OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Welcome to NAVYforMoms!   Our members are looking forward to meeting you and answering your questions.

Please go to “Settings” on the main page to add a profile image and complete your Profile.  We ask that members use a last name in their Username (even if it differs from their Sailor's) and not post photos with names visible on uniforms.  For more, please read our Community Guidelines and this Operations Security checklist.

Jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and their Discussion Forums.

Also, find and join groups for your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" school, duty station or homeport and ship, and also your own state, region or home town, and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas.

Be sure to introduce yourself when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - we were all new to this once, too  :)  We look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor, and welcome to the NAVY family!

You can leave Great Lakes A School Q&A since your future Sailor will not be staying in GL for "A" School. Click Great Lakes A School Q&A and then click "Leave Group" in the upper right.

Join Seabee Moms.

The Rating Information Card for Equipment Operator (EO) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/eo.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your future Sailor.

Hi, when did or will your future Sailor ship to the RTC? If you know the ship date, go to the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. At the bottom are links for each of the months, join the one for the month that your future Sailor ships.

I also invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.
