    Hi my navy family,

I haven't been on for a while but I just read everyone's posts so I'm caught up lol. I just went through all the pics posted and they are so awesome!!!

Is anyone's SR graduating 1/7? My bf still not wanting me to go to PIR because Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in the US.

  • Northwoodsmom

love4Leo25, not knowing the situation but if your boyfriend sent you the form letter and not his parents, or if he has no one that will be present for his graduation I would encourage you to go. There is a limited ticket for only those on the firm. Great Lakes is further North of the problem area of Chicago near Waukegan. Alot of large cities have high crime problems and Chicago is at the top so you need to be careful everywhere. I went to see my son who is Charleston where the crime rate is also high,  but the base is in a rural area and I felt very safe. I hope this helps you make a decision, can you travel with someone so your not alone?

  • love4Leo25

Do you know if they can call a parent on their parent's birthday?

  • love4Leo25

Northwoodsmom - I told my bf I am going to my son's graduation no matter what and I will be very careful. His girlfriend is going and I don't know if she knows the high crime rate up there and I want her to be safe. I think the two of us will be fine. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • partyofseven

    love4Leo25- Good Morning,

We also went up to GL for our son's graduation and it was fine. Just hang around and you will have your loved one with you so that will be good.

As for the calls it really depends on their division and if they have earned any extra call time.

Welcome to our group. We are glad that you are here. Prayers for you to receive a call soon. Big Hugs to you!!!

It looks like the changes we have hearing about in BC will be happening in 2022.  Extending BC from 8 weeks to 10 weeks.

  • Henry's Mom

Hello to all the new Navy families and our veteran ones.  Just stopping in to say that I am wishing you all a Merry Christmas.

I know it's hard when your recruit is in Boot Camp - forcing your family to learn new ways of dealing without them with you on the holidays.  Take heart - they are being cared for and not alone.  And it's preparation for the future years when they may not be home at specific holiday times.

    Hugs to all of you!

  • partyofseven

Henry's Mom- Hello and Merry Christmas to you and your family. May you have a wonderful blessed holiday, Big Navy Mom hugs to you!!

    Merry Christmas everyone!!

I know some of you were hoping for calls today. BC is just the start of us learning to stretch our Semper Gumby muscles as well as for our sailors. Some years you will be able to celebrate the holidays when everyone else does, other years, you will celebrate when the opportunity arises for some leave time. We never know from one year till the next.

  • partyofseven

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to our group. We are glad that you are here.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope that the day was the best that it could be without your loved ones there. I know it is hard. Take it one day at a time and keeping busy is key. You will get thru this and when you do finally get to see your loved one it will all be worth it!!!

The extra phone calls are earned and it really depends on what is happening in their divisions at that time.

Remember they are missing you as much as you are missing them. Boot camp is just as much for us as it is for them!!

We are here for you as you go thru boot camp with them.

You will adapt and sometimes you might be celebrating on a different day than the actual holiday. Big hugs to all of you!!

We've got you and you've got this!!!

  • Krystal

I got a call from both of my SRs. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Best Christmas present a mom could ask for !!!! My heart is filled.
  • Northwoodsmom

Lindsey and Krystal congratulations, I know exactly how you feel. Those voices will strengthen you to get you through the next several weeks, hold on tightly to them. So happy for you both!

  • navy girlfriend

Can we send pictures to recruits or will they get in trouble ? I was thinking about printing out some photos on copy paper and writing around it.
  • Trey

we sent them.. keep them like 4x6 or smaller. we tried not to overload him with a stack lol but definitely pics of us, our pets, and the home. also Sandboxx lets you upload a picture with each letter you send if you are using it.

  • navy girlfriend

    Thank Youu
  • Chipmunk

Navy girlfriend as Trey said, yes you may send pictures.  Your idea to print and write around them are what some others have done as well.

  • Chipmunk

Lindsey & Krystal - I am so happy that you received calls. I hope some others received them as well.

  • partyofseven

navy girlfriend- hey, Yes you may send pictures just make sure they are no bigger than 4x6 and you should be fine. I did the same, copied them and wrote around them. I also sent him some prints and it was ok.

I just picked 4 or 5 of the family, our animals and one of him with his friends. No glittery and or music cards or they will get into trouble.

Welcome to our group. We are glad that you are here.

Lindsey- hey and that is fantastic!! This is why I said we are never sure when they will call and it's always good to have that phone handy and answer every call!!

I know your heart is happy and isn't it so wonderful to hear their voice!! Big hugs to you!!!

krystal- Hey and whoo hoo that is great not one but two calls from your loved ones!! Yes it is!! That feeling will last you for a while and it is so great to hear their voices!!

I am so glad that you ladies got phone calls!! Awesome!!!

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to our group. We are glad that you are here.

No question is ever dumb and some one will answer you. Remember to keep that phone on you at all times and that ringer on loud. You just never know when a call will come thru and you don't want to miss any.

For the ones that received calls over Christmas Praise God and it is always good to hear their voices. It makes your heart happy and you know you will hear from them again.

    Good Morning Ladies!
Wishing you all a safe, happy, and healthy 2022!!!  My SR is finishing up week 7.  Three weeks to go!  We’ve gotten 2 calls and 1 letter.  Pining for more news, but thankful for what we’ve gotten.

Appreciate the support from You Ladies!!!

  • love4Leo25

JCNavyMom - I'm right there with you in the same boat. I think the same thing. Only 7 days left WOW. When should we hear from our SR's? This weekend? I have to work New Year's Day and can't receive phone calls at work.

Do we need to have a negative Covid test for domestic flights?

For the anchor wall decor...do we put the ship/div they are in right now?
