OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Not the email address, you need to change the URL (web address for this page). Follow the directions in changes 2 and 3 of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile)

Yes, you changed your Username, but your full name is still in the URL above. Make changes 2 and 3.

The recruiter will know very little now that he is in the fleet. If your son has a facebook account then message him on that, but realize that he may not have access to the internet very often while underway. It is up to him to contact you.

You may want to join NAS Jacksonville. Join Avionics Technicians (AV) Moms and check out Airman Family and Friends. If he has the Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE) rating join Aviation Electronic - AE orif he has the Aviation Electronics Technician (AT) rating, join Aviation Electronics Technician (AT).

There may have been several vessels that have departed Jacksonville recently. There are many vessels with that as the home port.

It is common to go 2 or more weeks without contact when a vessel is underway. Email and facebook were the most reliable ways to contact my Sailor when he was underway.

What is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and/or where is he stationed (what vessel)? There may be groups I can direct you to.

Your Sailor will be able to give you his address and email address to write to him. Be sure to ask him if he has given your info to the Ombudsman of the vessel so that you can get updates from her.

If your Username contains your last name, you need to make changes 1, 2, and 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). (If it doesn't, you still need to make change 3.) There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.
