Thank you very much for the welcome.  I was here previously quite a while ago but I guess my account got bumped.  Son is finishing up in San Diego and most likely being sent to Jacksonville for final training before being deployed.

Hello and thank you for yoru welcome.  My son is currently in the DEP.  I do have a couple of questions.  He was put in DEP about a month ago and his report date is in Jan 2014.  Is this pretty typical?  Also, is there anything he can do to try and get that date moved up?  And can he ask to see what other career paths might have a sooner opening?  Thanks!

Thank you Ronny. I appreciate the support.  I will check out your site.  Thank you for the information.

Thank you for the welcome...My son will leave for boot camp July 8th. Has been in DEP since October, graduates from high school on May 26 th, turns 18 on the 11 th of June and is chopping at the bit to "get started" wants to go earlier. I just discovered this page as well as RTC website and am overwhelmed with al we don't know! I feel like I don't even know what I don't know!

thank you for the welcome. It is so good to be "here" and be welcomed so soon.

Our daughter is FIRST generation Navy! We couldn't be more proud. She is from Washington, the state, and since Im not sure if Im supposed to say where she is now, i'll wait for later. But she is far away from us...I am so thankful for Skype!

Again, thank you for the welcome. Now I need to learn how to navigate through this site, after I read the recommended reading to be on this site.

Ahoy and blessings to you and your Sailor, Debbie S.

Thanks so much for your welcome.  That was really kind of you.  Right now we are in the discussion stage with the recruiter.  My son has his heart set on joining the Navy.  We just need to get together with the recruiter a few more times and wait for June to arrive before Jonathan can sign up for the DEP program since he is only a Junior in high school.  I've enjoyed searching the forums for info and answers to questions about joining up.

I was in NJROTC in high school so most of my questions aren't really about Navy life or boot camp because I've experienced quite a bit of it in the 4 years I had in high school.  I wish I would've joined the Navy, but can't go back now.  LOL  Most of my questions are making sure my son gets the best he can out of the military especially with his academic achievements so far.  The recruiter mentioned the Nuke Field and told us some about ROTC and the STA-21 program.  It seems fascinating but I'm still concerned it's the right path for him.

How cool that your son is in San Diego and flying helicopters. I've been to San Diego quite a few times as that is where we would go to "mini bootcamp" when I was in high school.  LOVE the weather there and it's a beautiful place!

Thanks again for your welcoming and I want to thank everyone who contributes to this site to help moms feel more comfortable with the decisions their kids are making and getting through all this new territory.

Thank You for the welcome, this is a great website I am learning so much and many of my fears have been eased. Both of my sons entered the navy and left for boot camp one week apart, well the first one left this week the second leaves next week. one will be in a sub the other on an aircraft carrier. Thank You again for your welcome

  • Troy's Mom

Thank you so much. I'm going to make the most of our time together, I think he is think the same thing. He has been hanging with Mom more then normal (since it isn't real cool to hang with mom..lol) it has been great.

Hi Ronny-thanks for reaching out. Im a little slow to this- my son entered the Navy  Oct 2009 and is a corpsman. He was in Cuba for 18 months and now is on the USS Ft McHenry stationed out of Battle Creek VA. Am hoping to keep up with whats going on in Navy life as I don't get to hear from him much. I live in SW Florida and am hoping to find a group of other Moms in my area.

Happy Mothers to all the Navy Moms!

Hi Ronny.  Thanks so much!  What a great welcome.  My son leaves for boot on June 10th.  He has signed on to be an Aviation Rescue Swimmer.  Looking forward to future posts!  Take care!

  • nahuatl

    Hello Ronny,

Thanks so much for the welcome and for the info.  My son is currently at boot camp and his PIR is June 14. Hard thing for me is that my youngest will be graduating from High School the night before in GA and it currently seems impossible to make both events. I'm totally heart broken as my kids have only had me for most of their lives.  Thanks for the support and the info.

  • rja

    Hello Ronny,

Thank you for the hello!  My son leaves for RTC 26-JUN and will head to Ft. Sam Huston for Hospital Corpsman training.  I'm very proud of his decision!

  • AZNavymom

    Thanks, Ronny!

  • andmicjersam

Thank you Ronny for the note. I don't know much about how all this works, and after next week, I think I will have much more time to read through everything. I'm a student and am in finals and I am in countdown mode. :)

I didnt know how the recruits were able to call home, I know we didnt hear from our son this last weekend, and I didnt know if they were provided calling cards, or if we have to provide for them. He has not mentioned that in any of his letters.

