I decided today that I want to do something that will involve my students in the process I'm going through. I teach special needs middle school students; mostly autistic kids and those with mild to moderate mental disabilities. They all know Sarah, as she has volunteered in my classroom many times. They knew she was going into the Navy, but I only shared with them today that she is gone to bc. (one of my girls asked why I seem so sad lately.) I know that some recruits don't get a lot of mail,… Continue

My girl went to boot camp on Nov. 14. I have had 1 phone call, and she was a mess. I have had no letter yet, not even the formal one that gives details about graduation. We didn't even get a call on Thanksgiving. I went to Navy boot camp 25 years ago, so I know what she's going through...I remember the utter exhaustion and bitter loneliness. I remember 80 other girls who liked and hated me alternately, depending on what time of the month it was. I just wish I knew how she is doing.

Bella7177, I'm still figuring out how to navigate this site, so disregard my question about if you've heard from her.  After I posted that I saw where the rest of the posts were.  I hope your girl is feeling better!  It's hard for them to be there sick.  It's hard for us too, because we can't help them and can't ask them every hour if they are feeling better.  Hang in there!

HI Bella7177; thanks for the note.  It's so helpful to know there is someone else who thinks they "shouldn't" be worried or sad because we know what boot camp is like and we survived it.  You really hit the nail on the head when you said it's because we just can't be there for them.  I have total confidence that my daughter will do fine, but I'm used to being her sounding board about most everything -- that lack of communication now is the hardest thing.  Have you heard from your daughter yet?

HI Bella7177..LOL.... yup thats my girl..makeing spit bubbles!! she has been doing that forever my lovely brother taught her that!! LOL..My daughter called over the weekend and told me about how your daughter said "hey my mom is talking to a mom from Maine..Hey wait..your from Maine!"..she thought that was pretty funny and cool at the same time.she said they all think its funny and tease her that she just goes with the flow and doesnt let anything get to her.  But in general its sounds as though they are doing well. I got a letter today telling me she is the religous petty officer so now insted of free time on sundays that takes most of it( ha..nobody would volunteer so she did) but thats ok.

Hi Bella7177 my day was ok thanks how about yours? you shouldnt have to do anything to the phonecard, it gets activated when you buy it and then she will dial the number with the pin its all on the phone card itself .
