OkieMama!  - Welcome to the Nuke Mom page!! Let us know where you are at in this journey.

Q's Momma -  I am so happy for you!!!

Pizanche - Congratulations to your sailor!! Safe travels!!

Our big news this last weekend was the birth of our second grandbaby, a bouncing little boy! I can't wait until I can go see him and hold him. I can't share it here, but I got a kick out of what my Nuke said he was likely doing when his nephew decided to enter this world in the very early morning hours!!

I messaged my Nuke the first thing, so even if he did not see it, I could say he was the first one to know about it.

  • MomofJoseph

Pizanche - Congratulations!!!!  Have a great, safe, wonderful trip to GC!  I can't wait to hear about it!

Can anyone tell me what EP (early promotion) actually means on the evaluation? The info I found online was very old. Thank you in advance

Pizanche - from what I can find the EP "allows one to take an advancement exam one cycle earlier than their TIR (time in rate) schedule would allow".  They have to put in a chit to request it.  So I'm guessing he/she has done something exemplary and they are given the opportunity to test early....so definitely a positive thing!

Anyone else with a better explanation?

  • Pizanche

BeNukeMom - thank you very much!!

I just got back from Norfolk, visited my son :)

Congratulations to Chipmunk for the second grandbaby !!

Happy for all the graduates and congratulations!

  • Chipmunk

Gigi - Thank you!! I am so glad you had a chance to make another visit to see your sailor!!

Good Morning everyone!! I have been busy with family things but I briefly saw the news about bad weather on the east coast again. I assume all is well at NNPTC, since no one has posted questions.

Just a reminder for those who may be new to the group, and to hurricane weather. My understanding from what my sailor told me when at GC, if the governor orders an evacuation and a state of emergency, then they had to follow suit, even if it did not seem like GC would be affected.

I reminded my sailor, make sure you are stocked up on water, snacks, keep your phone charged, make sure your vehicle is in working order (during one evacuation, he drove himself to the evacuation site), and in general, make sure you are being your responsible self.

Good Morning all!! I just got back from NNPTC and Power School Graduation.  They moved it indoors and split the groups, but it was handled well! I met a lot of nice parents while being there and the airports! (Navy mom shirt) It was a fabulous time!!! I was very proud of my son for graduating Power school with Honors!! Must admit, I cried happy tears! My Sailor is on a plane now coming home.  He'll be here for a week. I get to have both my babies here for 2 days, so we will do Thanksgiving this coming weekend. I hope you all have a great week!!!!

  • MomofJoseph

Pizanche - Congratulations on your son's Power School graduation!  So happy he gets to come home!

Was there a limit to the number of guests at graduation?  We have a list of family and friends who want to come for my son's Power School graduation, but didn't know if only a few are allowed?

  • Chipmunk

Pizanche - WooHoo!! I am so glad that you had a wonderful time!! Enjoy your family time!!

  • Pizanche

MomofJoseph - thank you!!!  No there is no limit. They sent out the notice/invitation, but you don't need it when you go.  (but nice to have as a memento)

    Chipmunk - Thank you!!!!

  • MomofJoseph

Pizanche - Thank you!!!  Enjoy your time with your Sailor and having both babies together!  I hope time slows down for those two days!

    Happy Monday!

Pizanche - glad you had a nice time at PS graduation!  BZ to your son on his graduation with honors!  Enjoy having both your kids home - what a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration this will be ;-D

I went to a bridal show with my youngest's fiancee and her mom this weekend.  Fun to start the planning for them....but thankfully I don't have to do a whole lot of it lol!

  • MomofJoseph

B'sNukeMoM - another benefit of being a boy mom!  (But so cool you got to join your son's fiancee and her mom on that adventure!)

  • Pizanche

B'sNukeMoM - Thank you!!! And sounds like you had fun.

MomofJoseph - Thank you - but we all know that time goes by very fast when the sailor and others are home.

MomofJoseph - definitely a benefit of being a boy mom!  With this wedding she knows what she wants....has had all her ideas for a long time.  When B&C got married I was very involved.  C didn't really have anyone to help her so I sort of got nominated for the job.  I actually enjoyed it but it was a lot of work lol!

  • CSW

And so, after six years he's home and almost separated. Thank you to all the Moms who helped keep my hopes up and my faith strong during those very quiet times.   I'll most definitely hang around for a bit, especially if I can help provide some insight in others who are close to separation.

Thank GOD for all you Ladies and our sailors!

