I hate weekends, one of my boys came home at 6 am this morning. The same boy that had rolled his truck last night. I don't know if my heart can take much more.
Ok, I have a question about the black wallet they need, I got a wallet, it is thin, but only one fold, does it need to be 3 fold?? does anyone know for sure??
Been reading all these comments and am kind of dealing with similar issues...Emmy is the one leaving for Boot Camp in 5 weeks and now her twin thinks "nobody loves her and we treat her like nothing " I don't know what to say or do...its never right.I want to give Em the attention she deserves since she will be gone but how without Beth getting upset?!?!
Emmysmom...I know how you feel. I am a twin Mom with only one son going in and when I asked the one who wasn't going in what he thought of his brother, he was rigid and just said "My brother does what he wants." It made me sad. I think he's getting a little more used to the idea of his brother going in but he always feels like his brother gets more attention. It's hard to try to balance it out and make both of them feel important without making one of them feel left out at one time or another.
BTW...CO-twin just started a new twins group for Moms who have twins with either one or both going in. You should join us...here is the link: Twins & Multiples in the Navy
Cathymg...my son got a single fold wallet but it has velcro. I don't think it really matters exactly, but I would think that a single fold would be more slim than a tri-fold.
NausetMom, here is what I can tell you about my son's paperwork and it will be in order. 1st page is his rate.(job) 2nd page is his GETREC-In Dep . It has ALL of his personal info, his rate Meps info, Education and Test Scores.Medical,Waivers and Incentives. 3rd page is the Enlistment Guarantees. It has ALL important info on that page( time to be served and Rate) .4th page is Agreement to Extend Enlistment ( not everyone will have this). He has an extra form called The Request for Evaluation of Education Credentials and Foreign Education. Not all Depper's will have this form. Please go over your son/daughter's paperwork. Of course that is IF they let you : )
Thanks Dorethea, my son's seems to be a little different than yours. He has no page with test scores, or rate of Meps info, etc. I hope he is not missing something that is important. I know he gets a packet of paper work handed to him the day he leaves. He only enlisted the on the 18th of June and leaves the 12th of August. I can only hope he asks his recruiter on Monday.
NausetMom, if you live close by , I would pop in the Recruiter's Station with your son . It is no different then buying a house or taking out a loan. There is a lot of paperwork and young people may not know what to look for. I was there when my son enlisted, it was sign here, here , here and here. Hold on a minute !!!!! He is going to read and ask questions first. He did !!!!! Thank goodness I was there for that ride. He is happy about where he is going, I am happy he is looking ahead and not just at tomorrow. 18 days and counting.
Dorothea, No we live about 6/7 hrs away from his recruiter, so I am not able to go. I did go over your comments, so he would have something to think about as he drives to meet with the recruiter tomorrow. I know he said that he carefully looked over every paper before he signed. I hope he did not miss anything.
nausetMom. Perhaps your son is undesignated? My son has someone in his DEP group who is. My son has all the paperwork that Dorthea spoke of. I'm told that his contract is for his reserve time while in DEPS and will sign a new one before he ships out at the end of November. I hope that's the case because he is supposed to go in as an E3 with his college credits and his current contract says E1 but also says reserve. Definitely make a phone call at least to ask questions!!
Hi armymomnavyson, that was one of the problems I was speaking of. The recruiter did not change his Rank after the paperwork was submitted. Yes, please make sure he gets that done. It will make a big difference.
My son just finished his junior year at UCLA. He told me he will go in as and E-1 and after BC will be an E-3. Also, in reserves as he needs to finish college. It doesn't matter in BC, as they all are E-1, right? Until they graduate.
From what my son was told the first time he was at MEPS is that he will sign a new contract when he gets to MEPS before he ships to BC. That contract should say he is an E3. They are all Sailor recruits in BC. Nobody has told him he has to finish college (although I continue to tell him it's silly not to). I've also told him to talk to his recruiter and remind him that he will walk away if he's not going in as an E3. I know his current contract specifically states he is in the Navy reserves.
The recruits who earned E-2 or E-3 through various means earn their "rate marks" (two stripes for an E-2, three stripes for an E-3) immediately after completing Battlestations 21, which is their final exam, and the capping ceremony - their official graduation ceremony.
However, since they wear the NWU on a daily basis, which doesn't show rate for E-3 and below, they don't actually wear their rate until PIR (formal graduation ceremony).
There are a number of ways recruits can earn E-2 or E-3:
*acceptance to certain training programs, including the nuclear power program (they used to get E-4)
*college credits
*three years of NJROTC
*Eagle Scout
*Gold Award Girl Scout
*meritorious promotion awarded by RDCs, usually through leadership during boot camp
*passing their initial PFT and DEP knowledge exams
SKANAVYMOM, that is pretty much the same here. Only difference is my son leaves on the 31st. His recruiter had his school fill out paperwork and his rate was changed. However it was changed on a few papers not all. That has now been corrected : ) yay
Dorothea- my son's contract says reserves but also states he will do 4 active. It seems this is so his DEP time is counted toward his reserve time (just guessing though!). He didn't have his college transcripts when he first went to MEPS so they couldn't put him down as E3. The woman at MEPS told him it would be on the new contract he signs when he goes back to MEPS before BC. I hope they get it right because he'll walk without the E3. I told him he should tell his recruiter to make sure its done right but he said its too early. He'll do it in October. Kids!!!!
