the end they stilled earned the Battle "E " honor flag. It was to recognize that they were a Honor Training Group for Battle Efficiency.
The Commanders will use tactics like " your the worse division they ever had" to motivate their recruits to do better. With all the extra PT and other disciplinary actions they learn perserverance and to come together and help each other over the challenges and hurdles they face. Not only does this make them better Sailors but they form such a strong bond and friendships that will never be broken. It is during this time they truly become brothers and sisters and realize they need each other in order to make it through not only BC but through their Navy Career.
I know this is hard on us mothers, we do not want to see our children punished for someone else's mistakes. There are all kinds of different personalities at RTC and the Commanders job is to take these and forge them together making the smartest and strongest United States Sailors. That cocky smart mouth kids that was responsible for you having to do all those planks and push-ups could someday save your life. It's the Commanders job to figure out which ones they can train and which ones to weed out.

HI there ladies. Today I woke up feeling a little blue so of course here I am. Still waiting on either a form letter or a letter letter. Day 20 but who is counting :). If I did not have this site to remind me there are lots of reasons it can take a bit longer I think I would drive myself nuts. Here in Indiana my youngest went back to school last week. So strange to only be sending one off this year. I just wanted to say I always enjoy everyone's positive messages and all the great info. I hope everyone has a great rest of your week and weekend.

Hi Partyofseven, don't post much on here unless I feel something I have to say would benefit the other Moms. I am doing great, excited to see all of our students. Occasionally I will see a couple of them through the summer but this year seems to of gone by awfully fast. Of course I was helping out at another school and had a variety of cakes plus one big wedding to do. Staying busy makes time fly. Our student don't start here until September so I have about another 2 weeks before I start in-service, then let the fun begin, can't wait. Did I mention I love my job!

belly's mom 25 - I'm feeling blue today too. My daughter arrived in GL last night. My three oldest kids all joined this summer, she was the last to go. I still have two at home, but it is a drastic change to our family dynamic, and I'm still reeling from all the emotion and stress. Having a co-worker throw me under the bus this morning didn't help. My husband came in and found me in tears. I think they were yesterday's tears that I tried hard to keep a lid on for my daughter's sake. Somehow they find a way out! ;-)

My Co workers know me already if you dont want nothing bad said then shut it UP!!!!! I'm sorry I can be mean at times but Co workers just look out for themselves or the ones I work with anyways. I dont play games, I'm too old for that but i will give it to you straight no problem!

Phoenixmom, yeah I worked at a veneer mill for 30 years and some of the ladies were very catty. The two awesome workers I work with now are very considerate and if I am teary eyed they usually come in with a hug. We always show each other respect. Little eyes are watching us all the time and it is a must we show them how to treat others. I am very Blessed to work where I do.

That is Great northWoodsMOM! I work with lots of women and the women here are plain lazy.......No other words to describe and always want to be right when half the time they have no clue! LOL! its a challenge, but I am not the ONE! that is why I am always asking for forgiveness because I am tried constantly! my motto is if that you are going to speak, speak on what you know not on what you think you know, and if you cant say it to me then hush up cause I am the one to confront you, and there are no little kids around just grown women who act like a child. LOL!

Good Evening everyone- It is good to see all of the encouragement from everyone! BC is just the beginning of the emotional roller coaster ride so hang on and go with the flow!! May you all have a restful peaceful night's sleep!
As for the talking at BC, that is the one thing my sailor shared that his division had to work on as well, so I think it is a lot more common than we realize when we are reading our own individual letters.