  • joe-mom

CSW - Congratulations on having your son home! Prayers for him as he begins the next chapter of his life.

  • CSW

     Joe-Mom-

It was a fun ride most of the time and my sailor really had some life experiences that have changed him in a GREAT way. He enjoyed his boat and Hawaii and said he was glad he enlisted.

Prayers to all of the sailors still standing active watch and the families  behind them.

  • joe-mom

CSW - What a great experience for him! Mine is just getting started at "A" school this week. He's very excited... just hope he's ready for the challenge!

  • CSW

    Joe-Mom

Thanks for the kind words.  It's a challenging but rewarding journey. The Navy is pretty good at selecting those who will succeed and he made it this far!  All the best to you and your sailor!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

CSW - wishing your son all the best in his next adventure!  Thank him for his service! Please keep us posted on what he ends up doing.

And please don't delete your profile!  If you do everything you've ever posted will disappear!

  • Pizanche

CSW congrats!!! Exciting new chapters coming up! Enjoy

  • Chipmunk

I so appreciate those who replied to Lancertrackmom - I am home after driving a long time and a week with the new grandbaby, & granddaughter and I am beat. I will have to catch up in a few days!

Question for the more seasoned Nuke moms out there: What is the cell phone policy for sailors brand new to Goose Creek? My son has been there a week now (currently in Indoc, I'm guessing). We've tried to contact him a couple of times, to no avail. And he missed his sister's birthday, which is out of character. We're assuming he doesn't have access to his phone yet, though we were under the impression that they were allowed phone privileges on the weekends. Not a big deal - just curious about this new-to-us process! Thanks all!

  • Chipmunk

Joe-mom and any other new moms. Be sure to read my son's A school schedule discussion above. Q's Momma pretty much nailed it.

Joe-mom - I would suggest contacting the ombudsman - and also texting your son or send an email. If he is still INDOC, you may also use this address to mail a letter to him. The letters are delivered to their classes. Packages are held for them.

    NNPTC OMBUDSMAN CONTACT INFO:

    (843) 296-9426

This is posted above as well if you lose it.

Saturday mornings were the best times for conversations with my son. I will get the address and post in a minute.

  • joe-mom

Q's Momma and Chipmunk - Thank you both very much for the feedback! I'm sure he's still adjusting to the schedule, roommate, and all the things. Nice to have a mailing address now!

  • JNMnavymomOH

My son heard stories from others about not getting packages or mail and things missing.  So he went and paid for a post mail box at the mini NEX...or the shop next to it.  It was reasonably priced he said and he can extend the rental length.

  • Chipmunk

joe-mom - Once he classes up, his address will change, so just text him and remind him the same as Q's Momma, just a thumbs up, a Good night. Something.

And know that their chiefs and instructors do remind them to reach out to home and let Momma know they are okay, because the command does not like to hear from upset Mommas!!

JNMnavymomOH - I did not realize they had PO boxes available. I don't recall if it was you, or someone else that had asked about mailboxes, but that is good to know.

  • 99maui

Hello, I don't think I've posted anything on this blog since I joined...but I appreciate all of the information! My son is in Nuke School, about half way thru Power School. "A school" was tough, and I didn't hear from him often but he tried to check in once a week with an update on how he did on a test. Graduation was nice and we are so glad we went (we are in California).  Power School seems much better for him, he seems less stressed and overall more confident. I'm not sure if that is a common feeling with most, but it's been a better experience as compared to A School.  Regarding mail...that was a bit of a nightmare for us. He didn't have a problem receiving mail in boot camp but at Goose Creek it's "hit and miss"....especially if you send a package. He recently got a p.o. box at the local NEX and it is much better (and fairly inexpensive). I hope this info may help someone. Overall Nuke School has been "fine"....it's hard...high expectations...but overall I feel he is supported and the experience is positive. A lot of "growing up" is going on, that's for sure.

  • Northwoodsmom

You gals are lucky, when my son was there he was on a waiting list to get a P.O. box. He did finally get one but it took a while. I am happy all your Sailors are doing well.

Yes, if your Sailor has a chance to come home please talk to them into taking that leave. My big hearted boy stayed so others could get to come home. That was 3 years ago and we are still waiting for the chance of a Christmas reunion. Hopeful for this year but I hate getting my hopes up just to be disappointed in the end.

  • MomofJoseph

99maui, I wonder if my son and yours are in the same class at Power School?  I'd say my son is a little over halfway through.  Graduating in March 2023.
