I know you are aware of this, B'sNuke, but maybe for the last 5 days or so (?) I hit the Add Comment button and nothing happens, but when I close the tab and come back in my comment is there. Ah, technology! Also, thanks for pointing out the pages to the right for the newbies. It really helps with the large learning curves for us moms.
TX Mom - and others I also find with the comments at least that if I type it, hit "add comment" then refresh the page it shows up. Similar I suppose to hitting the tab button.
Thank you also for clarifying the "hazing" concerns.
NancyJo - it's all messed up right now and they aren't sure why. If you hit refresh it seems to help the comment post - otherwise the little hourglass thingy (that's the technical word haha) just goes around and around (and around some more!) And then like TX Mom said it will sometimes post your comment multiple times ~ ugh! I am beyond frustrated right now.
So according to Ning they have other accounts that are experiencing similar problems right now and they are working on it! Be patient everyone and if you type a really long post I would suggest you copy it before you try to post it. At least if it gets lost you can paste it! Nancy, I know you aren't pointing fingers ;p
My son is also graduating on November.17, and headed to SC after graduation. Anybody know if they will be free on Thanksgiving? We're thinking of going down there if he'll have the day off.
Hi everyone I am new to nuke moms. My son graduates 10/13/17 and was wondering what to expect the day of graduation. Navy for moms.com is amazing. I love it. There is so much information it’s a little overwhelming.. I already rsvp to the meet and greet for Thursday night. And what exactly is the name of the RTC Facebook page
Congratulations Juskyr! You must be super excited to see your sailor! My daughter's PIR was 2 years ago and things have most likely changed. One thing I can say is that Sarge will tell u I u to sit up in the balcony, he says it's a better view. Don't. Just sit as high as you can on the main floor. You will get to your sailor faster. It took us forever to get down those stairs!
I echo JayDee's comment on seating. As a nuke parent it is best to get to your sailor as soon as possible, since lately they have not been given liberty immediately and may need to leave to go get their orders squared away. The soon they can be on their way, the sooner, hopefully, you will have them later in the afternoon. As many of us parents lately have had to wait for awhile on RTC until we could take our sailor out on liberty.
Juskyr - I believe that bigsky21 also has PIR 10/13/17 - see if you can locate her on this group or in your PIR and maybe you can meet up at Sarge's meet n greet.
Erin & Kathryn, in regards to Thanksgiving it's possible they will have some time. Erin, my daughter's PIR was 10/30 and we spent Thanksgiving with her and she was able to leave base during the day (we had to have her back in the evening). Kathryn, mid November might be close but you'll have to be in touch with your sailor to be sure.
After the sailors get to GC and are classed up (which could take a week or two) they will start phasing up. Each phase earns them privileges (such as wearing civilian clothing, etc). My daughter could leave the base but had to wear her uniform. Depending on what you plan on doing it might be best to wait until they can wear civilian clothing when they're out and about. But always make sure they are allowed to leave the base. Enjoy!
Today is my Nuke's 21st birthday. I'm not really sure how she got to be so old so quickly! She's on duty today and we won't get to talk, but I did talk to her quite a bit yesterday and over the weekend.
Juskyr - my grandson also graduates on Oct. 13th. I didn't know if grandparents are allowed to go to the meet and greet or if it's only for parents and siblings.
Chipmunk and Juskyr, yes, my son’s PIR is this Friday too! I am beyond excited - and I will be at the meet and greet.
Granny of nine, I’m sure grandparents are welcome, I hope you decide to go!
Yes, anyone may go to Sarge's meet / greet, just register on his website. At least three of you have 10/13 PIR, and NNLori & Nukole5horses have 10/20 - Can't post long msg in pm at the moment so - here it goes.
Take cash for drinks (owner sells drinks since donates building rental-no drinks at food), Cash for raffle tickets for baskets. If tired skip those, they are last, and just donate in box by food or online to support Sarge. Best time to mingle is get there early and sign in. You sit by Div# so let each other know what you are wearing, & Div # in your PIR group. Maybe note on name tag N4M and first two letters of your nickname. It gets crowded and hard to find people, but you should be able to plan if in advance. Keep in mind you also have to get your tickets for PIR now. - Be sure to friend each other. Have fun!!
And just to reiterate you may not want to sit in the balcony, so you can get on the floor faster to get to your Nuke.
Erin, Charleston has some incredible dining and many of the restaurants offer fabulous Thanksgiving buffets. That being said, they are on the pricey side. Since we have to be a little more thrifty when we travel we enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at the Cracker Barrel near the base.
