OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello! Saw your postings about your son and wanted to say Welcome! We live outside of Austin and I have 2 sons already in the Navy. One in Norfolk and one in school for rescue swimmer. They're 25 and 18. Just wanted to say that it's about 1 1/2 weeks before you get their address. And even then, when you do start mailing your letters, there's a lag time before they get their mail delivered. It will be about 3 weeks before you get mail from them. Just hang in there.........know that your son is just fine. This is a big adjustment period for the new recruits upon their arrival at BC. Best, Kerry

Hi Marcs mom,
I just wanted to drop in and say hello. I see you have already joined several groups geared towards new members and January Bootcamp group. That is good. There is also a big group in TX. Just click on groups above and input TX in the search box. N4M was not in existence when my son joined the Navy. In fact N4M started just March of 2008. We now have almost 30,000 registered members. Because the N4M site exceed beyond anyone's expectations, some of the guidelines are not compatible with the size of the membership. In addition, the number of members makes this group a "target rich" environment for spammers, scammers and email address harvesters. I am the person who noticed that Kayleigh Hall and Gloria Lopez had lots of friends but they had not joined any groups nor had they posted any comments on any forum discussions or blogs - activities typical of legitimate members. I started a campaign to alert all new members. JessicaB, one our dedicated moms has been helping us this project. The N4M admins are aware of them and I believe they are working on things but like the Navy, it is sometimes a slow process. In the meantime, we did not want any of our new members to their email addresses on somebody's sucker list.
Regards, BunkerBee
