I agree with you Jana....100% . Craig does have a daughter. And a great sense of humor!

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Thanks for the funny, Craig.  I'm going to print it and send to my hubby, he needs a good laugh while he's in bootcamp!

  • Craig

Sorry, just trying to me funny.....

I do have a warped sense of humor and just trying to bring a smile to each of you while your sailors are gone.  I talk and work with sailors 24x7, and the humor in the Navy is a little bit different.  While on 8 month deployments, humor is the only thing that keeps us going.  Frankly, it's one of the things that still keeps me going.

As far as my daughter.  My entire family is military.  She was raised in that environment.   You become part of that.   It's almost like if you go into a gang area and every third word is a cuss word.  You become part of that society.  Frankly a better example is, my daughter saying the word "like" every third word.  It was her "click" that taught her that.

But I'm not here to push blame on society for my warpness.  You are correct that I do need to tone it down in environments that I haven't fully understood yet.

Again, all I truly wanted to do is to bring a smile to each of your faces.  I won't let it happen again.

  • Amac23

Craig- I think we've all seen enough of you to not be offended. Don't beat yourself up. I chuckled.

And then I remembered it was my husband out there and scowled. ;)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Craig - I'm not piling on, or aiming this at you specifically.  However, the remark "humor in the Navy is a little bit different" causes me to make comment in a general sense.  The Navy is still a workplace like any other.  Humor that objectifies others can be embarrassing and can constitute passive-aggressive bullying in its underlying aim.  (As a blonde, I know some good blonde jokes, for example, but I know that an email to my best friend can be ok; forwarding to a list of employees is not.)

Once upon a time I was one of the first women in a traditionally male field.  It was up to me to choose to bite my lip and put up with lewd humor, offers to rub my neck, and much worse I won't go into; or to handle it in whatever ways I saw appropriate or the situation - address it with the person or my superiors.  (Yep - chose the latter.)

HOWEVER:  the military setting places junior enlisted (both men and women) in a tenuous, if not powerless, position to stop it.

On the last advancement bibliography (and you new moms need to what that is, by the way) was he Dept of the Navy's policy on sexual harassment.

Just read the Navy Times regularly (also a good thing to do) to see that the Navy is going zero-tolerance on this, with firings happening regularly -  so what I'm getting at is that all our sailors need to be sensitive to this issue: it's about self respect and mutual respect.   There are still plenty of good jokes to go around  :)

  • Craig

Normally this is a chatty bunch of people...  We've got to get this section back on track...

    Sooooo,

I want you to click on this picture and make it large.  I want you to find the sailor's outfit, & also the dead horse.

We can continue to beat the dead horse.  Or, we can continue to beat the sailor.  Or, we can continue to enjoy the topic of the sailors at Fort Sam.

I know you moms, wifes, and GF wouldn't be here if you didn't care for your sailors.  I don't want this section to die out just because some sailor said the wrong thing to the wrong group.  I would rather move on, than to hurt your enjoyment for your sailors.

With that, if any of you have questions that you don't understand about the Navy or you need help understanding any process, just give me a shout.

I am the group admin for several sections here at N4M:

    • (¯`'•.¸ NAVY MEPS & DEP FAMILIES ¸.•'´¯)
    • Cryptology ~ CTI ~ CTM ~ CTN ~ CTR ~ CTT ~ Corry Station Pensacola Florida and Monterey California
    • USS Chicken Ship ~ Avast rowdy matey's, belay to the Poop deck for muster...    (if you got offended by my last joke, then stay away from this area)
    • New Members Stop Here

If your sailors need any help and don't want it discussed on N4M, then have them come to my website:  www.NavyDEP.com

The only thing they need to know is I don't sugarcoat anything.  I speak the facts and let them work the issues with the known rules.

It's been fun guys...  “DingDingDing.” “Sailor, departing.” ...

     God bless your sailor!