JayDee - Happy 21st Birthday to your nukette! I hope she & her hubby get to do something special ;D
I also highly recommend Sarge's Meet N Greet - it's a good chance to meet other Navy Mom's too! (And please remember that Sarge does this on his own so donations are greatly appreciated.) And Grannyofnine - you are definitely welcome at Sarge's!
Thank you B'sNukeMom! She is on duty today and will be spending the night on her ship. When she finally gets home late on Wednesday her in-laws will be there, and will be until Saturday. She's not super excited about spending her 21st birthday with her in-laws but she doesn't dislike them so it should be fine if not her ideal. Her husband did text me and ask for my icing recipe - her favorite. :)
bigsky21 and chipmunk - I just made reservations for the meet and greet. Bigsky21 hope to meet you and chipmunk, thank you for your invaluable information:)
Fun History for October 10 (this is from History.com)
1845: The United States Naval Academy opens in Annapolis, Maryland, with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors. Known as the Naval School until 1850, the curriculum included mathematics and navigation, gunnery and steam, chemistry, English, natural philosophy, and French. The Naval School officially became the U.S. Naval Academy in 1850, and a new curriculum went into effect, requiring midshipmen to study at the academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer–the basic format that remains at the academy to this day.
Thank you for all the great information... I am looking forward to meeting some Nuke moms at meet and greet on Thursday. It’s so nice to have you all to talk to about everything.. still waiting on my “I’m a sailor” call also.. it’s a little nerve racking..
Same here Juskyr - I'm trying to catch up with everyone's posts, Tuesday is my busiest day at work....I guess that's a good thing, I don't have a lot of time today to think about that phone call I haven't received yet!!!!! Ugh...just hoping it comes before I get on the plane Thursday...
Juskyr - I won't be at the meet n greet - our PIR was 8/25 but hopefully you will get to meet bigsky21 and Grannyofnine. It is easy to get confused who is doing what on here sometimes! :-)
Nicksmom - Have fun with your decorations! There are a couple of other ladies on here who have the same PIR as you do.
Hello, I'm new to this group. My son's PIR date is 11-9-17. Then he's off to nuke school. I've read a lot information on this page, but I have one question. My son married over the summer and I know she will be able to to SC, but how long is that process for them to get housing set up?
Karen- I also have a bachelor at GC, but I "bumped" a discussion forward for you. Look above in the discussion forum at Phase Married - and there might also be some answers in Moving Company in Atlanta - that was a recent one re: moving a spouse, I think.
Also, under the discussion - click on View All then in the search box above I typed in married housing at GC (maybe in GC) and there were a few other discussions that came up also. Hope this is helpful.
AngelsBreath - Yes, today is a good day!! And I pray it is a good day for your recruit as well!
Karen - we do have some married nukes on here so hopefully you will get an answer. I remember when my son had his PIR there was another nuke in his group that was married - I believe things were set up for him while in BC and he was given leave after BC to go home and get his wife and make the move back to GC. I would suggest she has as much packed & ready to go as possible because there probably won't be much time for the move. Again, hopefully someone else will chime in!
Yeah!! Finally making a dent in getting my son's boot camp graduation pictures in the mail!! I was waiting until he had classed up for his correct address. I thought I ordered more of the announcement pictures but when I started counting I didn't have enough. So had to rethink who was going to get that picture and who was going to get the wallets. I also wrote a note about what all he was doing, since we didn't send out high school announcements to everyone.
Chipmunk - good work. Did you order the announcement pictures through the photo package offered? If so, do you like them. I was thinking of maybe ordering some, but didn't have a sample to view.
Kaycee- My son ordered the large pkg when they did the pictures. But they no longer include the announcements in a pkg. So, I ordered the announcements at the NEX while waiting for him after PIR. They printed them for me and had them ready for me to pick up within an hour. I really like the announcements. They have a larger picture than the wallets, the Sailor's Creed printed to the side and then their name, Division # , GL, PIR date. The only thing was I thought there were 20 in a pkg and I thought I ordered 2 pkgs, but when I pulled them out to start working on mailing them, I realized there were only 20. The ticket was hard to read and since I had wallets also, because my son ordered extras of those for me, I decided not to fuss. But now, I need to make up another little "announcement" card, because I really like the sailor's creed.
Grannyofnine - I think the tickets replace the gate pass now, but you still have to show your car registration papers, etc. That info should be on RTC website or in the info above comments on bootcamp Mom's page. Maybe someone else will chime in.
