Thank You, Ronny! I am really grateful for your advice. My father also served in the Navy before I was born. So, the Navy is close to my heart for more just one reason. I remember when my school would have their program for Veterans on Veterans Day my dad and my uncle would be so proud to stand when the Navy stood. Now my Husband is trying to enlist in the Navy, I could not be more proud. :)
Thank you, Ronny. I appreciate your advice. I am a little new to all of this. My son leaves for boot camp in July. I have a lot to learn before that time.
But we have those things covered. Cam is not newly enlisted, his already been through two tour with the Marines (Navy Corpsmen). I am also a military brat (Army) and my husband served for 28 years....
My son just arrived at Boot Camp on April 9th. I didn't know that the recruits were allowed to phone home while they were in Boot Camp? I guess we are still trying to figure this whole thing out. Do you know how long they have liberty after graduation if they are going into BUDS prep?
Hi Ronny. Thank you so much for the information. My son doesn't leave for boot camp until this summer, so I will be checking this site quite often to see what I should expect to happen. He's applying for the Nuclear Program, so I need to do a little research on that and see what it's all about.
I'm glad you are all here to help and answer any questions.
I sure will ! Same to yours.
She got her shell a couple of weeks ago, I'm so proud of my little girl.
My son was also in Navy SS John C Stennis on his fourth yr he was dishonorably discharged :..(
I'm still a very proud mother.
I'm awfully scared with all the commotion N Korea is causing.
Thank you for the kind welcome. I was especially touched by the wish for my son to have fair winds and following seas. I know it because all of the men in my family have been navy and I served as a nurse for veterans as well as for the navy and part of my training from the airforce. I too wish your sailor fair winds and following seas, and comfort to you and your family on land. Best Wishes and prayers, Amber
Thank you, Recruit man, Ronny. This is a nice program, sounds like. This is new to me. I am trying to get some ladies to leave Cleveland with me for the graduation at Great Lakes on May 31st. Thinking of a carpool. Someone on this site said to connect with ladies at PIR. How would I find them.? Any suggestions? Thank you.... Leslie
Ronny, my son is in BC now. I didn't send phone cards, nor can I find anyone that sells domestic calling cards. Would you please send me some? I'm hoping this is the reason I haven't heard from him.
Hi Ronny, I feel like such an idiot. I accidentally deleted the phone card e-mail you sent to me. Do you by any chance happen to have it in your "sent" folder? I am so sorry, I am truly grateful for the cards but I clearly was not thinking straight. I bid my daughter farewell this morning as she left for bootcamp from Boston MEPS. Her flight was supposed to leave at 2:00 pm, but it was canceled. Now the kids are scheduled to take an 8:00 pm flight. They have been sitting in the airport since noon and used up their meal vouchers before they knew about it. My daughter said that there were some Boston Marathon runners who were scheduled to take the same flight, and she said they looked absolutely traumatized. One lady couldn't stop crying because she just wanted to get home. My heart is breaking on so many levels...
Thank you for Welcoming me. My son will be leaving Oct. 1st for boot camp, he will be a logistics specialist. We are so proud that at 23 he has made this decision to do something more for his life. His finace' also enlisted she leaves May 1st for BC and will be in the nuclear program. I'm sure i will have lots of questions coming soon. Thank you again
Hi received call this morning so happy to talk with him talked about 30minutes. He has started to receive letters and should be able to write Sunday. He is doing airr but is now talking about changing his rate, he said 4guys already went home. I'm wondering if he now thinks its too hard or maybe something they go through in the first few weeks, he's only been gone 2weeks. Any advice. Thank you so much
Thank u,I appreciate all who reply, because most of the time I don't know what I'm doing w ith this post & how to do things on here, most luck but @56 this is.my first year on the internet,so bear with me
Hi Ronny, my name is Libbie. My son is leaving for Pensacola on May 24th for aviation training. My son was in San Diego last summer with the pilots and he loved it. I'm so excited for him, but also so nervous. Thanks for getting in touch with me. I would love to continue communications with you and other moms.
Hi, Ronny my name is Flerida. My son left for his bootcamp training April 17, 2013. Thank you for your warm welcome. This site is helping me overcome my feeling of emptyness. I am so happy and proud of him. This site is truly a good support system.
Hi Ronny thanks for the welcome aboard. My son is currently in San Diego as well awaiting orders. We are new to Military life and appreciate the support. swimmergal
Thanks Ronnie for welcoming me, yes my daughter left April 16, but with bad weather didn't arrive til 18th. So she's a week in bootcamp. We are really close, so I miss the dickens out of her. Awaiting my first letter, can't wait. Her grandpa was in the Navy. I know she will come out a new person and a stronger person. Hoping to keep in touch, thanks again.
Thank you Roonie! My significant other left back in March and have a PIR date of May 3rd. I am a pretty late entry to this site but found it just in time to get some good questions answered just reading. I look foward to seeing how this experience is going to empower my new sailor and my life. Thank you again.
Thank you for the hello and welcome. My son left for Great Lakes on Tuesday and it was the most emotional and proudest day in my life. I'm not sure what to expect over the next few months, so this site will be very helpful.
I will check it all out.. No questions yet, except I wish I could plan for graduation sooner. I assume it is in early August, since he leave June 4. This is all new to me and was a surprise.
My SR(husband) Left for BC on 4/23 I am very new to all of this!I can't wait for everything to start rolling... I just want to see him again. We have been together almost 4 years and never been apart so this is so very hard!I cant wait to get the Form letter so I can start sending him letters!
