Pamela - welcome to the Japan group. Sorry that I can't help you with information about Misawa - my daughter has been in Sasebo since April 2009 and serves on the USS Essex. Were you looking for information specific to Misawa or ??

Hi Pamela, I guess you can say I am new. My son is still at BC. He PIR's next Friday. I am waiting for my "I'm A Sailor" call as well. But my son will be joining the ranks at GC on Wednesday 23rd. Just wanted to stop in and say hello to a fellow Nuke mom newbie!

I know how you feel.  My son said that only the boys who did well got to call home. It was a reward. He said there are a few who are messing up but what upsets him is these particular boys are not trying and dont seem to care which makes it harder for everyone. He said there is no talking to them.. We are flying from boston to milwaukee. we got a great price.   It is tuff for me to he had a curfew for 10 during the week and 11 on the weekend only if he had something constructive to do. He asked for 12 and I told him no. He said but mom I am going into the navy and I have to be home early than my friends.  Mr reply was " I am calling the Navy and telling them you have a 10 p.m. curfew"  He laughed and said you probably would....We go from so much control to none at all.  A co worker of mine is a retired Navy Master Chief and he told me there job was basically like being the surrogate parent, especially with young kids. He said they keep a closer eye on the young boys who are away from home for the first time. they dont want them "ripping out" in his terms, and getting into trouble.   He said they will not be able to call until the twentieth. I cant wait to hear from him.....
