OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Needed to learn more about it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
It's been a positive experience, not only for myself but I feel like for my son too. He was the one that was interested in the military during high school, but waited until he was 20 to enlist with the Navy (following his Pop and Opa's footsteps. The recruiter was very reassuring and was great with my son throughout his almost year of DEP.
Our Navy experience so far...

Welcome to Navy for Moms! Saw your comment on the discussion "Ship3 Division234" in PIR 7/1/10. I have had a great time since joining myself. My son never has been much of a writer, and so have only received one letter (except for the 3 words he wrote on his form letter), and 4 phone calls. I missed the first one (didn't realize we got an I'm here call), and then pretty much slept with my phone after that, for a real quickie to say grad date was no longer the 2nd, but the first, then his longer two calls. I have really gotten much more information on this site about what exactly goes on. It's nice to talk to other moms that are going through the same things.
