    @NavygirlzMom, good group for y'all :) http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pcsingmoving

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Well that was sexist.  WTH?

  • Craig

Marcy - If you have a daughter, the nest never goes away.

There's an old saying, "A son is a son till he takes a wife, a daughter's a daughter the rest of her life"........

  • mikes mom

Did you delete your last comment Craig ????

Because I own my own business is that okay Craig ?

  • mikes mom

Are you saying women need men to take care of them ?

    What are you saying?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Thanks for deleting that comment to Navygirlz, Craig.  Wow.  Newsflash:  women own businesses.  They are sailors and corpsmen.  And take care of themselves just great.

  • mikes mom

Yes, and my two daughters one was a Sailor and one is a Combat Medic stand right beside their brother who is a Corpsman : )

Oh, by the way the Combat Medic knows how to take a cab.. Never did  she complain either...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

It was the comment to Navygirlz (exact quote) "I bet if you look, your business is solely in your husbands name..."  My reaction is to that statement.

  • Craig

mike's - I did delete it.  For some reason some people think I sell coins.  I don't.  I have no desire to work all day, and run a forum at night time to hock coins.  I just designed the coin.  All sailors like them, so people talk about them, I can't stop that.  So I didn't want the subject to come up again.  It's guilt by associations.  I just talk about whatever the members want to talk about here, anything!   We are here to support each other and to keep each other having fun while their newly minted sailor is going through HM school.

With that said, yes, you have the right to promote your own business here at N4Ms. We talk about all type of stuff here.  We talk about the names of good restaurants, hotels, car rentals, taxi service ...etc....  What makes it ok to discuss those, but not someone you know?  It doesn't.  However, if you did own a business and you wanted, you could actually plug your own business 24x7 on your profile here at N4M's.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/navy-for-moms-n4m-community

If you have a product that people want, and people want to talk about it. It's not your fault.  It's what the members want to discuss.  Much like us talking about Southwest airlines.  It's late at night and  I was just getting tired of having to always explain this.  Thus I deleted it.

  • mikes mom

What are you talking about ??? Its the earlier comment that you deleted

  • Craig

What I'm saying is, I know some will say navygirlz is promoting her own business.  To to get around that rule, if the business was in her husbands name, then she could promote it all the time.  It's not HER business.

Why would what I said be sexest?  It had nothing to do with it.  Again, don't start hammering on something unless you know the whole meaning of the post.

Here is what I wrote.  Where is thi sexest?  I was trying to help Navygirls, as I would any member here in this section.

Navygirlz - We talk about all type of stuff here.  We talk about the names of good restaurants, hotels, car rentals, taxi service ...etc....  I bet if you look, your business is solely in your husbands name, so you are not promoting your own business (per the rules).  You are only discussing it just like any other business any of us talk about (ie Southwest airlines).   I say it's about anything that helps the sailor!  What makes you discussing your info any different than the rest? It doesn't.  If you did own this business and you wanted, you could actually plug your own business 24x7 on your profile here at N4M's.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/navy-for-moms-n4m-community

So what you need to do is go to the San Antonio Personnel Property office and get on the list of recommended movers list.

Another really good thing is any sailor that lives in town, and desires to move into base housing, the Navy is REQUIRED to move them for free.  However, it doesn't work the other way (ie moving from base housing to out in town).  That is on your dime.

  • Craig

Marcy - Can you tell me why you're always hammering my post?  It seems like you're the only one.  From all the PM's I get, people are thankful for my information and web links to the official documents.  Do tell....

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Craig, PMs that bothered me prompted my involvement here - new members saying they were leaving NavyforMoms.

The statement that caused my "Well that was sexist.  WTH?" comment below, is the one you deleted before reposting.  It reads,  "I bet if you look, your business is solely in your husbands name..."  implying that this woman does not know who owns her business.  And it's most likely not in her name, but a man's.  That is sexist (not "sexest") and promotes a stereotype of women as ignorant and powerless.

    Yes, you bet I reacted.

I care not about her mention of her business, and in fact suggested a group about PCS'ing to her, as she is likely a very good source of information.

I, like all moms here, am here to learn and share what I have learned.  I am grateful to the Navy and the opportunities it provides. That is all.

  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

I was under the impression that we aren't supposed to promote our businesses on this site? That is what sets this site apart from other military sites that are full of posts from members about their scentsy sales, mary kay and other businesses. I'm pretty sure I read something about it in the rules when I signed up for the sight. I think Navygirlzmom's post is a very clear advertisement for her business and I think it should be removed. This site is not for advertisements but for information about our Sailors.
  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

Some people need to learn how to put their big girl panties on and not take things so personally :) this is the internet people! People have different personalities and they may mean something a certain way and you take it a whole nother direction. I highly suggest for some of you to take an internet etiquette class at your local adult school or ROP. They may help you learn some common courtesies and how to not read in to peoples posts.
  • Craig

Marcy - Come on.  You've got to be kidding me.  Read the post.  I was helping her, just like I would do any member.  Frankly, show me anywhere on this forum or even this website where I didn't help a member.  You won't find it.  Just tonight I got 8 pm's from moms needing information.

