Good morning All - I heard from my son yesterday!!!!!  HUGE rush of emotions when it happened.  He even sent a quick picture of himself with a small smile - melted my heart.  Not sure he was supposed to do that, so I hope he didn't get in trouble, but I sure appreciated it!!!  I now know his division, ship # and graduation date, so the info posted above makes more sense to me now.  I am SOOOOO looking forward to the next contact with my son!!!!  Deep down I know he's fine and taken care of but a hug from a loved one can mean the world when going through challenges in life.  I truly appreciate all the welcoming comments you all made and appreciate the information. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!  I hope you all have a blessed week!

ProudmamaMRD3 - PHONE CALL! - Yeah!! I am so glad that you had a call from your SR, (seaman recruit) and that you have his address information and can look up his PIR date.

  • Lara

ProudmamaMRD3 - Congratulations!! I couldn’t believe how wonderful it felt to hear from my son in that first call. It is such a relief to hear their voices and how awesome to catch a glimpse of his picture too! It helps too, I think, to know that in having reached that first phone call, that you know he has made it through some really difficult weeks of adjustment and he is finding out every day, how to be successful at boot camp. Good for him!! He’s moving forward every day!!

    Welcome to our new members - boymom5 & RedPhoenix74

We are glad you are here. This is the Comment Wall area that I shared on your profile page. It is the best place to come say hello and ask questions.

  • Chipmunk

RedPhoenix74 - I saw your post in the main room chat which is not always noticed by our members for some reason or other.

Yes, you should wait on mailing any letters to your SR (seaman recruit) until you have their address and form letter from RTC. The recruiter does not always have accurate, up-to-date information, and even when letters are sent early, they have to wait to be delivered to the SRs until a recruit mail room petty officer can be assigned / trained to pick up and deliver the mail for each division.

There have been some changes to how the form letter and SR addresses are sent to families since my son was at BC. I believe if your son signs up for you to be notified by email with the Sandboxx App then you will receive a digital form letter versus a paper copy in the mail. You do not have to pay for letters through the Sandboxx App but you will get his address a little quicker.

Here is a quick link to our information on the Sandboxx App for BC

Hi to our new Navy moms coming on board..

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I’m having major issues with the site and can only post from my phone/tablet.

Trying to get it resolved ASAP

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Unfortunately I still don't have access to update groups. I've been working with the Ad Agency that handles the site and NING and no luck. I have more dates to add to the July PIR group and also need to make the August PIR group but as of right now it won't let me.....I'm trying!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Good Morning!  I'm still having some computer issues but I think I'm getting closer to figuring it out....

We are also glad to have you back from vacation, but I know it is hard to say good bye to that little bundle of joy!

Thankful for all in this group who have shared their experiences.  We received our "I'm alive" call this weekend (along with our first letter!) and were much better prepared for the emotions of our recruit based on the other posts here. Much appreciated!

  • Trey

Hi Masaleza.. that's awesome news. nothing like a phone call or letter, or both.... glad to help out..

  • Lara

Masaleza - I am so glad you were able to talk to your recruit and get a letter! It is such a relief to finally hear their voices again! Be ready for other phone calls! I was surprised how many calls ultimately I had had by the time boot camp was over, which was a true blessing!

Here is a link to one of the information pages that is on the upper right side of this group page - Letter writing and fun stuff/questionnaire

Those of you with SR at BC may find this helpful when sending letters to them. My son always said he only had just a few minutes of time to write to each week. I did not know about this site then, but several of the members have said their SRs really enjoy the questionnaires.

  • belovedbyHim

Masaleza -- YEA!!!! Phone calls are Awesome!! Was the call from his cell phone or from the pay phone bank?  I am working to update some of our information and since my sailor is LONG past Boot camp, that can only happen when current BC moms share this information.
If ANY of our current or recent moms want to chat about BC but are concerned about posting here and if it's OPSEC or PERSEC, you can message me directly and we can keep those conversations secure!

