Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones)

I hope PIR went well!! I have to admit, I was surprised that PIR was still going on due to President Carter's funeral and the federal employees were out and other state offices were closed. We got snow, so many of our schools closed as well. 

B's Are you in a Safe area?  Praying for all our service members and for all the folks in the path of these fires.

belovedbyHim - Yes, I'm about an hour from the fires.  We are getting the wind but thankfully nothing more.  It's absolutely devastating - there's like 4 separate fires burning right now. Pacific Palisades and Sunset, Eaton and Hurst.  The Sunset one is Hollywood, Palisades is Pacific Palisades - Malibu.  Literally wiping out entire neighborhoods - homes, businesses, grocery stores, hardware stores, banks, yogurt shop, a senior facility.  The list is endless.  Over five thousand structures destroyed and 0% containment......It's being said it's one of the most devastating fires in Los Angeles County. The winds are supposed to continue through tomorrow.  Let's hope they stop soon.

B's- Praying you DON'T get anything more!! I'm keeping an eye on the Eaton fire, My sis used to live there and my Niece's Boyfriend's Parents live in La Canada.  I haven't been able to get a hold of her to find out if they are safe or evacuated.

Hi MamaKatie.. welcome welcome.. there is a ton of information on these pages. Can read back to other discussions.. ask any questions, we love them and will do our best to answer.. My sailor is almost 4 years in and man it has been forever and also fast. We have lists that give general guidelines for where he will be at each week.. Answer all calls just in case.. you won't know what ship/division yet but can start writing and suggest number them so he can read them in order.

MamaKatie - We are glad you have joined us in the BC Mom and Loved ones group. This site can be a little difficult to navigate on your phone, so if need be, put it into desktop mode. I prefer to use my computer. I am going to copy and paste some information that BelovedbyHim posted a few months ago, but hopefully, it will help you have an idea of what your SR (seaman recruit) might be doing.

I suggest that our BC moms print it out and then Date it.  Use a Pencil because of those possible training delays.  Starting in the Left most Column You will put the day they arrive (This is the Day AFTER they Flew into MEPS... SO for example if your SR leaves MEPS for BC tomorrow 9-30, Then you would put 10/1 in that first box.  Continue DOWN the column then move over 1 row and continue DO NOT skip the BLANK squares... those are Weekend or Training hold days. Repeat until you reach your Projected PIR date!  Please NOTE... This is the Official schedule, but it can change for countless reasons for your Individual SR.  Remember THEY are your best source for information.  IF you have questions please ask. We will try and help or at the least try and help you find the answers."

However a lot of that information has been changing recently.  Especially the time line. 
You are not alone.  We are here to help you navigate these unfamiliar waters and find safe harbor. 
Please feel free to ask any and all questions and know that this is your Bootcamp place but we are far more understanding and patient than any drill sergeant/RDC has ever thought about being.

Thank you to your son for his service.  And thank you to YOU for your *unpaid* service!  

My son went to bootcamp 3.5 years ago, and the memories are so fresh because I missed him so much.  If  you don't have Informed Delivery from USPS, signup for that.  It is so exciting to know in advance a letter is coming.  (I would always login the night before to see what was coming the next day - but of course, when a letter was coming, it made me too excited to sleep, so maybe that's a bad idea!  LOL)

Welcome to the group!  My son was in bootcamp this past Summer.  I remember feeling just like you and I can tell you it gets better.  Probably hard to believe right now.  This site always made me feel much better.  I still come here to visit daily to see how everyone is doing and if I can help in any way.  If you have any questions someone will always find the answer.  We are all thinking about you!  Big Hugs!

Hi Mama Katie! I am late to the party as always LOL but huge congrats to your sailor. Such a big move. Our daughter just graduated from BC in November and finally just started classes at A school 2 weeks ago. Warning - the holds at A school can be long. It was great to hear BC has gone to only 9 weeks now so the weeks should go super fast. 

Keep checking this site. The moms here are terrific and heaven knows those first few weeks support is needed. If there is anything I can help with I am also happy to help. If I would say one thing it is definitely write, write, write. That first call is super hard but they get through it stronger and more confident than you can believe. The letters help a ton. Encouragement, love  and support and they will conquer anything thrown at them.
