Unfortunately, if he's asked them not to give you information, they can't. He'll come around, just give him time. Praying for you.
  • Cynthia

I am so sorry. If you are still connected to him via Facebook then he still wants to keep ties with his family. He is young and still fuming over whatever you two argued about. Give him time and patience. I am sure he will come around when he is ready.
  • Keli_ship9div320

I have read the document about liberty while in A school but it doesn't address holidays. Does anyone know how that is handled? Is it the same as weekends depending on what phase you are in?
  • Bobbo

    Keli,

My son went to A-school with only one holiday (Memorial Day) during it. What happened to his class (and it was in the middle of the course), they gave them Friday off (travel) for a 4-day weekend. He had to be back by Monday night. Of course, a big test Tuesday awaited so most came back EARLY Monday...as did he.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Getting back early from leave - at least a day - is good practice now and in the future!  Weather, plane delays, whatever can't be predicted and not worth the extreme stress.  Keli, you can also call Navy Medicine Training Support Center HQ 210-808-1028 for clarification too.

It seems there has been quite a bit of "bad" news over the last couple of weeks for us and maybe we all need a little sunshine. It is summer after all. Since I have no musical ability at all, I love it when people change lyrics to a mega-hit. And notice the hat one of them is wearing!

    Good one! :)

  • Bobbo

    Glad you liked it, Marcy.

When my son went through a few years ago, no one had dubbed the tests anything as far as I know  :)   I figure the instructors are their best resources for  questions as things may change.  Anyone else know when the standings are released?

  • Bobbo

Congrats. Is the the EMT tests? That was what my son said was the one that washed out the folks.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi ProudNavyMom and all our new members, congrats and welcome to the start of a great journey!  There is a lot of information in the links above to get you started, and please join in and ask away any and all questions.  Lots of great parents here with current students and recent grads.

OC Mom, it's just that I have concerns about labels that may create a negative expectation or self-fulfillimg prophesy; there's enough pressure on our future corpsmen already.  As I've said here before, I took the accelerated EMT course at UCLA - the whole thing in three weeks (class all day, study all night) and the oral and written exams, and then the National Registry exam, so I know how hard the EMT is and don't downplay its difficulty one bit.  Dealing with the pressures is part of the education, and ultimately the Navy wants them all to learn well and succeed.

Good morning, all.  Well after three weeks of waiting at Fort Sam Houston, my son is finally starting classes today!  WooHoo!  He's on his way to being a Corpsman.  So proud of my son.

  • Bobbo

Mom in The O.C., It's ironic isn't it? You only know it by that name and I don't know it at all. The only thing I was ever told by my son: "there's a big test coming up."  :-)

The difference in Sailors is amazing.

My husband surprised me with a ticket to go see my daughter!  Can anyone recommend some places to stay that are close to Fort Sam?  Thanks!

  • Rhody Navy Mom

Jaime30025 - I just stayed on base at Powless Guest House! Was perfect, close to everything, had a kitchenette, free breakfast for $87 a night! Log onto ING Army hotels to make a reservation! They do book up quickly! Good luck!
  • Linsky

Hi Nick's Mom from RI- Can we book in Powless Guest House even if we're Navy parents? Are there any requirements when we book? Can we park there too if we rent a car? Sorry, I ask a lot but I am looking for a place to stay there for my son's graduation on Aug. 1.

  • Rhody Navy Mom

Hi Jaimie 30025 - yes I'm a navy mom too so you are able to book it, it's unofficial business that you check when making the reservation or call! I had a very recently renovated room, was very clean! Bfast was eggs, bacon, muffins, all kinds if toast, waffle maker, yogurt, etc. I had a rental car and they have free parking! It's on the small base where the medical center is, like 1 mile from mail post! Was very easy and VERY reasonable! I was suppose to have a 2 queen bed suite with kitchenette but a wounded warriors family needed the extra bed do I agreed to change it to a one bed suite, no big deal! I did Priceline for my rental car and got it for $25 a day via Avis!
  • Rhody Navy Mom

Jaimue30025, we ate both nights on the Riverwalk - cool place to see and eat! We ate at Lone Star Cafe - very reasonable, steaks were great! We also ate at Saltgrass Steak House, superb steaks and grilled chicken, melted in your mouth And warm homemade bread! Little more $ but so worth it! There are tons of places to eat up and down Riverwalk!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Jaime & Linsky, here's a compilation of earlier comments by moms here: Hotel recommendations by corpsman moms, and I'm adding these contributions from Nick's Mom and TexasProudMom to that Discussion too - thanks all!  :)  Any more?

