Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
My stepson started boot camp on August 21, 2012, when he was 18 years old. He has matured so much and likes his job, loves his friends. Now my 22 year old son joined the Navy and will go to boot camp on March 22, 2016. I'm a nervous wreck, but I'm so proud of his decision!
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
Because I am a worrier, the best advice I have heard so far is, "If you don't hear anything, everything is ok."
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your future Sailor.

What is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and/or where is he stationed (what vessel, if one)? There may be groups I can direct you to.

Since your future Sailor has contracted within the A-PACT program, the information within Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program will be of interest to you.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to Pensacola the day after PIR, but may fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues. Plan to leave on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 03/22/2016 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.  Take care and blessings to you and yours.
