I forgot to tell you I lived in Pensalcola, Florida in the mid 1980's for 3 years.  The beach is beautiful down there so I hope your son enjoys it.  :-)

Hi Tricia,

I am actually from Machesney Park but said Rockford because most people have never heard of it.  My son will start BC in April and will then head to South Carolina to study to become a Nuke.

No!! :( I think she is two rows ahead of him, I'm just guessing based on last week's pictures, she plays the oboe. I talked to her last week for a few minutes.

That's just amazing, like you said, what are the chances? I told Jason in a letter that I was in touch with a mom with a son named Lin, so I'll see if he says anything in a letter to us confirming. I think we're the only two on here so far with sons in 902. The rest seem to be girls. There must be a lot of moms that don't come on this site. I'd be going crazy without it. I can't wait to get my next letter from Jason. I work full time so I'm afraid I'll miss a phone call from him, even if he calls my cell phone, I can't always answer right away at work. So will you guys being staying near the base or are you going to commute back and forth every day? That would be really nice if you could take Lin home for the weekend. We are staying at Springhill Suites in Waukegan. We're flying into Chicago Midway, it was a better deal for us on Southwest with flexibility if we need to change things. I'll let you know when I get my next letter or call. Take care.

Yes, we got a written letter from Jason first on Thursday then on Friday we got the form letter confirming PIR 11/24. I booked my flights last night. Now I will be looking into car rental, motels, etc. Jason is my youngest at 20. I also have a 22 year old daughter who is a full time college student still living at home. My husband and my daughter and I will be coming out for PIR. My brother was in the Navy back in the 80s and my husband's family has Navy history (his grandfather and uncle). I don't quite know how my son got into div 902. He plays the guitar and he has previous high school ROTC experience so maybe that had something to do with it. I felt bad that he had to wait around for so long, I had no idea that might happen. His little note on the form letter sounded positive .. happy that they were finally starting some action. We've sent a few letters once we found out his address on Thursday, I hope he doesn't have to wait to long to get them. Talk to you again soon.

Hi Tricia. Yes, I'm very excited too. I'm from the San Diego, CA area. My son is graduated two years ago. Tried the college thing, the full time job thing, and then made a decision on his own that he wanted to join the Navy. He also joined back in Feb and has been waiting all this time. The last day I saw him was September 21st when he went to MEPS in San Diego. He arrived on 9/23 at RTC. I just found this website about a week or so ago when I was starting to get really worried. It has helped me a lot. We are still waiting for that official form letter showing his PIR date but it sounds like you already got yours. I've been checking into airfare around that time .. yikes .. I'm afraid to book it until I know for sure. Does your info/letter say anything about how much liberty time they get to have? I know normally PIRs are on Friday, but I'm wondering how it works when it falls on Wednesday. I look forward to keeping in touch. Is this your first in the military? It's my first.

Yeah there is a ton of stuff on here! I have searched for forums about girlfriends in the navy and i found a lot in there! I spent a long time reading them all and everything and its really cool. Thank you so much for telling me about this site! I just joined those groups and just added her.
Thats good things are going well. Same here, but I miss him a lot. I feel like it has been more than 3 days that I havent talked to him. But, its only 8 weeks so thats really not that long.

Pat-- Our son is only 17 and he goes to boot camp in September and then to Pensacola after that for A school. He is very excited. He is very good with computers and we were very happy when IT is where he ended up.
