I ordered a sheet set and mattress topper for my daughters rack and they keep giving me the run around as to when it will ship. I used fleetsheets.com. I used them in the past for my son and know they have a good product. It’s been 7 weeks since I ordered and I really want this for her. Does anyone know of another reputable site I can order from, so I can just cancel with them and reorder?
NickSydmom - sorry to hear you're having issues with your order. I know that fleet sheets is the most recommended and I don't know of any others. Maybe someone else will chime in with another option.
NickSydmom - I am glad that JayDee659 was able to help you out. I asked my sailor once if he wanted me to order him special sheets and he said no, so I never ordered any.
I decided to work from the comfort of my sofa today - since we are supposedly having a "winter storm". I have to laugh, in our area, any prediction of possible snow and now that schools are set up to work online, everything closes!! I don't have my normal natural sunshine to work from, so I figured if I was using electricity, I would just enjoy my sofa.
I hope all of our sailors are doing well in their studies. If anyone is planning on traveling to GC, be sure to check out the discussions on places to visit.
Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page. Lots of good info there. Dani_NukeMom - I posted a message on the BC page, but wanted to welcome you here, too! My son has finished A School and is currently in Power School. Most of the moms here have WAY more experience than me and they are amazing! <3
B'sNukeMom - Are you feeling a little sideways today!! :-)
MomofJoseph - You have a lot to offer though. You are in the thick of it, in the middle of the Pipeline and can glean firsthand information!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much everyone! Hopefully I’ll have a few weeks at least before BC starts for him, so I can educate myself and prepare. But I’ll know more soon. Again, so happy I found this group and grateful for the support, resources, and help you all provide!!
Dani_NukeMom - You are welcome! Here is a discussion that my sailor helped me put together when he started A school. Some things may have changed, especially post-COVID, but it can still give both of you an idea of what to expect. I added to the discussion as he progressed.
NickSydmom- I had a similar issue a couple of years ago. I wanted them for a Christmas present and I guess lots of people do and they get slowed down. I canceled the order online and a week later they showed up. I never got the refund the cancelation said I would but since I also go the stuff it did not matter.
Did you order with monograms? That will definitely slow it down I was told at the time.
Not sure what to tell you now. You might try canceling and then reorder in a week or two if timing is not an issues. My sailor loves the topper especially when at sea.
Anyone else going to power school graduation on March 17? My son is graduating on the officer side that day. Last time I was in Charleston he was graduating power school on the enlisted side. That feels like a long time ago. I'm eager to go back and experience another NNPTC ceremony!
PacNWmom, congratulations to your son. I enjoyed Goose Creek and Charleston as well, so happy I got the opportunity to visit twice. Enjoy your trip and time with your Sailor.
mamabearto3 - I don't know the Prototype schedule, but I wanted to say congratulations to your sailor as he is finishing up with all of his qualifications. Has your son been able to give you any information?
We have been trying to ask, but he is so busy, he worked 16 hours shifts last week. If anyone has info, please let me know. Buying plane tickets is so expensive right now. Thak you!
I just found this on the NPTU Charleston | Goose Creek SC | Facebook dated Jan 19th The graduation for Class 2204 will now take place on Thursday, March 23rd. Please update your calendars accordingly.
I believe this is Prototype graduation, but I am not for certain. Sorry, I have just been trying to Google search.
Mamabear - Chipmonk is correct. according to NPTU site: The graduation for Class 2204 will now take place on Thursday, March 23rd. Please update your calendars accordingly. This was posted on 1/19/2023. This is the 2nd time this has been updated. Book so you can cancel if need be.
Just a heads up - I'm going to have limited computer access tomorrow through Sunday. My dad passed away on the 18th and I'm heading to Washington to help out with some of his things. Hold down the fort please....
A heads-up message for any of our new members that have joined. After a post in another group, it occurred to me to mention this. If your loved one does not have their driver's license before they head to BC, for some rates, they might be okay, but not for Nukes.
Currently, all Nukes have to have off base housing once they go to Prototype and they need a vehicle to transport themselves. There have been some who hitch rides, and I think someone even mentioned a sailor who rode their bike, but the trip to their training area for Prototype from housing options is no small distance. I have been there.
Not only is a car almost essential during Prototype, but it can be at certain bases, which are very large and public transportation is minimal. Just something to keep in mind.
mamabearto3 - Good question!! Anyone recently been to Prototype Graduation?
My son's graduation was prior to COVID and they had two separate graduations on the USS Yorktown to accommodate everyone. I do not recall their being any attendance restrictions at that time. Everyone who was there with their sailor, just signed in at the registration desk I think, and we were able to tour the ship afterwards.
I will say that if they are still doing two graduations and you are there for the 2nd one, you might want to plan on taking some snack foods with you, so that if you do not feel like you can take time to go back towards the gift shop and the snack bar (that is not located on the ship), you have something to tie you over.
