Hi...my daughter arrived in Meridian on the14th of April she is a PSSN and will be there for only a few weeks (2 to 5) depending on how fast she goes thru the online program. Does anyone have a Sailor from GL Ship 03 Div. 117 or 118?
Hi again...We are having problems getting a package to our Sailor. It was sent on April 16th and was delivered to the Navy Base in Meridian on the 18th at 10:19am. Our daughter went to go pick it up and they (navy post office on base) say that it isn't there. I have an email with the signature of the person who received it at the base. I have spoke twice with the local Meridian Post Office and the person who does the route to the Navy Base. It was delivered. HELP where is the package? Does anyone know of a phone number that I could get to call the Post Office on base? I know that they can't loose a box that is approx. 2'L x 18"W x 16"H weighing about 50lbs.
I'd appreciate any help that I can get. We def. insured it for it's value and then some. I know our daughter would love to have her items b-4 she's done w/school. LOL
Well, my son is home and safely tucked in his own bed. He arrived home Wednesday and will be home a few days longer than we thought. He's not going to San Diego after all, well, he'll probably get there eventually, but from here he'll go to Norfolk then off to his ship.
dbbqueen; I hope they find your box soon, that's got to be frustrating for you and her.
Mrs.David's mom I'm glad your son is home. My son is graduating this morning but does not know when he will be home before going to Japan. Hopefully next week. I thank you for all your support on this group. Wish your son all the luck in world in his Navy career. Take care
@DBQUEEN:hey there, i hope you daugther enjoy her time in NAS meridian is not a big base but welcome all the sailors and try hard to made them feel like home, here is a webside where you can find any inromation that may you or her need it,also i add my phone number im one of the new ombudsman at the base and i will more than glad to help you in any matters.
Hi. I'm not a mom but there are so few support groups for LS in A school so I joined anyway. My husband just got to Meridian on Saturday. Just looking for people to keep me informed and answer any questions that may come up! Btw, how long did it take for your sailors to find out where their first duty station would be? Thanks so much.
Welcome to the group NavyWife! My son also got his orders about 2 weeks before he graduated. He was there for exactly 7 weeks. There's not much to do in Meridian but once your husband gets his green dot and phases up he will beable to have liberty off base. While my son was there he was able to take a cap with others to the mall & go to BW3's, catch up on some sports. Whats nice is now you will be able to have more communication with him.
I think it all depends, it was my understanding that LS was more self paced. I am trying to remember, my son sent me a text with clothes he wanted me to send and the day he got the box he had gotten his green dot, he could wear civies in his room when he was off duty. I think it was may 2 weeks. I can't remember how long to go off base. Does your girlfriend have a laptop?
My son had a desktop at home so he purchased a laptop at the NEX on base, it was nice to skype with him. He is stationed on a frigate in San Diego so its hard to skype now, we mostly text or talk on the phone.
We never went but I had a friend go and get her son for Christmas. Once she phases up she will beable to let you know the schedule, it will take timing so that she doesn't have duty.
NavyMami, My son (PIR 6/1) will be going to A school in Meridian. PS rating. He'll be there already when your son arrives, but perhaps your son will be at a different location in MI?
(DIV 928) PIR 05/25 (FRI) My son will be arriving in Meridian next weekend. Anyone know what the housing is like in A School? Is it like at Basic or like dorms? Also, can the Sailors have any of their own clothing...anything of their own? Any AZ's here?
TXMom; Good morning! My son graduated a little over a month ago, he is an AZ. He enjoyed his time in Meridian. It is much more relaxed than boot camp. They can wear civilian clothes, have their cel phones, and computers.
The housing was like gonavymom said, but David did share a room with another sailor.
David selected a Helicopter squadron. He said they go more places than fixed wing aircraft. He graduated, came home for a couple weeks, and went directly to a carrier overseas. His squadron was already deployed, so he joined them near the tail end of it.
Im Going To Be In Meridian When I Leave Boot In September . Can Anybody Tell Me What The Base Is Like , And What You Did For Fun In Your Spare Time ? Im A New Yorker Born And Raised So I Have Zero Knowledge Of Any Of The Southern States
Well, we are getting ready for graduation in a few short hours. @PRAYING MOM...I think we will only have today (Fri) for about 7 hours with our son. They seem to fly them out the very next day, for MS. We are hoping he flys in the evening, but I hear they make them head to the airport like at dawn and they sit and wait. The good news is you can meet them there and get a special pass to go past security and wait with them. I highly recommend going to Sarges Meet & Greet at the Sundance Saloon for a wonderful information session the night before graduation. He will give you great advice on parking, eateries, what to do and NOT do right after graduation. He will tell you the fastest way to get in/out of parking...times to arrive, etc. Most go very early, but if you follow his suggestions, you don't need to arrive so early, and still get good seating..which he says its all pretty good!
