AntiM, that statement had me rolling. That is so true, when my daughter and I went to Charleston you could pretty much tell a Nuclear Sailor just by looking at them even without a uniform. We stayed at a Airbnb apartment complex and could just pick them out, even at restaurants in Park Circle you just knew. Most of the time we were spot on. Sailors carry themselves different also, head held high and very well mannered.

  • JenningsMom

Sailormom—your a sailor mom for sure now!!

thanks for all the great info everyone!! Good to know as we are attending PIR next week

  • belovedbyHim

SailorMom -- WHOOP!! WHOOP!!!! WHOOP!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!   Safe Travels!  Be sure to get a hug for every Navy Mom in this group... (That's 13509 hugs btw!!)

Roenick9 -- Welcome, Let us know where you are in your journey and how we can help.

Anti M-- HAHAHA!!! Yep the hair cut, the perfect posture and the deer in headlights look...  you can spot them a mile away!

  • Chipmunk

SailorMom - Congratulations!!! Remember to come join the Beyond BC group and to change your sailor status to Enlisted on your My page!

Jules - I was actually wondering if CASH was needed or not. When we were there, stuff outside the hall was cash only but inside they were able to take credit / debit cards. It is good to know that you need extra CASH.

Roenick9 - Welcome to the group! We are glad you have joined us!

    Everyone have a restful night!

  • Pizanche

Morning all! Congrats to your new sailors!!! I am 1/2 way through my trip. Leaving in a few for the last leg (about 8 hours to GL) drive 8 yesterday and am tired. Still haven’t heard from my son but am hopeful I will today!! Fingers and toes crossed! Good vibes!!

  • belovedbyHim

Pizanche-- Wow you are up early again!! Drive safely and try and get to bed early tonight; Friday's a BIG Day!!  Praying you get your phone call soon!!
    Good night!

  • SailorMom, ASWarrior

Morning, friends!! Thank you all!! I’ll try to get in at least that many hugs!!! I definitely am a sailor mom, now!! I’ll let you all know how PIR and liberty goes for us, my son is staying at GL for A school, also!

  • belly's mom 25

Congrats to all of you with kiddos graduating. Does the I am a sailor call typically come in earlier in the week like a Tues/ Wed or does it stretch sometimes till Thursday? It seems like they are all across the week on here so maybe bs are through out the week for different divisions.

  • SailorMom, ASWarrior

We got our call on Wednesday afternoon! My son’s division was in the middle of the division numbers that are to graduate on the same day, so maybe they go in order division by division? That’s just a guess, I’m not for certain about that!

  • ChosenBlessings

Our call came Monday evening. His division was the first in numerical order last week, so it does seem that they go in order that way. I believe I've read that they run anywhere from one to four divisions through BS a night.

  • Northwoodsmom

Pizanche, prayers you get that call, if not keep going he might of just had Battle Stations later or maybe just couldn't get to a phone.

Both you and SailorMom have a safe trip and may the time with your brand spanking new Sailor be Blessed!

  • Jules

I didnt get 'the call" until the day before graduation. Try not to worry. Battle Stations are LONG - and hard- and some still have duty in between. My Sailor literally got 6 hours of sleep in 3 days. My understanding is that the do go in division order. His division had the highest number that week so they went last.

Congrats to all who got the call! So excited for y'all.

  • Pizanche

Still no call. Just make it to IL!

  • Roenick9

Thank you for the warm welcome.  This sight has already answered more questions than the recruiter.  So instead of being frustrated with miss information we are rolling with it.

Our Journey just started. Our SR is in week 2 (I believe) of Bootcamp, after quarantine. We got our letter about PIR date of Oct. 15 "subject to change".  After BC schooling in TX.

My questions at the moment, is since we would have to travel out of state How long after the ceremony will we get to see her. Letter said subject to change 1-2 hours. I got the impression we could take her off base for a quick lunch. Is this correct or will we have to remain on base?

Also every time I try to access the web http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/  I get an Error message. Saying traffic is high.  Any tips or thoughts?

At the moment all of this is surreal. So I will be reading a great deal of information from the rest of the moms on this sight.  Like I said you all have been far more helpful than our recruiter. Thank you so much

  • CopaJenny

For Sarge's airport shuttle, I would like to find people to share a round trip ride.  Does Sarge find matches, or is there anyone here that is headed to Ohare for 9/24 graduation that would like to share?