I agree Kids : ) I am dreading the 31st. My son left for the beach for a week. He "THINKS" he is getting me ready for his departure. I " KNOW " I am upset : (
armymomnavyson2 - your son's contract is very similar to my sons. His says reserves but it also states he will do 4 active and 4 years inactive. He questioned the recruiter about it. Also my son had to provide his college transcripts before he signed.
For some reason it shows the latest activity on this group to be minutes or hours ago and then when I click on it and come here I just see old posts???? From a week ago or so. Anyone know why?
I read somwhere that the "latest activity" is any comment anyone posts or anyone signing in and reading the other comments. It does not necessarly mean "last comment" posted.
20 days left.. I'm trying not to think about it . Will be nice to see him for a little bit st Louis at the cardinals game. I think I'm I'm denial about him leaving of feels like a dream... going to be a rough 20 days. Hoping they go slow.
heymomlpn. Since my son graduated in may. I haven't seen him as much as i have wanted to. these last 20 days i'm going to try my best to spend a little extra time with him here and there. This sunday we are all going to a springfield mo cardinals game together, part of a thing we are doing for my work. So that will be fun to spend time with him there. This past sunday we went on a float trip so that was nice. i still get choked up when i think about him leaving. but i'm extremly proud of him and he seems to be ready. I keep asking him and he says "yes mom i'm ready" he even sounds excited. which is good. :-) yes maybe we can meet at the picnic in st louis.. that would be awesome
We went through MEPS a couple of weeks ago. And we were offered 1 time use gate passes to sit with our son until he left. We chose to say goodbye at MEPS because his group got an early flight and would only be there a short time. Also I couldn't handle looking at him, he was being so strong and I felt like I was gonna burst into tears at any second.. I didn't want him to see me upset.. Def go to the "swearing in" they will let you know there.. We found that the recruiters didn't know everything.. Lol
Heymomlpn I am about 15 mins away from Joplin missouri. Time has definetly got here fast. We are having his going away party Aug 10th. Then I will drop him off at recruiters Tues Aug 13th he will go to MEPS in KC the. Bead to St Louis for the festivities there aug 15th. I'm trying to prepare myself but its so hard. I'm so extremely proud of him but not ready for him to leave me..
My son did well on the AVSAB, he turned in his medical records last month but he has not received a call yet. Is this typical? He is a little anxious so I'd like to be encouraging...
well my son leaves first thing in the morning for MEPS at Kansas City Mo. Then they will take him by greyhound to St louis where he will met the others that were chosen for the Cardinal Company. The good thing is I will be able to text and call him and then see him at the St louis game on thursday so that makes it a little easier for me. But seeing him actually leave tomorrow will be a little rough for me. I wrote him a 3 page letter this morning and cried as I wrote every word. I still can't believe he is leaving. I have already warned my co-workers that I don't know how I will look or how I will be emotionally tomorrow after I drop him off at the recruiters office. I'm one proud momma, but boy is this going to be an emotional roller coaster for me the next few months.
Codysmom & Heymomlpn, My son left this morning at 7:30 to head to KC, I got word that they were already headed to St. Louis this afternoon. Pretty neat that our boys will be together threw out all of bootcamp. I had a very rough time after I dropped him off, But just knowing that he is in good spirits and getting to know the others that are coming from KC on the bus made me feel a lot better. Hope to maybe meet some of you on Thursday.
Hi all! Tomorrow we are dropping our son off at the recruiters office for 11am. First we are going to breakfast. Anyone else whos son/ daughter who is leaving for bootcamp on the 15th let me know. It will be great to talk. He is leaving from NY!
My son went to MEPS today with the recruiter. We actually spent most of the day together, unexpectedly. He had to report at 11:00, but his driver had to do PT with some other recruits, so we went to lunch, came back and hung out at the office and talked with some other recruits. Finally they left about 2:40 for Sacramento. My husband and I will be there in the morning for his swearing in ceremony and watch him leave. I'm feeling good, but it is really strange to think he will not be here for a long time. Even setting the table tonight was weird. My thoughts are with all of you with that August ship date.
Did anyone have a sailor swear in today at Columbus Meps and leave for GL BC today? would like to connect with a couple of the families that were there seeing them off this afternoon..
Your feelings are absolutely normal Karinakk63. I felt the same way you did when my son went to MEPS for the first time. Even though I knew he was a healthy kid, I was so worried they would find something I never knew about. I couldn't think straight all day long at work that day until my son called me and told me he was "in". Just put your trust in the Lord and if this is the path that is right for your daughter, it will happen.
Morning all! My Son leaves Oct 2. I'm already having a hard time. Trying to make every moment a great one. (When I can get him from the Girlfriend:) ). I'm am having some anxiety making sure I do all I can to prepare us.... And him mostly. Sounds like I am not alone. I love this site it will help sooo much. With supporting each other!'
