My boyfriend left for the Navy Sept 3rd. He will graduate Nov. the 5th. We know he has two years of A school ahead of him . My question is will he be abl to go home for at least a couple of days after boot camp graduation, before he goes into A- school?

ok so i take is that after graduation he goes straight to A school? Another question if you don't mind. will he at least get the day of graduation to go out with his family that attened graduation?

Paytonshana - typically a new sailor may get the weekend off with a lot of restriction after graduation but it depends on if he is staying in GL for school or if he is going to be sent to another state immediately for A school. If they fly him out he could leave the same day as graduation or a day or two later and this is referred to as Grad and Go.

A schools do holiday stand down, the dates have not been released yet but it would be fair to expect him to come home for the holidays. This is one time of the year that they will allow sailors to go in the hole for leave (vacation) time.

With two years of school, I'm curious is he going into the Nuke program or Advanced Electronics?
AECF stays in GL and Nukes go to Charleston.

Paytonshana --- sounds like he is going to be an ET so you may want to join us at...
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/fcsfirecontrol

The group is for ETs (electronic techs) and FC (fire control). They spend their first year in GL for school (give or take a few days) and then move to another state for their C school. He is going into a great job with lots of schooling on the front end.

There are always last minute changes, too. When my son PIRd he was supposed to have 12 hours, but that turned into grad and go at almost the last minute.

is it typically certain rates that are grad & go? how do they determine who is grad & go?
