does anyone know... my son should finish with A-pact in about 2-3 weeks, in Pensacola,  then he said he can come home for maybe 2 weeks  BEFORE he goes on to his base in California.  BUT that it would be considered " re-routing" and that he would have to pay the plane ticket difference to come home first then on to his base.  What I would like to know is...is this typical and do they still get paid while they are "off " for those days they are home??    Still trying to figure all this out, very confusing...and WHEN do they find out  when they actually leave to go to their base?  Thanks NFM...couldn't have made it this far without  you!!

Hello everyone I'm. New to this site but Sud love to offer any support or a listening ear or caring heart if anyone needs or wants it. I have a son and a son n law both in the Navy and they have both served 2 years and have been on so many deployments. Its hard to let them go but at the same time I'm spookier very proud of them for all they do for our country, and lets not forget the spouses and families. That give up so much and give of themselves as well. My thoughts and prayers. Are with each and every one of them and those of you on here. GOD BLESS!!

Leave is paid vacation days which they earn at 2.5 days per month.  They need permission to take these days, and it is common to do so while in transit between commands.  Liberty is normal time off like weekends when they don't have duty, and holidays.

When they get their orders, there will be a "report no later than" date on it for when they must check in to their new command, how many travel days they have (not charged as leave) and how many leave days they are authorized to take.  As for when they get these orders in hand... welcome to hurry up and wait.

My son was in A-school in Pensacola & flew home to Cali then off to SD. My son's ticket from A school was sending him straight to his base in SD, he paid the difference of about $40 to change to LAX where I picked him up ,then after his leave I took him to SD because it was only 3 hours away from where I live.

My son's expreience was that his ticket was already ready to go, he did not have a say so as to where he wanted to fly until he had the ticket in his hand & then called the airlines to change the flight. Also while on leave, my son spoke to his recruiter & worked a couple of hrs a day with him so he didn't have to use all his leave all but 4 days so now he has more time accumalted for another occasion.

Things change so much or are never clear.............as for welcome to hurry up & wait..that is exactly how it is!

Where in Cali is your son being located to?

RE to : mamamary805-  he will be in San Diego.   He just graduated from boot camp, right before he went to Pensacola, so I don't know when he started earning leave (the 2.5 days per month)    thanks, everyone for all the info.

They start earning their leave from the day they swear their final oath at MEPS and depart for boot camp.