Frankly, it was you that I thought would hammer Navgirlz for promoting "her husbands"  *wink...wink*, *hint...hint* business... heck you hammer me thinking I own coin business, which I don't.  So I wanted her to know that if the business was in her "husbands" name *wink..wink*, *hint...hint*.   then she could talk about it 24x7.   Heck the business could be in her dogs name.   If you noticed what I said "(per the rules)".  Most can read through that and tell I was giving her a hint.    I deleted my post because truly didn't want your response. Heck you hammer me for all the other post, why wouldn't you do it this time?

When I asked N4M to have you be the moderator of this section, I truly had positive feedback that you weren't one to over react.  To me, I think you did this time.  However,  I truly think you mean well by trying to keep this forum running.  It's all about supporting the sailors and the family members.

Also, can you tell me who killed ALL the post in the discussion area above?  That was years of information.  I will ask that the admin logs be pulled to find out who did it.  So if you know, please tell me....and why.....

    Do tell....

  • Teach

Marcy- you did not over react...the comment was uncalled for. What I can't believe is that some people refuse to apologize when they know they have offended someone, even if it wasn't intentional. THAT is what we learn in the south as good manners.

While this board has good information, I'm looking forward to moving on next week when my son graduates SA and moves to Portsmouth. I'm hoping the new board will be more like the other boards and less "I know it all because I've done it all my life." The commeraderie disappeared from this board sometime since April when my son arrived in SA.
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Wow can we get back to the the reasons we are here? To ask questions and share info! I had asked if anyone knows if there is a coin for SA like there was for GL. Does anyone know? I would truly love to know. I purchased a display case to show the coins I bought for my son to keep in his room at home. I am buying these coins to commemorate his times in the Navy.

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

As a staunch feminist, I am having a hard time seeing the sexism.  Comments are considered sexist when they display a belief that one sex is inherently better than another.  I have no doubt that if "NavyGirlzMom" had been "NavyGirlzDad" and had posted that "he and his wife" owned a business, Craig would have replied that the business is probably in "his wife's name". It had nothing to do with the gender of the poster/owner.

The intent was pretty clear, and I think it was meant to help the Sailors.  Because really, wouldn't you rather hire a company whose owner you've been chatting with for months and who also has a child in the same boat as yours?

  • Katze90210 (3/113)

It is because of the info like what Drama posted (about getting and staying in shape for FMTB) that I keep coming back and reading post. If there is something posted that I don't need or care to read I just move on to the next post. There is by far more great info and amusing stories then there is "fluff" in these posts. I think everyone who takes part in these posts deserves a thank you for all that you do. I continue to believe that this site is more helpful then anything!

  • DramaSoul

For those who wanted to know about HM graduation...I figured out how to post my experiences in the discussion forum above rather than have to scroll back to page 59.  The fact that I actually did this without any instruction fro a technical guru has me amazed and appreciative.  I learned how to do that from N4M.  I also learned how to add emoticons!

    SmileyCentral.com

I am with Katze...I read posts and if it's something that will help or further inform me or MAKE ME LAUGH, I absorb it. If it isn't, I move along.  Kinda like in "Star Wars"..."There's nothing to see here, move along."  OMG, my son would be SO PROUD of me that I made a "Star Wars" reference!! WOW!

And...I have found a place where people understand what I am experiencing and where I understand what they are experiencing. As I understand, according to the Navy Boot Camp, once you have mastered a skill, then you help someone else master the skill...you don't just gloat in your ability to do the skill.  I am here on N4M (when most of my division moms have left) because of that. If I can help someone with what little I know or if I can give someone a virtual hug when they are havin' a hard day, that just makes my day.  It's always good to know that you are not alone.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

@NickysWifey and everyone, this is the post that I objected to, third sentence.

  • DramaSoul

Too many "understand's" in that last post.  Sheesh...

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Marcy - I read the post, as I get all of them emailed to me.  Even when a post is deleted, the email is still there.  Like I said, I fail to see a derision of female abilities in this post. He's not saying "you're a woman, you can't run a business, get back in the kitchen".  He's saying, "here's a way to get around the rules" which may or may not be offensive to some, but let's be offended for the right reasons.  Maybe it was phrased poorly, but the intent is clearly not sexism.

  • Craig

Hey all, the discussion Marcy and I had last night was informative.  We know where each other stands.  Although we still might be on opposite sides of the spectrum, we both truly care for the sailors and their families.

The bottomline is now it's time to move on to the next subject.... Your sailors are our (Marcy, mine, and all of yours) greatest concern.  If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be on N4M's.

  • Marcia

What I'm truly impressed about is the post says 22 seconds ago, and the response is 1 second ago.  How can you read something that quick and formulate a response without comprehending the entire post?  I just timed myself and I couldn't do it.

