Been a while....

Just a quick update on our Sailor...currently on the dean's list in his A school and loving every thing about his learning process. He came home for a few days at Christmas and drove his Dad's car back across the country..... We did lose my Dad (sailor's grandfather) in January and were very thankful for the time he had with his baby boy during the holidays! On the down hill side of A school with graduation in a few months... he will actually be taking finals the day he turns 21! We will…

On the back side of Basic....

My son is at A School just waiting for classes to start. He has done a couple of volunteer charity etc. He did carry the Georgia flag for the Salute to the Nation that kicked off the 4th celebration. He sounds good and our next major hurdle is getting a car to him in a few weeks. He seems happy and had such a sparkle in those eyes when we saw him at PIR. The stress is worth it when you see those smiles, by far the most amazing transformation I have ever witnessed. He will always be my baby…

The next 2 weeks

The next two weeks can not pass by fast enough. I am counting days now and we are down to 18 1/2 until I see my baby. He sounded great when we had the last call, talking and nervous about the live rounds with the guns. We have a gun, but he has never even held one except for a BB Pistol. He must have done okay as we did not get a call that he didn't. Just the unknown of what to expect... I was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years, so I told him if his mom could master the different types of…

I gotta find something to stay busy with.....

My first day off from work today and it has been pure h e double hockey sticks. I know we can't keep our children forever, but golly gee this is harder than I thought it was going to be and it has only been 3 days. I called my Dad this morning and he said now I understand why it is so important for him to see my face and just be able to get a hug.I never really thought about my parents missing me, but I have come to a realization that they did miss me, they do miss me and I have to do a…

Ohhh that call

11:45 Hello this is G____ I arrived safe and am alive. You will receive a box with my personal belongings in approximately 10 days. I will call you in three weeks. I love you Momma! Click

We have all had that call. I was honored with being able to see him raise that right hand and swear to defend the United States of America yesterday.

He has big hopes and dreams for the future and wants to someday work in our Nation's Capitol in the field he has chosen to pursue.

My…

Here we go again....

My son is set to leave for the Great Lakes this Thursday. He has had to jump through hoops and walk the tight rope to get this far. We are praying that all will go as planned and he will soon be on his life journey. I am off so I will get to see him swear in. I was there with my oldest when he went into the army, and am very excited to see my baby boy when he pledges to the Navy. Keep my husband and me in your thoughts and prayers and will try to update when we know how all is going. My dad…

I am back!

After several months and two private consultations, they gave our son a waiver. He is set to leave April 25th for Great Lakes. This journey has been a hurry up and wait process and hopefully all will go well from here forward. I told him all in God's timing not ours... He did get to spend more time with his Grandfather (my Dad) whom he knows he will not see again this side of Heaven. My dad is terminally ill and my son is his youngest Grandchild. We pray he will be able to see our recruit…

In Limbo

So looks like I am going to have to go through this all over again, my baby is coming back home tonight. I made him wear long sleeves and jeans to help his dad in the yard to prevent bug bites, cuts and/or sunburn before going to MEPS. You guessed it he got a slight heat rash and they would not pass him in medical without a consult. They told him to take a seat until they could get him scheduled with a doctor. They forgot him and he sat there waiting from 8 til 3. By the time they realized…

My Last Night With My Hot Rod....

I am sitting here listening to the thunder roll and trying so come to grips with this chapter of life coming to an end. Our phone has rang off the hook the last couple of days and his Aunt that lives near us came over to get her hug. My side of the family is at least 5 1/2 hour drive away thus the phone calls. His big brother called from Wisconsin and they were on the phone for about an hour (of course he had to talk to his nieces too)  He wanted chinese food for his last day at home, so…

5 more wake ups.......

Just 5 more wake ups, just 5 more sleepy " I'm up Momma." and just 5 more wake ups and my next will be empty. He is so bored and antsy pantsy right now, he is cramming in all the face time and game time he can with his buddies. My Dad is 85 and is terminally ill with cancer and I know in my heart that my son has seen his Paw for the last time and I get all choked up when I talk to daddy on the phone right now as he is very close to both my boys.   My sister calls me about three times a day…

Anybody relate.....

I go from having a sob fest on his bed while he is gone to the gym to and immense sense of pride in all he is striving to do with his future. I look at him and I still see that little boy who slept in my lap at church on Sunday mornings. I see that sweet little boy who loved to watch Toy Story and drag his Woody Doll everywhere we went. I see that sweet little boy running around with his Bibleman Cape on. I see the little boy who loved playing soccer. I see my little boy who always wanted…

Getting closer......

Working on the list of things to do before our son ships. Learning lots of things as he has never been so open in his discussions before. We have always had the open door you can tell us anything policy, but seems I am meeting a grown man standing where my baby used to stand. I love his willingness to learn and the fierceness of his passion on things he cares most about. I truly cannot wait to see what his future holds and I pray the opportunity he now possesses will take him places I can…

Time slipping away

Time is slipping by so fast and in just a few short weeks my baby boy will leave for RTC and then out into the world of the Navy. We are beyond proud of him and all he has accomplished. My husband is 71 and I am 57, so this young man was a very special blessing from day one. Our oldest son will soon be 31 and has three daughters (he is an army vet). Our recruit turns 19 about 9 days before his ship date. He insists we don't make any kind of fuss over him, so we will do our best. He will be a…
