Well, darn and double darn. My husband got a call from our son that he didn't pass his PFA and he won't be graduating this Fri. Apparently my son said that he would "get a new ship" but he didn't tell my husband any details. From looking at the RTC website and old postings here, it sounds like he might be put into FIT (he passed the run but not the push-ups) and I'm pretty sure it will be Ship 4. Does anyone know anything about FIT? If I don't know for sure, where should I send his mail? Does he still get a PIR? I am so sad not to be seeing him on Fri, luckily we had refundable tickets etc. Argh. My heart is breaking for him but I am trying to not let this get us down so we can continue to send positive letters and prayers his way. Any info from other Moms would be super appreciated!

Susan Phoenix, I am so sorry, my son also struggled with those darn push-ups. He also was good with the run and the situps. They knew he was struggling early enough that they assigned someone to work with him and he really helped him with his technique and he did pass his final PFA and graduated on time. Wondering if he just had one bad day or if he had trouble with them before that. I also thought that they got another try at it after 24 hours but I could be wrong. Someone will work with him and he will nail it. I am really sorry you are disappointed not being able to see him this weekend but things will work out. Hang in there sometimes a delay is actually a blessing we cannot see at this particular moment.

Hello Moms! Good news...my SR made it out of RCU!!! Stress fractures healed and she passed the running requirement of her PF test and is in a new division. She had to pack so quickly that she didn't have time to call both parents with her new address, so I'll get it from her dad. But she's on her way to continue her training. God is good, ladies.

Susan Phoenix, you might want to hold off of canceling those tickets for a day or two. I was reading in the forum section on this and one of the Mom's canceled her airline tickets because her son called her he didn't pass his PFA but later that day he got to retest and passed. He was put in battle stations with another group and graduated on time. I would hate to see you cancel everything and then end up trying to rebook it. Perhaps someone else can give you a clearer picture. If you want on the top of this page in the blue ribbon select forum and then type in failed PFA or PFT and you can read it for yourself. Sorry I can't be more help!

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to our group. We are glad that you are here.
Ummi- Hey and that is great news. It is good to hear from you. Prayers for your loved one to continue strong.
Susan Phoenix- I am so sorry to. Mine struggled with the running portion. I don't think I would cancel them out right but maybe change the dates so you'll still have them. Like Northwoodsmom said check out what she suggested and let us know how things turn out. I'm sure some of our other moms will be able to help to.
How is our new moms doing? Try to have a great day everyone!!

SusanPhoenix - My apologies for not seeing your message yesterday and replying it was a busy day for me. I wish I had more information but FIT and RCU are just not on my radar that much. I did reach out to our Beyond BC group to see if anyone there might have some information, but I don't know.
Hopefully, your son will be able to call again and give you the new address for his division. The waiting and praying is hard. This is one of those moments when we just have to trust that even if we can't talk to or share written words with our child, that they will know our mother's love is pouring its heart out to them on their behalf.
Ummi's daughter was in a different situation, but I am sure that she would say, don't give up hope and keep your positive thoughts going.
Ummi - While I am grieving with SusanPhoenix, I am rejoicing with you. Oh, I know how long this has been for your daughter and what joy you are experiencing. May she continue to get stronger daily, run the race and finish strong.
Their PFTs don't stop once they leave BC so it is important for them to continue with their daily core exercises and workouts even at school and in the fleet.

SusanPhoenix - I'm sorry to hear about your son not passing his PFA. Unfortunately only he can tell you when his new PIR is. Hopefully he's only set back one week. And they do work with them to get them to pass.....

Thanks everyone for your words of advice and your own experiences! My son called last night and said he was going to FIT, Ship 4. Is there a group for that? His graduation date is moved from 2/4 to 3/18 (I think that's because there were 2 weeks with no new recruits due to the holidays, then an extra 2 weeks because boot camp is now 10 weeks instead of 8). He said he was short 2 push-ups but made the run. But he didn't pass the PFA overall. Shoot and darn and lots of bad words that I don't normally say.
Anyway, he was supposed to graduate this Friday. I'm glad we got refundable/changable airfare tickets. Well--from everything I have seen here and on the RCT website, maybe one of the most important things for our kids is for them to learn to be their own folks--with our support, of course, but they do have to learn how to overcome adversity on their own. My son says that the daily Bible quotes from Sandboxx have been really helpful, so I just bought another 4 weeks, and another package of tokens so I can write frequently.
If anyone else has experience with an SR in Ship 4, please do reach out to me. I am torn between being all-in supporting my son, and secretly hoping he will just come home to us! I don't love that feeling, but it's totally there.

Just for everyone to know--he was able to call again a few hours after the initial call to his Dad's phone. So we were able to get his new address and division--which, as expected, is Ship 4 Div 099. He only had 30 seconds for the first call, and maybe 2 minutes for the second with his new address. He is in week 8 right now and his scheduled PIR was 3 days from now. Anyway, we couldn't learn much more than his new status/address with that second call--just for future parents if they end up going through the same thing.