@Chipmunk Thank you! We talked to my son yesterday, he didn't even know the date he was graduating. Lol! As usual I am left to figure information out on my own. I will take any info I can get.
mamabearto3 - Your sailor is working really hard to finish and qualify.
So, this is what I can recall from our graduation day at Prototype. Aside from it being a drizzly wet day and I was so afraid my son's cover (hat) was going to blow off as we crossed the plank ramp to the ship, it was a good day.
My son had said he would be given a paper parking pass ticket for the car, which I think he did have, but he was riding with us and was in his dress whites. His graduation was on Good Friday in April that year. When we got to the parking entrance we were just ushered on in as I recall and told where to park since he was with us. Then we went to the ticket counter and spoke to them, I don't recall if they gave us an actual ticket there or just told us to proceed.
At the entrance to the ship (there is a long walking ramp, and if you do need assistance, they have carts which can drive you to the metal steps that go up to the ship entrance. That was what was slippery.) they had someone set up to take pictures of you with your sailor going on the ship. We had our picture taken but I do not think we bought any afterwards.
As I said before, once on the ship, they have a registration desk, and we went there to ask for further directions. My son was in the 2nd ceremony of the day. I believe they were at 0900 and 1100. We were directed to another area for the sailors to line up and get in their seating order. And then we stood around and waited with them until we were directed to the seating for the ceremony.
Some of the sailors had their orders that day and they were leaving. Others like my son still had a week or so as I recall before they left. One of our members whose son followed mine was actually in GC for about a month or so before he had his orders. It is all variable depending on the sailor and where they are headed.
I do encourage your sailors to take their travel time and vacation time that they have if at all possible.
More about after Prototype - so my sailor was in GC for about a week after graduation. He had been rooming with two other men in an apartment. I am thankful for the situation and the set up that they had, however, there were still some circumstances that had to be dealt with. The three young men shared different responsibilities with the rent and utilities. My son had taken out the electricity in his name and so when one of his roommates did not have his orders yet, he had to stay in the apartment, and I think kept paying my son until he left, and my son was able to get the electricity turned off.
There are many scenarios with prototype housing, and no one has posted a lot for some time, but the pros / cons and struggles have been there. I hope all goes well for your sailor mamabearto3. - Getting their qualifications done is the top priority at the moment.
Chipmunk Thank you for the information! My son has a month before he heads out to Norfolk Virginia. I am hoping he may come home for a week, fingers crossed. He has been assigned his ship. I am thankful that he is not going Sub. Next 4 years hopefully goes quickly, unless he re-ups again.
Good morning Ladies, I know a lot of the seasoned Moms in this group are not on the "Beyond group" so I wanted to update you on my son. Many of you were a encouragement to me while my son was at Nuke school and then while he was rerated out of the program.
He graduated Aviation Electronic Technician School in Lemoore, California this past week. It has been a long journey with many turns but he has found his nitch in the Navy. When he calls he is like a kid in a candy store, so excited about what he is doing. He is so happy and my heart is at peace for him. Even though he battled through months of Power School and he didn't make it through to the end , the lessons and the experiences he took with him shaped his character. He is grateful to his commanders and the Navy for not giving up on him, it brought about a maturity that will serve him well through his career.
For any newer Moms who's kid is struggling, don't give up. Keep supporting them. Encourage them to continue fighting through. The farther they get in the program even if they do not make it through will determine their rate and the job they can put in for.Their determination and dedication are great factors seen by their commanders.
I wish all your son's and daughter the best in this intense difficult program and will continue to follow in PRAYERS. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need help or just a listening year. God Bless you!
Northwoodsmom - Congratulations to your sailor! That's fantastic news, and it's great to hear how excited he is about his rate. I hope you enjoy this time with him and that it will carry you through until his next visit.
Thanks to you, Chipmunk and all the other ladies in this group who are so encouraging and full of great info for a semi-newbie like me. I have to ask: Is it normal to not hear from your sailor very often while they're in Nuke A school? I had a short text conversation with him two weeks ago, but we haven't spoken on the phone for a month. I know they're super-busy, but I also know he's had time on weekends to go into Charleston with friends. I get it - he's away from home for the first time and this is kind of the equivalent of his freshman year in college. But a month??? Haven’t posted in months. My son has been back in Bremerton for over a year now. The last 2 years were difficult for him in so many ways, but he has pushed through and received Sailor of the Year for his boat on Friday. So proud of him!
Tulip, that is outstanding, I am happy for you both. I heard the first two years are tough no matter your rate. They are overworked, overtired and trying to get qualifications done. Your son show himself worthy by his perseverance and character. Good job Mom for raising this remarkable young man!
