Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My 19 year old son is leaving for GL bootcamp on 7/9 ...Im excited and worried... cant stop crying... I had him at 24 and we have never really been apart. He goes to Nuke school in South Carolina…Continue
I am so proud of my 19 year old son for having the courage and confidence to leave home and go after his dreams. I know he will be successful in whatever he does. As a mother I am nervous and scared for him but know he will be in good hands with the Navy. I feel alot of sadness that he is leaving for boot-camp 7/9/2014 and I know the time he is away I will miss him terribly but I have to remember he is becoming a man and creating an amazing future for himself . I hope being part of this forum and discussions can help with all the emotions that are running through me...please feel free to connect with me and we can support each other!

It's not a good idea to post a pic of your recruit every time you post. See change 4 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). To increase PERSEC, don't include ANYONE in your profile picture.
Also make change 3 while you are there so that this page is no longer open to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. I suggest "Just My Friends" since you have chosen to include pics on your My Page. You can make change 5 and delete the pics to increase PERSEC.
There may be other changes you need to make as well (1 and 2???), so read and consider each of the changes.
Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.
Since you have a Sailor, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted." You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.
Join USS DEWEY, DDG105 (it’s not very active, but if you post, others may also), San Diego Moms or Sailors in San Diego, San Diego Moms/SOs, and/or Sailors Stationed in California.
Taking my son shortly to meet with his recruiter to head to downtown Pittsburgh to finish up last min paperwork, I plan on going down this evening to take him to dinner and spend some more time with him. Tomorrow.morning he will be sworn in and heading to Great Lakes. Going to be a emotionally 24 hrs.
Since your future Sailor will be in the Nuclear Field, you will want to join NUKE moms and you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend when the time comes. Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY at that time.