  • Linsky

Thank you, Marcy-Corpsman Mom. I will look into the hotel recommendations. I appreciate your response. The graduation is next week and I need to make reservations now.

  • jaime30024 SHIP 02 DIV 930

Thank you everyone!!!  I am so excited to see my daughter and looking forward to seeing San Antonio again!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Jaime and Linsky, look forward to hearing all about your trips; have a terrific time and hug a corpsman or two (new and future) for us!

  • angelalovesD(Ship 14 Div 274)

ProudNavyMom, my son just flew in on Saturday and thought he was starting this week, but now it is apparently 2 weeks.  Perhaps they are together.  Did you PIR on 7/26?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

ProudNavyMom, glad all is going so well!   Just want to mention that most A school students don't want a plethora of care packages coming their way - most in fact say DON'T send stuff at all.  It's time-consuming for them to have to make their way to the post office and stand in long lines, and time is precious for them right now.  And anything they accumulate has to be carried in their seabag to their first duty station, or shipped home (also a pain).  They can buy whatever they need, so extra cash can be the most useful gift right now.  Best to wait till the first duty station when they get settled in, to start the care package brigade :)

Would any of A School HM whose Sailors, in class 150A/B graduating on Aug 22, 2013 moms/dads/wives, who plans on attending the ceremony, contact me?

I would really appreciate it a lot!!!!!  Thank you

  • IrinaNavyMom

    hi Everybody,

I have a question. My son was calling/texting us on a regular basis since the beginning of A school. It's been more than a week now that we have not heard from him. I understand that he might be very busy at this point, but it so happened that he also deleted his Skype account last week, and he used it to communicate with his friends and other relatives. I am worried a big deal now. Does anyone know if I can/should call the school to inquire?

  • IrinaNavyMom

Thank you, Mom in the O.C. for your support! It is really hard "to let go" :(

I just hope he's not in any sort of trouble.

He's in phase 3 right now and graduating in the beginning of September...

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Irina, I agree with mom if something was wrong u would hv heard.hang in there
  • LisaS corpsman mom

I understand your concern about your son, Irina. I worry too. my son is still at San Antonio for C school now. There were times I did not hear from him either, usually because he was studying for those killer tests. They get real serious about the grades towards the end of A school...at least my son did. No matter how old they get, your still Mom and its ok to worry. It just means we care. Over time, though, it will be a little easier. Like the others said, just give a little time or send a quick text to just say Hi..I used to so that...I didn't want to bother him with a call, so a quick text just say hello was enough. He usually would at least make a quick response and I would feel better.
  • Bobbo

IrinaNavyMom, I sent you a friend request. I may have an idea for you. Okay the friend request and I will send you a message.

  • Mia the US Navy wife

I am really desperate at this point and ask someone to help me.  I've already asked a few times on this site and METC and no one answered.   Please help me!!!  It feels very lonely when you are left out!!!  Since, i have serious marital problems with my Sailor, i do not know any important info. that as a spouse i should have known.  When i call the base, they're telling me to find out from my Sailor and there is a vicious circle.  My Sailor is graduating this Thursday, Aug 22, but did allow me to be there.  I was told by my Sailor spouse that was found in a pool of 20 other sailors, to become Corpsmen on Thu, no orders yet.  Can anyone tell me whether this is true?  Since i have reasons not to believe my Sailor, i would appreciate your help.  Is this possible????  Please help; although i feel at this point as our marriage is over, i just would like another validation that i was lied to again!!!!!