2thldy-give him a call. He won't pick up if he can't but I seem to remember my son being free but exhausted because they were so late getting in processed and to their rooms.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Craig, it's great that you are so involved and kudos to you for that.  By the supportive emails and PMs I'm getting it seems a nerve was struck.  I joined this group out of curiosity about the new METC facility and am acquainted with RADM Kiser (just retired). In the past couple of years I've learned a great deal about the HM rating, come to know corpsman families as they deal with every emotion from joy to unspeakable tragedy, and am fiercely protective and supportive of our corpsmen.  N4M lets us learn and make life-long, close friends as part of the Navy family, it's a blessing to have.  Go Navy!!

  • DramaSoul

Craig...I have been under the weather a bit so I haven't checked in much.  I hope you are NOT departing!!!  I have a coupla questions.  What exactly is my Sailor going to be doing while going through training at Camp Pendleton? I wish there were a day-by-day description. You got me through boot camp with the NavyDEP site...now I just need one for HM and for FMTB. I know FMTB means Field Marine Training Battalion and how is that different from FMF which I think means Fleet Marine Force?  I know it means that my son will be with Marines (join the Navy to be in the Marines?). When I was at Fleet Week here in Portland, it seems that the Navy lieutenant was very negative about the Marines.  Also...and this may not be a question for an HM group but...what is the 'bells' system of telling time?  What does four bells mean, for example. Okay...I will take my answers off the air. Marcy...thank you.  This is a whole new experience and being a Corpsman is very different from some of the other rates, I am learning,

  • DramaSoul

2thldy...I didn't actually talk to my son right away.  We sent texts and eventually found a time we could chat on the phone.  It's not like BC.  Mine called me today out of the blue to ask me a question.

  • DramaSoul

Oh...one other thing.  I am going to SA next weekend.  Got the place to stay...got the car...got plans to do Riverwalk/Alamo.  Sea World may be in the mix as well.  Any other recommendations? Dress code?  Got the nice dress for graduation but what do people wear most of the time? I know it's gonna be HOT and HUMID.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

DramaSoul - here's some info and links in re FMTB and FMF ~  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/corpsmanmomsanddads/forum/topics/f...

  • DramaSoul

    Marcy...thanks sooo much!!

  • DramaSoul

Marcy...this is really great info.  Lots to learn!

  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Craig please don't go I love your info and even your attempt at humor!
  • DramaSoul

I am with Katze, Craig.  If there was a like to Katze's comment, I just pushed the like button.

  • lizinnj

Craig...don't you dare leave! Your knowledge and help has gotten many a Mom through bootcamp and beyond...including me. I love to read your posts and your jokes and humor!

  • Amac23

I third that! I get it may not be some people's humor but all in all I think your positive contributions are solid and this is not worth getting into a tizzy over. No biggie..let's all move on.

  • OKCsuzieq

I don't comment much here because I don't know much other than my son is in SA going through A school.  But everything I know about SA and A school I have learned from this site and Craig...I 4th or 5th that I hope the others will get over the humor that has been shared.  Craig I have enjoyed everything you have posted and I just hope we can move on because I love reading the posts from you and other and learning all that I can!  BTW, thank you to everyone who is sharing news about our sailors because I read them in my emails and it is sooo comforting and soul lifting to know that I am not the only one out there that feels the things I do.

  • DramaSoul

Barbie....one week from today that will be me!! I am excited for you!!

  • DramaSoul

Barbie...that's great! Lookin' forward to the weekend. :-)

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

I believe they are now on Mondays
  • mom_of_josh

Hi everyone.  My son is still an SR in Great Lakes (PIR 7/13) but is going Hospital Corpsman A school so I thought I'd get a head start and join this group.

  • mom_of_josh

txbabydocmom - thanks for the welcome.  I am looking forward to the next chapter of his adventure.  I'm sure I'll be on here a good bit.

  • Hm-in-the-Fam-Mom

Hi Mom's! I've  been busy getting ready for the birth of my grandson this week, but I was wondering what are items our Sailor's would like in a care package? I got down the snacks and energy drinks he likes, but what do they need most in "A" School?? Welcome Mom of Josh! Glad to have you here :)

  • Cathy...Corpmen Roxy's Mom

Hello everyone! My daughter just graduated from boot camp on 6/22/12 and is now in San Antonio waiting for Corpsman classes to start, they said it would be about 3 weeks.