  • JenningsMom

Yes I am excited to get the I am a sailor call as well.. our son graduates 9/03 so we are waiting for our call!!!

Roenick9 - Welcome to the group! Been here last year for my son with NO PIR bec of Covid, now I’m back for my niece who’s projected PIR is on the 23th of a Sept, and A school will be in Pensacola, so it’s all new to me.

As I read thru - they allowed liberty (off base) after PIR and must be back by 9pm, remember they have to walk back to their ship/barracks  about an hour from the gate and the drop off parking/area starting to get packed as early as 7:30pm. Please read back pages from Aug 12th, you’ll get answers and tons of info about The new PiR rulings

QUESTION: is it worth it to bring our new sailor to the heart of Chicago? With all the traffic and limited time? (All depends with what my niece wants to do, I’m the designated driver wheeeww)

  • Gigi

    Typo - 24th of Sept

    Happy Thursday!

  • Anti M

Gigi, I would not try Chicago because she will only have a few hours after PIR for liberty.  Honestly, only those staying in Great Lakes should try that on Saturday.  There are plenty of good places to eat and relax nearby.  Gurnee Mall is a favorite.

  • drc2873

Roenick9  - how did you already get your Form Letter with PIR date if only in week 2?  My son is in week 2 and we haven't received anything yet.  He got there 08/12 and no need for quarantine for him.  Thank you!

  • Gigi

    Thank you Anti M

Since the feeling of BC came back all of a sudden and needed more info,  so I went  digging info that would help my questions here’s what I saw/kept during my son’s BC days

    Good Morning Everyone,

I am late posting this morning.  :)

First of all Congratulations to all of our brand new Sailors and their families that will have PIR tomorrow. It is so exciting.

Pizanche- Safe Travels and have a wonderful time. Give your loved one a hug from me and thank your loved one for their service. Please don't worry about the phone call and keep on going to GL. Remember my call didn't come until Thursday evening and I was already at the hotel.  Lol.  :) Big hugs to you!!!

Sailor Mom- Whoo Hoo Congratulations to you and your brand new Sailor. I am so happy for you!!!

Roenick9- Welcome to our group. We are so glad that you are here and that all of our information has been helpful to you. Sometimes we seem to know more than them.   :)

As for the form letter it really does depend on the mail and if they the SR's have to wait for their division to fill up, it could be their mail person is just getting trained. Remember No news is good news and you will hear something soon. I know it's hard. hang in there and we are here for you!!! Big hugs while you wait!!!

    Welcome again.

keep those phones on you at all times and that ringer on loud as you don't want to miss any calls.

CopaJenny- Good Morning. It is good to see you posting. How are you? If you know your PIR group, you can join that group and might be able to find some others that would want to share a ride with you.

Welcome again to all of our new members. We are glad that you are here.

  • belovedbyHim

belly's mom 25 -- BS depends on where in the Training group you are. They run 1-4 Div's through every M-Th. Which means they will make phone calls M-Th. You can read more at https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/battle-station...
    Or watch this Video here

And this story about why and How BS21 came about. h
    ttps://allhands.navy.mil/Stories/Display-Story/Article/1840427/lessons-learned/
While BS21 is not a secret remember we do not post on this page when your sailor is going through it. You can say this week but not Today. And of course you can post after it is done!! We want to Celebrate with you!!

SailorMom, ChosenBlessings -- You are correct, They go in Div Order. and it’s 1-4 Div’s

    JenningsMom-- Just one more week!!!
Gigi -- You are the only one who can answer that. Traffic is going to be your biggest obstacle. Ask your Sailor what SHE wants to do. They have been going nonstop for 8-12 weeks! They may just want to relax and have a laid back day with you!

drc2873 -- Roenick9’s SR has been there longer than 2 weeks based on PIR date. Her SR may have shipped early Aug to do the 2 weeks Quarantine then 2 weeks of training that has her just short of a month in. Your Form latter should be arriving soon but the post office is all kinds of messed up!!! I sent a letter on July 6 and it just arrived this past Monday, Aug 23rd!! That’s Nearly as long as an 8 week BC!!!!!