  • MorningGlory

My Sailor just arrived at HM Sunday, and today sent me a text that said she failed her weigh in. What does this mean at this point?

  • Trish from Texas

MorningGlory - it just means that she isn't currently within the weight standards allowed.  Usually, this doesn't happen right out of GL since they constantly exercise.  Has she been sick lately?  With females, they will usually re-weigh in a week.  If she's still over the standards, they could place her in a temporary 2-week hold (meaning she won't class up) to get her weight down.

  • MorningGlory

She hasn't been sick. I don't know how close she was to the standards at GL, but I'm sure she went a little sugar crazy the last 4 days and no PT. She'll have to figure out how to take better care of herself!

  • Trish from Texas

Marika - your best bet is to check the graduation schedule on Facebook that Marcy posted about on Friday - she posted a link.  If you know the graduation date, you don't have to be "allowed" to attend or not, it is open to the public as long as you have proper identification (driver's license) to enter the base.

It is possible to get to graduation without orders, and it's not that uncommon for that to happen.  The orders come from the current needs of the Navy and that can change from day-to-day.  It sounds like things are messy right now, so just remember to try and stay calm.  If you need someone to talk to, feel free to friend me.  I will be praying for you both.

  • Trish from Texas

MorningGlory - I'll bet!  I know the first thing our son did on liberty was head over to the nearest fast food restaurant for a big, bacon cheeseburger...with extra fries!  LOL!!

  • Mia the US Navy wife

Thank you all for the support.  Today, my HM Sailor, tomorrow US Navy Corpsman, called me with the orders.  So, after all, it seems as we're ok and i'll join him asap.; although, do not know when that happens????  Hopefully soon!!!!  I am still very sad not to be a part of tomorrow's celebration, but hopefully there will be many more others to enjoy!!!!  The most important thing for me is to be close to my Navy Corpsmen!!!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Congratulations to this round of graduates, and welcome new members!

  • clover65

    Thank you very much!!!

  • manderson65

My son is in group 226 and I am trying to confirm his corpsman graduation date at Ft Sam Houston.  Where can I find an updated schedule?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi manderson65, the link is posted above - look for "GRADUATION SCHEDULES AND UPDATES are posted on here: Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program on Facebook along with class photos and other info."

When you get to the Facebook page, scroll down to the post on August 16 with the latest updated schedule.

Navy corpsman Jeremiah Sawyer returned on leave from deployment in Bahrain for the birth of his daughter - and ended up delivering her on the living room floor 90 minutes after arriving home!  Tell your sailors to pay attention to everything in class ;)  Video and story: 10News - Navy corpman delivers daughter

  • BigRed

If our Sailor arrives at HM A School and there is a one or two week wait time before the actual 96 day "named" class launches, are there organized training activities for them?   Ours has located the NEX and running tracks/gym and is happy about that, and we sent along an EMT review book for him to look at.

  • daizygirl72

Good morning oregon mom! Last year when my son graduated since he had switched jobs in bc, he was in a waiting period in gl for three weeks. They worked around base from 9to5 Monday thru Friday and had evenings and wknds to themselves. His gf lived nearby so he spent some wknds with her and her family and others exploring Chicago with other sailors. As long as no one gets in trouble, because just like bc,if one goes down they all go down lol. But he had a great time!
  • Oregon Mom

Thank you daizygirl72. We will hope and pray that he gets to spend all day Saturday with us. His main concern was that he wouldn't get to leave if he was still in his SR Ship, not in THU. We we'll have to just wait and see.
  • daizygirl72

Your welcome Oregon mom! Got my fingers crossed for you!
  • clover65

Does anyone know when the classes will start for the Sailors that just arrive last weekend?

  • Navymomx2

clover65: I don't, but I know it all depends on when the instructors deem a group "full enough" to start.  My son arrived at METC 7/4, and waited three weeks (7/23) for classes to start.  Hurry up and wait!

  • clover65

Thanks for the info, lets hope they will start soon.
