OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

The Night Before Deployment

I haven't posted in sooo very long.... Illness has had me down for many years (started during Jay's time in boot). Between that, Jay separating from the Navy for a time (long story having to do with the helo's he was assigned to falling out of the sky... He got a bit tired of that), savoring his civilian time, then realizing there was more he wanted, no NEEDED, to do as a member of the armed forces. He has since returned as part of his IRR to working with our Special Forces, but not exactly… Continue

Hi All!!

Well, Jeremy graduated boot on 23 Jan 09. What an exciting time! We were so very lucky that he didn't end up a grad and go! He ships out to Pensacola on Wednesday and we got to spend the whole weekend with him. There isn't much to do in Chicago in the dead of winter but, Jay felt more like sitting around, anyway, since they don't get to do that during basic...

He looked so skinny and sallow but, I guess 2 months of no sun, working hard and lack of sleep will do… Continue

Phone call and Christmas Stuff

Posted on January 7, 2009 at 1:59am 0 Comments

Well, we got a quick phone call from Jay the Tuesday before Christmas... it was so nice to hear his voice!!! I nearly screwed up though... with this economy and my lack of work, I tend not to answer calls from numbers I don't recognize so, I missed his first call. Then I sat and willed him to call me back while I stared impatiently at the phone.

He called back, and he spoke a mile a minute! I've never heard my son speak that much, that quickly - EVER! I had to get him to stop and… Continue

ok, first Holiday in the bag...

Well, Jay left for boot Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I received the 2 second phone call at 2:30 am when he hit Great Lakes - and when I woke up in the morning, I wasn't sure if I had dreamt the call or if it actually occurred.

Friends had us over on Thanksgiving so that we weren't home alone (one daughter is in NY, the other is in another town here in FL). My sister decided we should have a family Thanksgiving on Saturday... all was well until I realized I had set an "extra" place at… Continue
