Welcome to NavyForMoms.com!!

I hope you get all the information here you are looking for.  Please stop by the Survival Guide for New Moms for some of the info to start with.
If you have a new Recruit and need phone cards for them please check out Calls for Recruits.org and get them for FREE.  I feel that the Family, Loved Ones, nor the Men and Women of our Armed Forces should have to pay for phone calls from Boot Camp.  The link above will take you to the website to send the email for the FREE phone cards if you need them.  Please spread the word if you know of anyone who can use this great service!!!

Hi there!

Sorry for the delayed response to your questions!  Crazy week after returning from PIR and getting ready for a REAL vacation finally!

Sarge is a retired Army vet that holds a Meet and Greet every Thurs at the Sundance Saloon for families.  He is a WEALTH of information. You can connect to him by clicking the link on the side bar for any of the meet and greet dates and it will pull up his email , phone number etc.  I did not call him until about 2 weeks prior to leaving as I needed transportation for one of my boys flying in a different day from us. Sarge will give you so much info and has connections for hotels, restaurants and he also runs a taxi service!  He also helps the guys out during A school at eh Nvel Training command when they have liberty!

Speaking of liberty, the weekend of PIR liberty time will depend on where your sailor attends A school ( next phase of training).  My son is special ops so stays at Great Lakes for another 8-10 weeks. If staying, they will move Fri afternoon after PIR (which takes several hours) and then free for remainder of evening. They have to be back and checked in by 10pm each night. we picked him up at 6:30 am each day!  We had all day Sat and Sun!  I would also rent a car if you plan to drive around-we got car at Enterprise in Waukegan. They were very good-van for about$107/day!  We did not go into Chicago as it is about a 45 min drive without traffic!  Lots to see and do if your sailor wants to site see. Ours just wanted to hang out with his wife and us!  Mostly the wife!!

Get to PIR early as suggested for best seats and bring something to sit on- cold metal bleachers and it ws cold in the hall!!  Enjoy the day-it is amazing!!

Hope this gives you helpful info!  I will be off line as NO electronics allowed on vacation!  Any other questions and I will get back to you after 7/23!!