  • Tessie

I just returned from vacation and just caught up with the reading.  I'm just a lurker and don't post much.

I really miss Craig and his posts. He has so much knowledge that I need.   I sure hope he's not gone forever.  I hope he's just at Home Depot or getting more wallets at the Dollar store.  lol :)

  • Hm-in-the-Fam-Mom

Haha that's funny, almost as funny as Craig's joke last week! I Love this site. So many comedians!!
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Residue you are too funny. CRAIG! You better not have become a lurker and better be out getting wallets. You are one of the reasons I check his site everyday! What will Craig do/say this time. Please say you didn't leave!
  • lizinnj

Ohhhh Craig,,,,,,,,where for art thou Craig?                    I seriously have some questions? Sailor started class yesterday, usually 14 weeks which puts her either the 1st or 8th of October. Are grads from A school always Monday and what happens if it falls on Columbus day?

  • DramaSoul

I agree...CRAIG COME BACK!!! I want to know more about SA since I am leaving tomorrow night AND I MISS MY DAILY CHUCKLE FROM YOU!!
  • Hm-in-the-Fam-Mom

Welcome Cathy Lorene! Glad to have you here. My Sailor is in hold mode too! One word of advice I can give. Don't ship your Sailor anything marked FRAGILE! I sent a laptop by USPS and the casing was cracked! Thank God I got Insurance on it but now have to go through the headache of filing an insurance claim. Ugh. Anyway, just a little tip for fellow moms. Have a blessed day!
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Well I leave in 4 hours to go to the airport! On my way to SA! A School is supposed to last 14 weeks which means my Sailor should graduate 8/15. But as usual there is no usual in the Navy. There was a mix up in a class or two before him. Now looks like grad date is 8/25! Gotta love it lol
  • lizinnj

Thanks Txbaby!  I hope it does fall on the Tuesday following Columbus Day..I could fly down Saturday and not miss work Friday.

  • 1proudmom

Ok..... a couple of questions I've read on here that graduations are usually on Monday but Katze you figured out that it was supposed to be August 15 and now is the 25th the 15th a Wednesday the 25th is a Saturday so I'm a little confused. Are they usually on Mondays or does it just depend when they started? Another thing Katze...can you tell me what class he's in just so I can try to figure out when my Sailor will be graduating
  • Craig

    Hey all,

A receive a bunch of  pm's (private messages, not PMS) for you guys asking me to come back.  So, I'll try this again....

I really needed to take some time off.  I have so much on my plate and this was one of those things that I just didn't need at the moment.   Just like you guys, I'm only human and I make mistakes too.  Yea, I never got to know this group well enough, basically I didn't know my audience.

I know my humor is a little over the top for some of you, and I respect that.  However, we are all "wired" differently.  God made us all different to make our world not such a boring place.  Someone will find faults on all of us for one thing or another.  Again, I totally understand that.

However, not everything has to be geared around the sadness some of you feel.  If we (this entire group) can bring a smile to each of you each day, then we are doing our part to make this Navy ride more enjoyable.  Would you want your sailors to be sad every day?  Not me.  This is why I have so many active duty sailors come back to my website.  They enjoy the jokes and the information I provide.  They help me guide those new sailors that are about to go to boot camp.  I need to keep these active duty guys entertain (as well as myself) or no one would ever come back.

To respect the wishes of those that don't like my slightly "salty" sense of humor, I have made a thread in the discussion are called:  "~~ The Funny Pages ~~    (with  a dash of Sea Salt)".  This way those of us (mainly me) get the humor I need to keep me going, while protecting yourself from humor you don't wish to see.  I really want this section to have a bunch of fun, a great laugh, and information that I can pass on to my active duty guys.

So, please try to respect me, while I try to respect you....

