Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
I am a mother of 6. My third child is going to BC on 1/21/15. I want to learn as much as I can to support him in his decision to fight for our freedom!
I am here to support my

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?

When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was concerned or afraid
The Navy offers opportunities that...
From the research I have done, I am very encouraged. I was afraid at first because he is my son, and as a parent you never want your child in harm's way. I know that God's hand is on him, so now I am in the find out as much as I can about his new adventure in life. I recently watched the faces of the Navy, and this really helped to calm my fears. I am very proud of my son for making this decision, I just have to adjust to the 'see you laters' -- below he hasn't gone to BC yet; but I can already see a difference in him waiting to leave.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Don't forget to make at least change 3.

I hadn't heard that a recruit could change ratings without good cause.

If he gets a contract for Aircrew (AIRC), join AIRCREW, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola and check out Airman Family and Friends.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR, but may fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues. Plan to leave on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Your Sailor will be assigned to a class "A" school for a rating within the AIRC program while in Naval Aircrew Candidate School (NACCS). That assignment will be based on his/her test scores, personal desires, needs of the Navy, and continued eligibility for the aircrew program. The Rating Information Card for AIRC can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aircrew.pdf; the one for Naval Aircrewmen Mechanical (AWF) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awf.pdf; the one for Naval Aircrewmen (Operator) (AWO) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awo.pdf; and the one for Naval Aircrewmen (Avionics) (AWV) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awv.pdf.

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to ANYONE with access to the web. There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes. Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.

The Rating Information Card for AECF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aecf.pdf. The Rating Information Card for Electronics Technician (ET) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/et.pdf and the one for Fire Controlman (FC) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/fc.pdf.

You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.)

Thank you for your comment, Pam. Having my daughter and I say our goodbyes from home was a good idea. His step-dad took him to the recruiters office but my son preferred that he not go in as well. He wasn't being a jerk, he just didn't want an audience and was so ready to take the first step of becoming a man without his family watching. Wishing you and your son strength!

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Thank you very much for all this helpful information!  I don't know what I would do without all the support from other Navy moms that have been through this already!

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 91/21/2015 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
