My son survived his first blizzard at Great Lakes.

I am back from Graduation!

OMG! so much to tell everyone. First, if you are going to spend some time in Chicago, don't drive. Chicago has NO parking at all. If you do drive, make sure you set a side parking money. It is expensive and make sure you read the parking signs.

Graduation was awesome. All the sailors did a great job. We got to spend 21/2 days with my son. The weather got bad so we didn't go to far. Gurnee is a great city to find good eats. Lots of shopping and spending time together. My sailor, moved…

I was looking at my facebook, checking out all the pictures from the recruits Thanksgiving. Finally, I found a picture of him and some friends. He looks hansome in his uniform and most of all HAPPY. Thank you to all volunteers that gave up their Thanksgiving to make sure that the recruits had a hot meal and a Happy Thanksgiving. Most of all Thanks for the Picture.

Hi Kathy.  We are just finishing up a great weekend here.  Jordan's graduation was on the 14th.  It was awesome.  My in-laws and daughter from college were able to join my husband, son and myself for the events.  It has been a great family time of playing games, watching movies and just enjoying each others company.  We ended up staying at the Candlewood Suites in Libertyville.  We ate out some and ate in our room alot too.  We just bought groceries and prepared meals.  Jordan brought 2 of his buddies to spend time with us too as their families weren't able to be here.  1 of them spent yesterday with his and the day of graduation.  They are sweet guys.  We are fortunate that tomorrow (Monday) is a holiday and he gets tomorrow off as well and will move on Tuesday to his A school.  We will fly out tomorrow evening.  He will be in GL for his A school.  I will have to tell him to look for your son.  What is his name?  We leave Thursday for Africa.  We wont be back until August, but will get to talk alot on the phone to him which will be nice.  I am so glad that he will have more freedom then.  Look forward to staying in touch with you.  Blessings. ~ Beverly

Hi..sorry I haven't written in a while.  You were really the only one that I was in contact with on here, and when I wrote you a couple of times and didn't hear back, I thought you must not be on anymore.   Jordan is doing good.  Letters are much better and best of all, my husband got to go and get him and another recruit out for Christmas day.  It was a very different Christmas, but good.  We Skyped alot and it was great to see and hear him.  He still was not liking boot, but was alot more accepting and just ready to get on with his A school.  I think that this week is the Battle Stations week.  I haven't heard from him since Christmas day.  I'm hoping the gas thing went ok last week for him.  Ugh.  I can't imagine.  How is everything with your son?  Look forward to hearing from you.

That is great that you got his did you get it so fast? I just found a post on N4M it was Fun Questionaires to send to your recruit in Boot Camp (I wasn't sure how to send it to you) but it was really cute and funny, it made me laugh I think if you do a search it you will find it. It will put a smile on your face, I will definetly print it and send it to my son once he is in BC, if anything he will get a laugh at how crazy his mom really is.

I sometimes read the posts on Leaving for BC the week of Oct 4 and my heart breaks I feel the emotions all of you are going through because I know it we be me in shortly. All of the Oct mom's are in my heart and thoughts constantly....HUGS to you...Elizabeth

I have been thinking about you over the last couple of are you? Have you heard from your son? I am sure that he has not been able to tell you much everyone says that the call is only about 15 seconds long. I belong to the group "Leaving for Boot Camp the week of October 25" I read a post this morning from a girl who is leaving that week for BC and the conversation she had with her mom it was very similar to what your son said to you at MEPS, needless to say its been weepy day for me. My son turned 18 over the summer, its hard to not think of him as my little boy. Take care and I look forward to hearing from you. ((HUGS))
P.S. - if you can't, are unable or don't want to respond I completely understand

Oh my goodness it was today?!? Wow, I am so happy to hear your story and what your son said to you, it sounds like he was ready, good for him. We have 23 days till my son's ship date, he woke up this morning and reminded me, ugh, like I haven't seen a calendar, hahaha.
After they swear in at MEPS, can you give them a hug? do they walk out the back door get in the van/bus and leave? Please keep me updated on your son's progress...I'm cheering him on here in FL :o)

I read your post titled "7 days" like you I am very conflicted as to whether to take my son to the hotel, go to MEPS the morning he ships out or stay home. I am a very emotional person especially when it comes to my boy's and I'm afraid that I will be a big mess. My son leaves for BC 10/27, I want you to know you are not alone with your feelings, my heart is with you as you make your decision....Good Luck to your son
