OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

December 8th Basic Training, Ship11 Div 067 other moms from the same

our son, the youngest of two kids left December 8th for basic. He was in the delayed entry program since March and graduated HS in June. we are very proud of him, however we are going crazy. We miss him so much. We are always thinking about him, wondering what he is doing, is he ok, what are his days like. the first time in nineteen years we can't talk to him or even get a text. We received the box Tuesday but no form letter yet. His recruiter gave his address on Friday, the day after he left.… Continue

Hi Kitty, thank you for the friendship add.  I don't think I can be of much help to you with your question as my grandson has been in the Navy almost 4 years now and, in fact, he just reenlisted.  Also, things change so quickly at Great Lakes, I'm sure the timing is different now than it was in 1998.  I haven't been on the Great Lake site much at all since Michael got his assignment after finishing A school so I don't know if there are current posts as to the timing.  I know how tough this is for you and we all have been through it.  I couldn't have done it without the support of Navy for Moms.  If you look back in the forums, I started a forum there and one of the Dad's in the group my grandson was in was a great contributor so you might want to look up his posts...Gary Twardoski.  Of course, like I said, it probably has changed now, but it will give you an idea of life in Great Lakes.  Hang in there TOUGH, Navy mom.  My grandson was also a "depper."  Hugs, Grandma Vee
