OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Just wanted to say I'm so sorry about your news....but have hope!  Injuries happen alot in Bootcamp and most will be setback for healing, but will graduate.  I hope you hear from your son after he has the Medical assessment to see what is going on.  Praying that he just needs a little rest and will be back training soon!  By the way, I live in Miami.....so we are neighbors!  :-)  Hang in there...my son was setback for a week when at bootcamp in 2009 and he finally made it through.  So lots of prayers!

Yes, you may be worse than me about the cold. We're in Lake City, just north of Gainesville so we do get a little cold weather, but nothing like Chicago! I remember when we lived in south Florida, it would be in the 80s and the kids would have jackets on, lol. The year I was in 10th grade, we actually lived in the edge of Ft Lauderdale, but I went to Hollywood Hills High School. How old is your SR? Mine is 21 and will be heading to Pensacola for A school.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC, and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Since your SR has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), you may also want to check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf; it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
