Looks like no one has been in this group for awhile. Are there any grandmas from Texas out there? My grandson leaves for boot camp on July 26th and I am still struggling with the whole thing! He has lived with me for the past year and is only 18 years old so of course I worry about him!

Retired Army Spouse -- "active duty" Navy Gramma.
I need to learn Navy "talk" so I can understand my grandchildren. :)

I vividly remember listening to my first Army sm talking to another Army sm and not having a clue what they were talking about. I feel that way now with the grandchildren.

Anything you can help me with would be appreciated. Is there a Blog about this?

My granddaughter graduates June 28, then it's off to Pensacola for A-School.

    Hi 'Grandmas'.

Doesn't look like there's too much activity in this group?  My sailor graduated Great Lakes May 24 2013. He lived with me from age 11 - 19. He's now 20 and in Pensacola awaiting A school. I've learned more from Navy4moms about Navy stuff than I've found out from him so far. Will try to visit him and get his car to him as he gets into Phase II or III. I'm in Fort Myers.. a mere 10 hour drive.

Geema3 I too have a grandson 20. He is in Pensacola now. What rate is your grandson?
  • geema3

E3. He was an Eagle Scout. After BC, he got that rate, He just got there
May 25th. He says a couple months before his AE school. How about yours?

  • Momo1968

He is an AD stilll on hold. He went to Pensacola on 4/20. They do keep them busy I must say.

Has anyone heard from their recruit from Ship 11, Division 041 as to whether they have completed BS and have received their Navy cap?  I'm not sure how these things work and my grandson's stepmother and father are not including my daughter (who lives with me) in any new information. Thank you!

  • lbtgmom

To GMA of a SR, my Grandson graduated from basic training on the 22nd of November. I have already seen a big difference in him. This was the first Thanksgiving away from home and the first Christmas. We miss him around here terribly but am so proud of him at the same time. I am so thankful for finding this site and to the new members, know you are not alone in this adventure!
  • GrannyFranny51

Thank you for adding me!! My Grandson just graduated Nov 22 I have not seen him yet and only talked very briefly to him once but am so excited to see the changes I believe this is going to bring him. A sense of purpose for one. I am wondering what I can get him for Christmas. He will be home for Christmas and I want to give him something that means something and is allowed He is still in Great Lakes and has yet to start his school. He said he loves it.

Hi, I'm a grandmother & my grandson is my pride & joy. He has always been there for me since his grandfather passed away last year. He told me "papa was my best friend" and I will make him proud of me.
  • Harleygigi

My ( soon to be) sailor man will graduate 1/17/2014.
  • Proud Grandma

Hi i have a grandson stationed in Florida but will be moved to Norfolk, Va the end of January. He will be on the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier.

  • GrandmaBarB

Harleygigi.....welcome.  Another Grandma here, with a wonderful grandson on the Truman...who is also my pride and joy....and BOY, do I miss that kid.

These great Mom's have welcomed me with open arms...as they will you, do doubt.  He's my "only"...but the Best, for sure.

  • GrandmaBarB

Proud Grandma...nice to see other Grandmas here.  Geezers are GREAT.

  • Mimi4495

My grandson will graduate January 10th in Great Lakes. He is my only grandchild and it has been so hard. I am so proud of him.
  • Harleygigi

How can any grandma not be proud of their grand babies. As everyone can see I still call him Gigi's baby and you know it doesn't bother him in the least. He has lived most of his life with us and now he thinks it's up to him to make sure Gigi is ok. He's one in a few, all grown up but yet my baby.
  • GrandmaBarB

Harleygigi....I still call mine "my little Munchkin"...and he also tolerates it....ha.  He called MY mother GiGi (for Great Grandma).....oh, how she loved that boy and he....her.

  • lbtgmom

Thank God our Sailor grandson went back yesterday! The northeast got hit with a snowstorm!

  • proud grandma

My grandson also left yesterday.  In fact, while he was waiting for his plane here, the weather in New York City (which is where he was going for his connecting flight) was supposed to be getting hit hard.  However, thankfully, when he got there he said the weather wasn't too bad.  The plane left on time and he had no problems getting back to South Carolina!  Today it's 2 degrees here, so he just missed the really cold weather too! :)

  • Harleygigi

Glad your grandson made it safely.
  • proud grandma

    Thank you!  So am I.

  • GrannyFranny51

Well my grandson is stuck in Phoenix.  He was suppose to fly out this morning.  They not only have flights all over stranded because of the weather but there was a mechanical problem on his plane.  So after we found out he can charge his phone and hang out in the USO at the airport then the airline gave him vouchers for him and his step mom and girlfriend to go stay in a hotel and have something to eat and he will fly out hopefully tomorrow.  He is cutting it close but nothing you can do about that now.  I am so grateful to know he is being taken care of nicely and I had no idea that the USO had such wonderful help at the airport!!  My niece who is married to a carrier Army man told us about it.

  • Harleygigi

I think that is wonderful. Not the delay but how well he being taken care of so well.
  • DylansGrammy

I just lost my whole post..I just wanted to say that I am glad that the USO was taking such good care of him.  And his Mom and girlfriend so they could spend as much time together as possible.

  • GMA of a Sonar Tech

GrannyFranny-that is really heartwarming to hear...Last year my Grandson had a long layover from BootCamp to San Diego and the USO in San Francisco was very nice to him along with others....So now anytime there is a fundraiser for the USO here locally I try to participate...Best of Luck to your Grandson...

  • GrannyFranny51

My Grandson did make it back to base in plenty of time!  He is sure having a lot of adventures in his new life! lol

  • Harleygigi

Really glad to hear that. My grandson will become a sailor on the 17th of January. Have not heard from him since Christmas. I do hope everything is going as planed. Is there anyone else going to be there on the 17th for graduation?
  • CathyM

I was just sent this link, for which I am most grateful. My granddaughter is in Boot Camp, due to graduate on Jan. 24. I had so hoped to be there for her graduation, but it looks like no one in the family will be able to make it. Very sad. She should have someone there to cheer her on.

  • Harleygigi

You can watch it on the internet @ navy.mil.com that day. I know it's not the same
  • CathyM

Thanks, Harleygigi. I checked that link, but couldn't see where the link for the graduation videos was. I have heard that you can buy a DVD of the graduation, but seeing it streaming live would be so much better.

  • Harleygigi

When you go to the web site you have choices so look for the live stream site. Hope this helps.