Hi @SusanPhoenix! My son is in the same division, it seems like a pretty good group. (We've only had one letter and one phone call though so far, his "First Day" was Jan. 11 I think.) He said they are doing well as a group, so I'm sure they will help your son get to the 18th. We have our tickets as well, so fingers crossed for smooth sailing!

Susan Phoenix, I know this might not seem relevant but after seeing the weather down in Chicago for Thursday yours son's postponed PIR might be a Blessing in disguise. Just wanted to put a silver lining around what you are going through. I thought about you all when I seen that weather. It would of been heartbreaking if your flight would of been cancelled. God has his arms around you. Just a thought.

SusanPhoenix -- I'm so very sorry that your son has been set back! I'm sure it stings that he was so close and now it feels so far. One of the good things is that he will likely get to participate in PIR. Normally if they are only set back a week or 2 they do not participate in PIR with the rest of that DIV. You may want to have him ask once he's had a chance to settle in. That may be another silver lining to all of this.
Keep up with the encouragement and letting him know that you are still proud. And yes, We know that feeling of wanting to just have them come back home and be our kid again. You go right ahead and vent all those feelings! Yell into a pillow, Punch his bed, Write nasty Letters that you then shred!! Get it all out of your system! We are here if you need us. While we may not have been in your shoes we still care. We will be beside you on this journey cheering for your SR and loving on you through this little bump on his Navy Journey!

Good Afternoon Everyone!!
How are we doing? I apologize for not being on this group more. I am on several others here, and I also have just been working on projects in my house since we have snow. I am happy to stay inside. I was going to shovel the walk to my mailbox, but it is still snowing! My husband is staying with our kids at their place closer to his work and then they closed so he is teleconferencing today!!! LOL!
That is okay with me though, I can focus on my work and he on his.

THU??? If it's already been asked, or if there is a group, etc - please direct me to it.
My son's PIR is 2/11 (next week!). His recent letter said I should look into THU, because rumor is that HM rank is going to THU - and could be awhile. Again, it was not officially said to him. But can anyone tell me info on this? AND, if he's in THU, does get get liberty?

Autumn96 - My apologies I missed seeing you had posted here in the BC group.
From what I know about THU, your son will likely be able to have liberty after PIR and may possibly be able to check out for the weekend. So, I would plan for staying the weekend, just in case!
For everyone - Here is the link to the RTC (Recruit Training Command) FAQ - Recruit Training Command - FAQ (navy.mil)
I would urge anyone with a SR to check out the BC website and read through all of the information that they have for your benefit. This was my go to when my son was in BC as I did not find this group until the week before PIR.

There is a lot of information on these pages. I would usually book mark mine so I coud find them easily again. Or copy and paste and put on a doc that helps too.

Hello everyone!! New here and we are DEP for June. Northwestern Ohio based. Overwhelmed with all kinds of questions, trying to find answers before asking. My momma heart is nervous, scared, and excited for my son, as he is feeling the same. I know that you all have been there, so will always be looking out for encouragement......and pointers.

JNMnavymomOH - We are glad that you are here and introducing yourself. Yes, all of this can be very overwhelming. If it helps, you might want to write your questions out separately and see which ones seem to be either the most pressing or top priority for some clarity and post those first. Then you can go from there. My son left for BC the end of June after his senior year. We had so much going on with our family before he left that I hardly had time to think about him leaving until he was gone.
One step at a time.

Yes, June is going to be a busy month for us. We have 2 graduation/goodbye parties and a family vacation with his siblings. I hope they do not send him early. He has meetings with the recruit office now 2x month, I guess to prep him better. I am trying to write down my questions and the answers. I just printed out the PT standards so we can get a jump on those. I can't do much about the swimming though, at this moment. Thank you so much for being so warm, welcoming and willing. It helps to know that there is support available.

JNMnavymomOH - I am not certain, but I don't think he has to accept an early request for him to leave. I know they wanted my son to leave in early May and I told his recruiters, "He still has to finish high school." So, the recruiter said, "That is fine, he can just leave when we have it scheduled."
It is very important that he is able to accomplish his PT. My son was out running early in the morning a few days a week, and did his pushups and sit ups (I believe they are doing planks now), daily. He was on a swim team for a few years, so had his swimming, but the floating is where some of them struggle with. So those are things he can ask his recruiter about.
Also, they should be encouraging the Deppers to be doing PT at the meetings as well.

Hello everyone and Good Afternoon,
JNMnavymomOH- Welcome to our group. We are so glad that you are here. I was half asleep last night when I read your post. :)
Mine was also in the dep program and they wanted him to leave early too after he graduated as well but he said no and left in August instead. Now that was almost 4 1/2 years ago so I don't know if they give them a choice now adays or not. Mine also meet for twice a month then 4x's a month when it got closer. They also meet for pt time and work out time.
I am going to post some information for you to read over before hand.
Also. what mine and I did was write each other a note so when we were missing each other we could read it when ever we wanted. He said it really helped him on the days he was really missing us and home.
Another thing that some of the moms did was have their loved one record a message on their phone so that way you could listen to it whenever. I like both ideas.
Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for RTC.)
We made a check list after I read this and it helped out a lot.