My son leaves for basic in August. It's nice to have the information about the cards well ahead of time. I appreciate any insight or information you can share.
Hi Ronny My grandson Robert just left on the 24th of April for boot camp in Great Lake. Although i am happy that he is starting his Navy career i still miss not knowing how he is doing. Thank for letting me know about the prepaid card that is a wonderful idea so that they can call their families.
Hey Ronnie, thanks for the comment. My son graduates high school next month and will be leaving for bootcamp soon after. I really don't know what to expect so joined this site to hopefully get some support from people who know what i am going through. I feel a lot of mixed emotions about it but I am very proud. I am not surprised he decided to join, he is very loyal and protective of those he loves and he loves his country.
Hi Ronnie, my daughter will graduate on the 10th of May. Her last letter was very hopeful. It looks like things are getting easier. We haven't received a phone call for about 3 weeks, so we hope to get one soon. This has been an interesting experience so far. Shannon shipped out only 8 weeks after signing so it's been a roller coaster of emotions for everyone. We are very proud of her and can't wait till graduation.
Hi Ronny, My granddaughter graduates early June. I think she will also be trained as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. So far she's doing well...looking forward to graduating from BC.
Thank you for the warm welcome Ronny. My son has been gone almost 2 weeks & I miss him so much. However, I know this is a wonderful opportunity for him to serve our Country. He called yesterday & sounded positive & upbeat. It's great to know you have so much knowledge and are willing to help us newbies.
Ronny- thank you for your note. I am still getting used to this web site, finding my way around. My son graduated from high school last year and is currently in college. For most of his life he has been very military oriented- though his focus has mainly been Army. Just recently he said he may go Navy. My dad and brother were both Navy so I am familiar. I have always thought he would go Army as he has cousins there, and I know quite a lot of that branch. So As I learn a new Navy language and what is involved there I will certainly have questions. I do also have a very good friend who just got out of the Navy. Again thanks for the welcome. Oh my real name is Marianne- Mern is a nickname either one is fine by me.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am actually married to my sailor and his PIR is coming up on 5-17-13. He was told that i could move onto base with him where he will begin his A school in South Carolina.
I do have one question I can't help but wonder about... and that is moving onto base. How does this process work and what can i expect? I'd appreciate any and all input.
Thank you; This is a wonderful thing to know. I am so worried and he has not left yet. He starts boot camp in Nov. This is just a jump start for me, so that I can get use to the new change. I thank you for the information and look forward to chatting with you.
Thank you Ronny :) Michael's recruiter sent me a brochure on Navy for Mom's early on, this is where I looked when I had a question. Found the link to the RTC home page here... all is this is new to me, lol, just wanted to say thank you for the welcome :)
Hi Ronny I have a question I understand that my grandson if everything goes well will gradulate in 9 Friday, can you tell me if my grandson arrived on April 24 would the friday after that day be considered the 1st Friday and we can start counting from there.
Thank you for the well wishes, Ronny. I told my son - he says thank you as well. Your web site is very helpful. What great information! Tonight at DEP my son's recruiter approached him and asked him if he would be interested in changing jobs from aviator handler to special warfare aviation rescue swimmer. (I may not have said that the correct way.) So....he's thinking about it but is concerned about the swimming time requirement. The rest of the physical requirements he feels pretty confident about. And he's thinking about the danger involved. Any thoughts?
Thank You Ronny, I was just wondering if the bootcamp is 9 weeks, then what would cause the bootcamp to go 8 weeks or even longer than 9 weeks. Does it depend on the job that they are going to do.
Ronny thanks for making yourself available for questions, Can you tell me if when SR graduates do they have to return to their ships everynight until they go to their assigns schools or are they allow to stay (Hotel) with the families.
Thank You for that positive comment I need that. My daughter in now in boot camp, I always been so supported and proud of her, but when she left It left an empty feeling inside. after joining Navy for Mons and reading how other felt when there child help me a lot once again thanks for comment.
I just got a letter from my son saying he got asmode (setback) and wont graduate on May 10th as scheduled. He wont be graduating until May 31st now. He no longer gets to have any leadership position or carry the flag. I am devastated. I dont even know if I can change my tickets... I am so upset but dont even know how this site works to ask advice.
Thanks for the welcome, Recruit Man - Ronny. My daughter is 3rd out of 4 generations of Navy. I served in the Navy and then in the Army, but much has changed since I served. Every generation except her granparents were Navy and her great-granfathers both served in WWII. I believe the Navy is a great place for my daughter to grow and discover her moxy. She has always done much better in a structured environment with a firm hand at her back. She has great dedication, loyalty, and sticktoitiveness which is a tremendous combination for success in any branch of the military. My biggest concern is for her self-esteem and self-worth. She is a bit emotionally delicate. But, the biggest hurdle was graduating from boot camp, which she did on April 26th. She is now in P-cola, FL for the next 9-12 months and hopefully will do C school there also since Florida is home. Thanks again for the welcome to the group. Look forward to great discussions on the forums!
Thanks for the welcome. My dad was in the Navy right out of high school in the 50"s but haven't had any other military since. I'm really proud of my daughter. She has been accepted to the nuclear propulsion program - surface track. I want to do something for her while she is at OCS, but have no idea what is allowed. Can the sailors receive mail or packages? What would you suggest? She leaves June 1.

Troy has turn in to a wonderful young man but I know the Navy will make him a better and stronger man. As I said I'm proud of him, he has always looked to his future and wants to do something to better him self. He does not leave for boot camp until Dec. 10, so I will have the summer with him. It's will be great to connect with other parents that will be dealing with empty nest syndrome as well.