Roenick9-- The Recruiters job is to say whatever they need (Without downright lying although the truth does sometimes take quite a beating!) to get these kids to sign on the dotted line and ship out to Great Lakes! They are not there to help the Parents. They are not there At all After your SR leaves for BC. They are Legally not allowed to give you information after your SR leaves (There are those who do and they will not get in any real trouble for it but it’s why we tell you not to go asking for the address. They are not supposed to give out that information.) They have one job and that’s all they are there for.
As for your question of how long you will have with them after PIR. The answer is Anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 days!! Your sailor is due to fly out but whether that will happen early Saturday or not till Monday or later, No one can tell you except your sailor and even then not until that week or even that day in some cases! You have to decide if it’s worth it to you and your family to spend the money traveling, Knowing that you may only have 15 minutes but you may get longer. Most folks get all day Friday. The Lucky ones get Saturday and the Blessed ones get Sunday!! I have no problem getting through on the link you provided. Try a different browser.

CopaJenny-- Check with Them. Due to COVID many transportation companies have not allowed ride sharing. I know you are going to be vaccinated but confirm with the company first.

  • Pizanche

Sitting outside the NEX welcome center, picked up tickets AND GOT THE CALL!!! Proud mom. Thanks to all and congrats

  • mustangmom65

Thank you!!!! I am beyond excited. I am humbled and proud. After tomorrow is over I will try and write about what happened. My son is going to SC fo A school.

  • belovedbyHim

Pizanche -- My fingers are crossed that he's not leaving till Monday so you get the WHOLE weekend!! You can let us know after he's left!

  • partyofseven

Pizanche- Whoo Hoo That is awesome!!!!

We have another Sailor on board!!! Bravo!!!!

    Hooyah!!!

Big hugs to you and give your loved one a hug from us!!!

Have a wonderful time and enjoy all those hugs you are going to get!!!

  • Northwoodsmom

Pizanche, congratulations so very happy for you. Enjoy your time with your son. My son has been in SC for a while now so if you have any questions just ask. Again so happy and give him a extra hug from us!

  • Roenick9

drc2873 I may be using the wrong terminology. We got a 4 page form talking about graduation date, and we got her address with ship number and division.

We were told she would not need to be quarantine since she was vaccinated, but when she got there 8/1 they apparently did quarantine them so her Day 1 was 8/16. Her phone call she spoke of the quarantine and she is mailing this letter. We got it 8/23 (I believe). We had 7 days to reply whether we are making the PIR or not.  Only 2 guests allowed.

  • Roenick9

Pizanche...Happy Dance. So happy for you

  • belovedbyHim

Roenick9 -- that sounds like the form letter. It's odd that she had to quarantine if she was 2 weeks past her 2nd shot and had her card.
  • lmftnavymom21

Beloved- we were warned that my son may have to quarantine if there is not a large enough group to start when he gets there.

  • lmftnavymom21

Linda- We have been told that it is depending on how large of a class they have at the time of arrival. My son was vaccinated back in April so he was cleared on that end but it just depends on numbers.

I reached out to his recruiter today and there is no address for him yet so he can either be getting out of quarantine or they don't have it in the system yet.

  • drc2873

I received a letter today from my SR!!! It is not the form letter,  but a regular letter!! I do have his Div # so I'll be joining that PIR group.. I am over the moon with joy!!

  • lmftnavymom21

How exciting drc. Based on what you said I am thinking/hoping our sons are together since my fully vaccinated son also got there on 8/12!! This post just made my day!!

  • drc2873

Lmft.. I do hope they are together! I hope you will get a letter soon!

  • Chipmunk

Pizanche and anyone else that I missed with a new sailor, congratulations!

  • JenningsMom

Pizanche—- congrats!!! Whoot  whoot  a sailor is in the house!! I’ll be in your same spot next week lol.

  • K⚓️

Jenningsmom, exciting! I'll be in your spot in 2 weeks. Be sure to update us how it goes.

  • Northwoodsmom

Linda and Imftnavymom, my son was in even before vaccinations and Covid. He had to wait 2 weeks for his division to fill up before he started BC, so this is nothing new. He was at RTC for 10 weeks and that was early 2020. I don't no if this matters but he was in the first division after the division before him graduated. They however were not placed in quarantine.

  • JenningsMom

K— Yes as rules chains I’m interested to see by next week how liberty and things like that go. I also heard by it only being two people who can attend you can go Friday morning and see if there any extra tickets so other family members could go. We will see

  • partyofseven
