OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
I live in eastern Ohio with my mother. My only child - my son is an Air Traffic Controller assigned to the USS Makin Island. I was born and raised in Ohio but moved to Tampa, Florida in 1971 and lived and worked there until Jan. 2007 when I retired from a County government job after 32+ years and returned to Ohio. I am currently employed part time at our local senior center and I also volunteer there.

When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
Patience and communication are probably the two most important things I have learned. The Navy has their own timetable and no amount of fretting is going to change the way things are and eventually things will all turn out ok although not necessarily on my schedule. He has now completed boot camp, A school in Pensacola, duty assignment in San Diego, back to Pensacola for C school, then to Mississippi to board his ship for their trip around South America to San Diego for their commissioning and now preparing for deployment. I have survived and he has thrived. He has become so much more mature and each day I am filled with more pride in his accomplishments and in witnessing the wonderful adult he has become, more pride than I even realized I was capable of feeling the day before.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
