Jackie, what will John be doing if he goes to Afgan.? Explain about his "battalion"- I am not familiar with this.
That was nice you got to see him for 2 weeks. How did he look? Glad he's enjoying what he's doing- that's important!
Hard to think you may not see him for such a long time. Paul calls me once a week. I need to get in the habit of emailing him. When he calls the connection is so bad I can hardly hear him most of the time. He had said that when he goes on a ship it could be months of no communication. I can't even think about that.
Sometimes I feel like he's just "away" and he'll be back, but it will never be the same will it? The only time he will be back will just be a visit- and other than I know he will be home for Christmas who knows when the next time will be. I know he's home sick. Was John? I talked to him yesterday- kept having to ask him to repeat what he had just said. I asked if he was looking forward to me coming- he said he was. I wasn't sure that's why I asked. I didn't know if it was helpful for me to go and visit him if he had his own plans with friends.

Do you stay in touch with anyone else from John's DIV or our PIR group? Is there a group for John's school?
I am so glad there is a site for the GL school because I get a lot of questions answered.

Thanks for staying in touch. Hope to talk to you soon.

Jackie- it was great to read an email from you! I'm doing good. Working a lot of days and hours at the hospital lately. Looking forward to it slowing down after next week.
Paul is still at GL in A school. He has a long school- still more to go after he graduates in Jan from there. Then he will get sent somewhere for C school. I'm hoping it's in VA as that would be close to us. But he won't know till he grads. He is enjoying it but isn't looking forward to winter in GL.
That's great that John graduated already. Does he like the combat training? Where will they send him for his deployment?
I'm still on here! I'm going to meet a Maryland Navy mom this Sunday. Her son is on a ship already. I don't look at too many N4M sites other than the group for the school Paul's in. And there is a Maryland Moms group.
I'm going out to see Paul in a couple weeks. Haven't seen him since PIR and I really miss him. He's home sick but I'm hoping my going there will help him! He gets to come home at Christmas when the base has a stand down.
Have you seen John since PIR?
Hope you are doing well. Thanks for "checking in"!

Thanks Jackie. We have not heard from C yet except he did arrive in St. Louis yesterday and was waiting on the bus that was to leave at 7 p.m. with a 2 hour bus ride ahead of them. I would have thought we would have heard something by now but if I have learned anything it is PATIENCE...Good luck to yours in Gulfport, perhaps our son's paths will cross one day. GO NAVY AND SEABEAS!!!

Jackie, just got home and I got a letter! Short but it does 'sound' different. He talked about getting the marksmanship last fri and was excited about that. Said the food is good for cafeteria food and you don't 'have' to eat everything on the plate but he does cause he said he's starving. They get 15 min to eat and he said it was barely time to chew but he's so hungry he just inhales it.
II asked if his RDC was ok with them getting comic strips and he said yes his RDC is pretty cool about mail.
You can tell the excitement more as he writes. Passed last weeks test. Of course they have this week and the next coming up he's a little nervous about- said there is no room for mistakes.
Told me what to bring when we come. He will be staying in GL for school but still not sure when it starts.

Now I forgot what else was in your email. I'll have to go back and see and answer it from there. He mentioned calling but didn't say when. Maybe after BS is when he means.