  • londack86

Masaleza Yay for phone calls and letters! They really do get us through. My Sailor is fresh out of BC (May 9th) so I understand all the feelings and worries. This group really is amazing. Never hesitate to reach out!

belovedbyHim- all of my SR calls were from her cell phone, except for 3. When she called saying she was going to RCU and when she was FTT and sent to a new division, and one extra call she earned from her RDC that she made from the office. Even while in RCU her calls came from her cell phone and her ditty box traveled from each new division to the next with her. It was nice knowing when she was calling, though I still answered every random call.

  • Masaleza

Hi - the phone call was from my recruit's cell.  It was nice to see the name come across the screen :-)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that even though I haven't commented before now, this site has been so helpful for me over the last couple months! I have gotten a ton of info reading old comments, posts, etc. Thank you!! Now it's time for my recruit to participate in Battle Stations and I'm a nervous wreck for him and his division. Hoping to get THE phone call in the next couple of days. Until then I'm digging around and reading through all the graduation info I can find so that I'm prepared for next week! Lol!

  • belovedbyHim

DSKI -- YEA!!! I'm so glad that this site has been helpful.  Be sure to come let us know when you get that call! We LOVE to Celebrate with you!! If you have questions about PIR week(end?) don't hesitate to ask.

  • DSKI

belovedbyHim - Thank you, and I will!!  In regards to PIR I'm starting to stress about the fact that we won't be arriving in the area until late the night before PIR, so we won't be able to get our tickets until the morning of. If anyone has info on how long that will take, or how long it takes to get on base I'd appreciate it. The RTC website suggests being there like an hour early and I'm a "15 min early is on time and on time is late" kind of gal. If it's up to me I'd be at NEX to get our tickets at 5:30am when they open. Lol!! But then my husband and teenage daughter might be a little cranky.

  • Trey

hi.. and that's awesome news so glad we could help and can't wait to hear about getting the call..

  • belovedbyHim

DSKI -- Your Hubby and daughter can sleep after PIR (When you get home!) Your instincts are correct.  I'd not get there much after 6 simply because you then need to get on base and that can take a while.  The Navy is also a "15 minutes is on time and On time is late" kind of organization so this is NOT the time to sleep in.  Tell them to bring whatever caffeine they need to get through it and it's just the weekend that they will have little sleep.  If your Sailor can go 10 weeks on minimal sleep, they can adapt for one weekend.  It won't kill them and they can nap later.

  • Lara

welcome to all the new moms! It’s good to see you, Codysmom and it’s great to see you, MonkeyMansMom!  Welcome!

DSKI!! Praying that call comes quick!! Blue candlelight thoughts for you and your soon to be Sailor!! I think  I watched a zillion tube Videos, everything I could find about battle stations just to get an idea of what people were saying about it and get a visual in my mind about what might’ve been happening. My Sailor Graduated Boot Camp last November. I used tons of information from Navy for Mom’s and I used tons of information from YouTube, because I wanted to see as much as I could about Boot Camp and the Navy experience that my Sailor Was going through during Boot Camp. And I have to say now, even still.

We got our tickets the morning of PIR. We did go very early, and I felt like that worked out well. Frankly, I was probably a little surprised at how few people were there to pick up tickets, so it was really easy to do. We also had gotten there very late the night before and we’re not able to go to the Sarge activity or to pick up tickets the night before.I think shortly after we got those tickets, we went ahead and just got in line to get on the base. That line definitely took some time, it made it really all the more exciting. I felt like. And we got there and were seated in plenty of time. I will  I think shortly after we got those tickets, we went ahead and just got in line to get on the base. That line definitely took some time, it made it really all the more exciting. I felt like. And we got there and we’re seated in plenty of time. I will say, I was amazed when I walked in and was seated , it already was, so don’t  dawdle— Better safe than sorry. And I would agree, everything that you’re doing during PIR Weekend is completely according to what the Navy wants you to do and when they want you to do it and for, however, long they want you to do it. And then, you’re trying to support your sailor who’s trying to follow all of the exact rules that you Sailor has learned to do.  It’s definitely worth it!!!

  • Lara

Whoops!! A little messy with my microphone dictation! Sorry!!

I meant to say, I was surprised at how full the hall was when we showed up and were seated. So it was very glad we had time to everything starting early. Be ready to cheer, and cheer loud!!
