Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

If your Username contains your last name, also make changes 1 and 2.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your future Sailor.

What is your future Sailor’s Navy Occupational Specialty (NOS) or field going to be? There are groups for most specialties and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March. You will meet others with loved ones leaving in March 2017 who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC.

I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.

Welcome to NAVYForMoms!

Members are looking forward to meeting you and answering your questions.  We're all here for you, so get ready for a ton of support!  The more you learn about your son's occupational specialty (and there's a group for it), will not only help set your apprehensions aside, but enable you to be of help and support to him as he moves forward.

We ask that you not use last name in your Username (even if it differs from your Sailor's) and not post photos with names visible on uniforms.  Please go to “Settings” on the main page to set your Username, add a profile image and complete your Profile.  Then please read our Community Guidelines and this Operations Security checklist.

Jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and their Discussion Forums.  Search for groups for boot camp, your PIR date, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" school, duty station or homeport and ship, and also your own state, region or home town, and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas.

Be sure to introduce yourself when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - we were all new to this once, too  :)  We look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor, and welcome to the NAVY family!