After next week, I will check out the link you sent me, and would love to see some of the products available. I took a quick glance at the throw and thought it was pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing more.

    Thanks again,

    Yvonne Boggs,

Proud mama to a beautiful young man, a US Navy Recruit

Thank you for the info.  My son leaves for boot camp June 18th.  I am very proud of him :)

  • Sierrascrapper (ETN2)

Thanks for your words of encouragement Ronny.  We signed the papers to send our son to MEPS in a couple weeks.  He will be joining the DEP program for his Senior year, so we will have a little time to plan.  Thanks for the welcoming and I hope to become friends with many of you in the near future.  This is such an exciting time in all of our lives!

  • Jess

Hi Ronny! Thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate it! I'm an ex Navy wife, so I understand pretty well how it all works and am still toying with the idea of joining myself. I still have a lot to think about! The phone card thing is SUPER cool by the way, very useful and appreciated by many I'm sure.

    Thanks!
    Jess
  • Buckeyemom

Thanks for the helpful hints.  I'm brand new to the whole military thing so I appreciate your help.

  • SoCalJo

Thanks Ronny! I've already received phone cards for my son last week :0) I'm waiting for his address to send them out.

Third generation, you say your son is? What a impressive record. I guess we all owe you much more than just thank-yous for the phone cards and pics. We owe you foremost and above all a BIG THANK YOU for three generations of service (even though the third is still in making, LOL).

Take care, Ronny. Keep up good work. My donation's in the mail.

  • Lainey

Thank you so much for all the info. My son leaves June 17 to Chicago, IL for BC. I'm sure going to miss him all at the same time im a proud mom and i know he will do great!

  • cherryblossom092708

why do the recruits in boot camp need calling cards?? do they have to pay to use the phone or something?

  • cherryblossom092708

    ok, thanks for the info.

  • Heather Y

Thanks for the information.  We will check this out soon :)

  • Brandonsmom

Thank you so much. Yes this site is a God send. My son is the first of my family to go into the Navy and my oldest, so it was real hard to watch him leave, because we didn't know what to expect. So I used this site, and YouTube to see what he was going to be doing. I have to admit the graduation was very heart warming and emotional, but so worth it . He made it thru Boot Camp. It wasn't that bad leaving him there because he loves it and seems very happy. He is in A school there in Great Lakes. He just passed his test and is now a phase 2. He does have a friend in boot camp right now. If you could possibly send me that link you sent me in my email re: the cards I can let his mom know, because unlike my son his friend is having a hard time and is crying when he calls home. I just keep tell his mother to keep writing letters and have family and friends write him and to tell him that its all going to be worth it in the end. I am trying to set up a fund for family's that can't afford to go to their son/daughters graduation, because I feel that it's not only important for the graduate but the family's . It's an awesome experience and I feel everyone should experience it . Again thank you for all your support. New and very proud Navy Mom Michelle

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, I'm looking forward to browsing the site, everything is so unknown at this point.  Today my son checks in at the recruiter before checking in at a hotel next to the Federal Bldg (MEPS) with final swearing in tomorrow morning.  He's very nervous and excited and I'm nervous and excited for him.

  • hjl226

Thank you so much. My daughter just left for boot camp June 1, I am so  nervous for her, I miss her already, she told me about this site I'm glad she did. again thank you.

  • eeyoregirl ship 14 div 031

Thanks so much!! I am laughing at my son because I seem to know more than he does and he is the one leaving!! I will keep the cards in mind, as I am now scrambling for money just to go to see him graduate boot camp!! He is going to great lakes, and since it will be in December, we may be driving because all airlines are double priced around the Holidays!!!

  • lemonelephant

Please double-check the info next to

in Phone Cards and Phone Calls (clickable link) within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I had a mom tell me it's not quite right, but she didn't elaborate on her comment, so I figured it was best to ask you rather than ask her. No one else has indicated that the info I have posted on that is wrong (it's been there since last fall with some updates), but I don't want to be putting out wrong info. Thank you so much for what you do. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Thank you so much for the e-mail.  My son, Adam, is a new Boot Camp (2 week) trainee. This is all so new to me, and sometimes overwhelming, but your site makes things easier, so thank you for all that you do.

Hello there , I just received my sons graduation date on July 19th and was wondering , due to the high cost of air flight cheaper than the one listed on the brochure. Is it best to get a one way or to buy round trip. Well I got a lot to do to find the cheapest rates on car, hotel, flight. Any news will help.

    Thank you,