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Craig - I think that's a great idea, to have a discussion separate from the main page.  I'm looking forward to reading them and sending to my hubby recruit in bootcamp.  We like "salty" humor but I understand that some don't.  Glad to see your post, welcome back!

  • DramaSoul

Yay!! Craig I love the idea and look forward to reading those jokes. I know we are not all the same and I agree COMPLETELY that if we were this would be a boring world. I confess to having a somewhat bawdy and salty sense of humor. Humor is essential for getting through anything. My mother, may her memory be a blessing, had a challenging life spending almost 60 years confined to a wheelchair. She had a terrific and somewhat macabre and bawdy sense of humor and some of my favorite memories of laughing so hard my sides really did ache.

Bring on the jokes and Welcome Back! Also...what are challenge coins?
  • DramaSoul

Txbaby...is the Challenge coin something I could give my Sailor? And if so, how do I figure out which one to give him?
  • lizinnj

I bought my daughter 3 challenge coins for PIR. The Recruit Training GL one, the Sailors Creed and the 23rd Psalm. Northwest Territory is where I bought them.

  • Craig

NicksWife - I just noticed you're part of div 221.  July 20th is coming up quick....  Geez, I bet your husband has "frogs" by now.

Drama - The Challenge coins is actually what the huge thing on my plate is.  I'm working with a start up company that got the license to do RTC challenge coins.  No one makes them.  I actually designed the 1st and 2nd coin.  What has taken forever is explaining why I designed the coin the way I did, and the story behind the challenge coin.  Heck it's a 62 page PDF file.

If anyone is good at finding grammatical and spelling errors (ie they're, their, there), let me know.  I'd love to pass the document to you to have you proof it.

The company gave me 9 of the coins, but I don't need them.  So I gave them to my daughter to hand out to some of the sailors at Fort Sam.  She plans to "coin" one sailor each week with her friend but they had to be on the USS Triton.  So far they gave out 4 of them.  The sailors think they're pretty cool.

Here is what the Triton coin looks like:

  • lizinnj

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Nice Craig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Best of Luck!!  Are you doing a coin for each "ship" at GL?

  • navymom0612

Craig I would be happy to help you proof. I do a lot of that at work.
Ad you are back I'm new to this. Love to hear your advice for everything.
My son is at BC . PIR is 8.03.12 then headed to San Antonio.
  • Craig

Actually they are only doing the ships that are being used.  Some of those ships haven't been used in over 2 years and are basically abandoned.  They are issuing them like the state quarters.  What's good is each one they sell they are donating 10% back to my website as a rebate.   So I'm all for it.  It's the only coin that is missing from every sailors shadow box because sailors can never earn them while in boot camp.

I just don't want these guys to be pushing out coins without telling the story behind the coin's meaning.  Like the flags on the front of the coin.  You can ask 99 out of a 100 sailors at Great Lakes and they don't know.  That to me is sad....

  • Craig

Just to verify something my daughter told me.  She says that the Air Force is paying the license fee to get them certified to be paramedic.  She said the Navy is not paying for that certification.

    So,

    1. Have you guys heard this?

    2. If so, do your sailors plan on paying for the certification themselves while they still remember the course material?

Txbaby - Have you heard anything about this?

  • Renee

Craig - my son mentioned that when he was in SA.  I don't know if the Navy guys & gals are offered the opportunity.  He said more than once that the AF corpsmen had additional materials/study groups (...and the young women are quite attractive ;)

Maybe Txbabydocmom has some additional info...

BTW - glad you didn't leave the group!  Your jokes and overall sense of humor are much appreciated!

  • Renee

Craig - I just saw the Challenge Coin - awesome!!!!!  I hope it goes well for you!!!!

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Craig - I would be willing to proof.  I always proofed my friends papers in hs and college, and then at my last job the sales director had me proof some of his proposals

  • Craig

Nicks - Thank you....  it's a 12Meg file so send me an email and I'll send it to you.  I would attach it here, but N4M's only allows up to 7Meg.....

In the Subj line put:  Triton Doc

I get a whole bunch of emails and can spot that one pretty quickly....

    My email is:
