The Box

Got the box yesterday. I couldn't wait to get home for it then didn't want to open it. I loved seeing his writing on the outside. When I finally opened the box I was surprised to see that everything seemed to be tossed in! After reading the posts about the neatly folded and rolled clothes, seeing my SR's jumbled up made me smile. It was so Michael.

He cleaned his room before he left. Disconnected his computer, made his bed. Things are lined up, put away. Then, the first thing we get… Continue

He is stationed in San Diego. Can anyone share any info as to what exactly he will be doing and how one gets appointed to this? Thanks!

Navy Trumps End of School Count

Today I realized that my son's countdown to the date he leaves has trumped the countdown to the end of school. I teach school and the students have 11 more days. I was with some teachers at the end of the day today, and one asked, "How many more days?" While the others said "11", I said "29". Everyone asked, "What?" I realized that I was now counting down until my boys leaves, and had  no idea how many more days we had until the end of school.

Yesterday on the way to the gym…

What should I send?

Since I have only spoken with Nick once, i don't know what I should send in his care package.  He's on a ship overseas and will be there for many months.  What items would he appreciate most....cookies, razors, etc?

Well, ............ he's at bootcamp.

My Jay left for bootcamp Monday, May 7, 2012.  We went to the MEPS center to see him swear in and sign his contract.  It was soo emotional, but even though our eyes were filled with tears, our hearts were filled with sooo much pride.  I still haven't stepped foot into his room.  He called at 8:00 last night when they landed in Chicago. They were eating before checking in.  We talked a little about how his flight was since it was his first time flying.  Just chit chat.

He made his last…

First Weekend Down

Well, it was nice to have a weekend pass knowing I'm one week closer to my son's PIR, whenever that may be. I am looking forward to sharing the news of my letter and dreading the "box". I don't know if he'll send one, he left with only the clothes he was wearing. He didn't even wear a jacket! I couldn't say much when we were at meps, only hope he stayed warm. What a mom thing to think!

We had one mystery solved, thanks to n4ms: his "I'm here" call came from North Carolina. Finally… Continue

The box was sitting on the table when I got home....it's strange...as I was looking forward to it, but then I didn't want to open it! Oh...the clothes, just stuffed in there! And his shirt still smelled like him....and stinky socks...but still! I can't stop smelling it! I'm going to wear it tonight to bed...stinky and all!

J's 18th birthday!!!

Can't believe my baby is 18 today. He joined the Navy on march 13,2012, he graduates high school June 1, 2012 and leaves for boot camp in September. But, it seems like just yesterday I was holding my precious boy in my arms. My how time flies. I always knew he would go onto the military, never dreamed it would be the Navy, but I am so glad it is. I think it was a gray decision for him and am so proud of it. Just had to post my feelings today has been a bitter sweet day for me. I love him so… Continue

Left today

I don't really journal and have never blogged, so this is new for me. My son, Michael, left today for BC. I have such mixed feelings. I am so proud of him yet so sad. I am very thankful for this site as I would not have a clue about what's going on without it. My son signed up completely on his own and we never met his recruiter. That's Michael in a nutshell, independent.

So, for now, I am waiting. I actually felt better once we said goodbye after the swearing in ceremony. We could… Continue