Hello my son was in Meridian for LS left there in April andis now in Japan he likes it so far. He did say not to much to do in meridian they went to the mall on liberty
hi there let me introduce myself one more time,my name is yaris i been a navy wife for 10 years now,we always been station on the E.region, around 10 month agos we had ordersto MS and im become the new NAS meridian ombudsman,im so glad to be here is an amaizing base and because is small we had a nice navy family community donw here,i know some of your kids will be here only for few weeks but i hope you guys enjoy your time on it, if you guys have any question or any concern please feel free to contact me i will be more than glad to help you all.thank you. have a nice navy day...
thank you Yaris! So nice for you to visit and comment! My son arrived there Sunday, and I think he starts training/school tomorrow. He's a PSSR, and I don't worry about him making friends, etc., but I know now and then he needs mentoring, like every other young man/woman out there on their own. I'm so grateful for the leadership he has received so far, and will continue to get from people like you and others in Navy positions with whom he'll come into contact. Thanks for caring!
hi larisa64e Ship 11 Div 168,thank you for your comments and i will look foward to help him in any matter during he's time here, im glad u know how important is for the sailors to had some one like the ombudsman to help them when they are far from home,we not only provide them with info, also we are the bridge bewteen the sailor and the command,i really hope he enjoy his time here, let me know if you need any information i will be so glad to help you guys
My son is attending A school in Meridian and is halfway through with school. Do they have a graduation after completing school. Also how do they get rank up doing this time..
Hi everyone, do I understand correctly that all LS's go to A school in Meridian? I thought the recruiter said Meridian or someplace in TX but from what I am gathering everything is in Meridian now. Just curious.
Prayingmom73- They do not have an official graduation after A school. Because the sailors can finish at different speeds, it just doesn't make sense for them to try to set up graduations
How long after completion of PS A school does it take to move on to a permanent duty station? Is there a holding company that sailors usually get stuck in for a few days or weeks?
Your son can request them; you will each receive one, but anyone over 16 will need to present a picture id. (Maybe that's over 15 years of age - can't remember). At O'Hare, there is a USO hospitality room for MILITARY members, but there are some really nice people who work there and can help you with questions. The ticket counter where you get the passes is down one level from the USO room, and to the right as you leave the elevator/stairwell. As you enter the terminal facing the gate, the counter is to your left. I think it was roped with all blue. Anyway, you still have to do the typical security measures (remove shoes/pocket items to tray, bags, etc. also; then, walk through the detector. The people in the USO room said our things would be safe alongside our son's bags, so we left them there to make that all easier. We had coffee with him at Starbucks, then after a bit, we could tell he was ready to say goodbye. It was great.
AO1toPS1, the closer your sailor gets to completion of A School, the more likely he/she will know the next assignment. If there is a wait involved, he'll stay put there in Meridian as he waits, and do simple duties like maintenance. There is an acronym (of course!) for that temporary assignment, but I don't remember it (of course!). Best wishes!
My daughter arrived in Meridian, MS last week and is a new student. She started her classes yesterday. I am really proud of her. She did great at bootcamp and she has adjusted well to Meridian. After 2 days of classes, she is discouraged and has expressed concern that she won't be able to get through her school program. I think it would help her if she could speak with the ombudsman. Does anyone know who she can speak to or how she can contact the Ombudsman in Meridian? Thanks. .
My Sailor (Son) is in Mississippi A school... Whew ... so fill me in ladies... whats it like for them in Mississippi? I would love to go visit him in about 3 weeks.. Will that be enough time for him to get settled into his routine at school? Can he leave for the weekend?
Amber: So i assume they have to earn the green dot? Does your Sailor live close to home? If not then i am guessing they can fly home? Boy i thought after BC i wouldn't have to ask so many questions.. but i guess with every new step he takes in the Navy i will still have many Questions. Thanks Amber
Paige, if you go to MM, please let us know what its like. I am hoping to make a trip there while my son is there for school and I would love to know what its like. Amber, Its been nice talking with him on the phone. Yesterday was his first full day in Mississippi, I called him in the mid morning to talk with him he told me he had a free day that day.. so we talk for a few min and he said he better get off he wanted to get his stuff moved in and put away.. I laughed so hard .. all he had was a backpack on his back when he arrived.. lol He call later and i said so how did the move in go? lol he said he went to the nex and bought new underwear .(hates whitey tighties) and did laundry .. so that was his big move in. Cell service was is not that good there and he did learn he is not aloud to be on the phone while they are walking ... Hung up on me very fast.. called back to let me know another sailor inform him of the big NO NO haha..
