OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Sandy, I am not a member of the PIR Reference Information group - that one is not as active as the BC Mom Group - I will try to post some information there. The fact that PIR is opening back up is new to many of the members who are still around and had sailors graduate that were not able to go to PIR. My son graduated PIR 4 years ago. When my son graduated PIR, he flew out on the first flight practically at O'Hare airport. We really don't know what a PIR weekend is going to look like for those sailors flying out to their A schools until we have information back from parents like you. If you are on FB - you might want to post a question there - (20+) Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes | Facebook

And like I said, keep checking the BC Mom group page as that is the most active group with regards to BC.

Good Morning Sandy, I saw you had posted a chat in the main room chat, that is also an area that gets very little attention here on the N4M site as not everyone notices is or sees it. I see you joined the BC Moms group. Please click on that group to the left and go to the group page. Once there, scroll down past all of the information, past the discussions, and then you will come to a Comment Wall area like this one. That is where we carry on our daily chatter, post questions, our concerns and more of the members are likely to see your messages and reply to them.

As for a phone call - Not all phone calls are guaranteed, many things can prevent them but generally you will receive a call mid way through BC and then one after they have completed Battle Stations.

As for letters - you should receive a Form Letter with information regarding PIR (they are opening it back up and we have that information being posted in our comment area on BC Mom). This form letter will arrive anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks after they left for BC depending on if they had to quarantine or not. Once you have the letter with his mailing address then you may send letters via USPS or Sandboxx. Anything mailed prior is likely to just be set aside and not delivered to them. They are allowed to write on Sunday afternoon and then mailed on Mon. They should receive their mail M-Sat once they have trained one of the recruits from their division to be the Mail Petty Officer.

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
