It is now just 2 weeks until my son leaves for bc. He leaves on Election day, my head & heart are spining our household is crazy with emotions... my youngest daughter a freshman in high school is also in the fall play ,2 parts and it starts 3 days before he leaves. When I say household crazy with emotions I mean all of us, 2 teenage daughters & son and me,mom one minute we are all laughing & fun times and then we can't wait to get a way from each other,lol... also, we are trying to make things loving , comfortable and cherish our time together. The waiting anxiety and the unknown being new to all this is a little overwhelming.

Please any advice is much appreciated

Stay busy and the time will go by fast. Start writing letters after he leaves and have them ready to go into the mail as soon as you get his address with ship/division. Those letters are like gold. Be sure and send plenty of stamps with him. It takes a few weeks but I always looked forward to Thursday/Fridays when we would get a letter back from him. My son wrote to all of his friends too. We fly out tomorrow to our son's graduation on Friday. We are so proud and excited to see him. I've prayed daily for my son's division successful completion of bc. It really helps!

Everything you are experiencing seems perfectly normal given the circumstances... Once he leaves the time will start to fly by and before you know it you will be at PIR.  I would love to experience that day again..take in every single minute of it.  It is an experience of a lifetime.

Same emotions in my house prior to my son leaving Oct. 1.   First week or two after he left it was the same up and down emotions.   It is now his 4th week and after receiving a letter letting us know he's doing really well and that he loves where he is and what he is doing.   Those emotions are gone.   Just lots of pride in him for what he is doing..    It does get better.

I am in the same position as you.  In two weeks I have to say goodbye to my son.  I know he is ready and I thought I was, but the emotions are starting already.  This is so hard.

Said goodbye yesterday, just stopped crying a few hours ago, Christmas is my favorite time of the year, starting with Thanksgiving and he won't be here for either. I don't know how I will get through it. I do have two older sons who are in the neighborhood and I see them daily, but this is going to be the first Christmas that I am not with my son all together. So I know how you are feeling, This site is very helpful.

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in November. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.