  • Maltobella (HM - San Antonio)

I agree. It's kind of making me uncomfortable. Honestly, I'm a newbie. My son is still in basic training, PIR 9.14.12. And then he's coming down to San Antonio for Corpsman training. I have found the information on this site and your other site, Craig, invaluable. The very day I signed up, someone told me about phone cards and sent me links to information about boot camp. Since that day, people have treated me like family and I am in such awe over how amazing you all are and it's no surprise our husbands and wives, sons and daughters are who they are. Your heart's are all in the right place and I truly don't think anyone here intends to offend anyone else.

I didn't know the rule about advertising but I do now and in the future if I need something, I will post and ask people to private message me because I'd rather give my business to family.

Also, if I can stick my two cents in about the taxis, I like the idea of a bus or at least bringing the taxi situation to someone's attention. I don't think it's right to gouge people. And I think part of wonderfulness of our country is not accepting status quo if the status quo is wrong...however, it seems that the military is the exception. With my minute little bit of knowledge, it seems the reason the military is successful is because they are one unit, a machine, with all it's parts moving in synch. I don't get the impression that it's okay for our sailors to make a stink about the taxis (again, sorry if I'm not making sense...my only experience is my son being in boot camp for only 5 weeks) but as American citizens, we can address it.

P.S. I religiously follow these forums and I feel like I remember reading Craig's daughter is a sailor and him saying it wasn't fair or right that women are not allowed to be FMF Corpsman (forgive me if that's the wrong wording, I mean the Corpsman that go greenside with the Marines). I wouldn't think he's a chauvinist if what I remember is correct.

P.P.S. If I said anything out of line, I totally welcome criticism. Like I said, this is all soooo new to me and all I know is I love my son and am so proud of our sailors and feel such a responsibility to them.

    Thanks!

  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Drama. You go girl! Work that site! Oh and ditto!
  • lizinnj

Topic change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I sent my daughter Guy Fieri's picks from Diners, Drive Ins and Dives..........She and her friends are trying a new one each weekend. Went to Beto's and fell in love with the place. Makes me feel good as a Mom being able to say Hey, go try this place!

  • 1proudmom

Any ideas for a good Graduation gift for Corpsman?

  • 1proudmom

lizinnj,  When I was visiting my son we also looked up places that Guy Fieri visited and did the same thing. We went to one of the restaurants and saw his picture as soon as we walked in.  Cant remember the name of Restaurant but food was great!  LOL

  • DramaSoul

I got my Corpsman a really good quality stethoscope with his name engraved on it. He is not using it during FMTB but will be when he gets to his duty station. He said when he had a chance to use a good one he couldn't believe the difference.
  • Craig

Drama - That is an outstanding gift!   That is somethin that he will always use, and will always remember.  I don't think you could have gotten a better gift....

  • DramaSoul

Craig...thanks! I can't take credit for it though. One of our fantastic Corpsman moms suggested it.  Check out the http://www.allheart.com website.  Another gift...if your Corpsman is goin' green side...are the Fox River Mills socks. I haven't heard yet if my son got the ones I sent him (it takes about 3 weeks for anything to catch up with the devil-docs-in-training at Camp P) but he was looking forward to them because the guys who had them really loved them.  If you get those, they need to be either green or sand color to go with marpats (the Marine pattern working uniforms). That website is http://www.foxsox.com.

I hope those links work as clickable.  I have never done a clickable link before. I am intrigued that one is purple and the other blue.  Hmmm.  Any help with this is appreciated!

  • 1proudmom

Thank you for the great suggestions. I love the idea of getting stethoscope engraved. I will get my sons engraved too....thats perfect!!!!!  BTW...both links worked!

    Thank you again

  • Maltobella (HM - San Antonio)

I'm going to copycat you both as well. Absolutely great idea!!!! Thanks, Drama!

  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Drama which one did you get?

  • 1proudmom

Sorry...one more about the stethoscope....Littman?   and if so which one?  What should I look for?

  • Tally_Navy Dad

WOW!  I am away for a couple days and my emails blow up with all the posts.  Took me over an hour and a half to catch up.

I would suggest a new "house rule". . . No posts after midnight.  People get too tired and misunderstand each other's posts :-)

One other thought, we are DEFINITELY family here.  Only family members fight like this.  Glad to have Craig and Marcy on our side.  They both have our sailors' and families' interests at heart.  NOW YOU TWO KISS AND MAKE UP! :-)  Love you guys.

  • mikes mom

Hey I love the allheart.com Thanks Marcy for giving us that link .. That's a great gift for a Corpsman : )

  • DramaSoul

Proud and Katze...I will post the exact model when I get home (I am at work).  It will be about 1800 (6:00 pm PDT).  Hope you can wait!!

I am sooo glad the links worked!! I have never done that before.  I owe these new skills to N4M. Thanks FTLW and AbbyBlue!!!!

Tally NavyDad...not a bad idea.  Assuming that you are talking midnight of whatever time zone you are in! And...I agree about family.

You guys have made my day.  Some days I am feelin' a little blue 'cause I haven't heard from my son (and I KNOW I need to get use to it) so I start reading posts in the groups to which I belong.  It makes me feel SOO GOOD to be able to HELP!!!
