So, yes - it is hard to send them off to boot camp and mostly because we want to know HOW are they? Do they hate it? Are they sorry they joined? Does that sound like any of your thoughts?! If so, I will tell you that when we started getting letters from our son - he would say...it's not that bad, food's pretty good and wish we did more PT! He even stated it was boring on occassion ----- so I didn't worry anymore but I lived week to week for the newest letters to see if his feelings had changed. They never did :-) Your first real letters will arrive between the 2nd and 3rd week of boot camp because they only write on Sundays and those letters usually arrive at home on Wednesday or Thursday depending on where you live. You will breathe much better when the letters start and before you know it - you will be planning a trip to GL for his PIR (graduation). What rate is your son going into? Our son is an FC so he had almost two years of school but he is now with the fleet and stationed in Hawaii... someone had to take those orders!!! He is currently deployed and manages to call home from the middle of nowhere at least once a week. So not knowing is the difficult part of the Navy and unfortunately that comes with the territory but once the communications begin it will get easier. If we can help with any questions, please let me know.
