Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The day has arrived for my son to leave. It came much to fast for me but he is very excited and I'm happy for that but I'm very sad. He doesn't want me to go to the airport tomorrow I want to but understand why he wants to say bye tonight. Did anyone go to airport or did most say bye at the hotel? Also does anyone have any idea what the approximate graduation date might be? If your son/daughter leaves tomorrow would you mind getting back to me maybe we could keep in touch. Thank you!!

My husband and I planned to go to his swear in ceremony, but the recruiter gave us the wrong time, and we couldn't attend. In hindsight, I think my son didn't want me to go. LOL Seeing him get in the recruiter's car to drive to MEPS was hard on us.In just 8 short weeks, he'd changed! It was amazing! You should get the official form letter in about two weeks. Keep coming on this website for support! Start writing letters, and getting encouragement cards to send so you can mail asap after getting his address. The Navy is going to take care of him! We are here for you! Navy Mom Strong!

Comment by LibbyGu on November 23, 2014 at 2:08pm: I said goodbye the night before. My Dad went to the morning ceremony. My husband was supposed to go but got stuck in traffic!! My father said there were very few parents there and it was over very quickly. I found that in my PIR group on facebook lots of parents connected and some that WERE there had pics for those that were not. The pics are of the backs of there heads anyway! I know my son did not want me there because I cry very easily and he wanted to get going on his big adventure, not comfort me. Start writing letters now, so when you get his address in a few weeks you have one to go every day - nice upbeat newsy letters! Most everyone of us in our PIR group have noticed our kids are doing very well and staying strong, and surprisingly we parents are too! I have less than three weeks until PIR and it went by faster than I thought it would. Best of luck to you and yours!

When you don't include a title, the NING program automatically puts the first 200 characters of your post in as the title and that gets pretty long. Click "Options" in the upper right, then "Edit Post" and insert a title.

Comment by Steph Proud AG Mom on December 3, 2014 at 2:24pm: oh boy.. it's hard. My daughter was supposed to ship out March 4th, I was there for her final swear in and boarded the bus. Her flight was canceled because of a bad storm in GL. We got one more night with her, and she made it to GL on March 6th. It gets easier as the weeks go by. Count your Fridays. I'm getting ready to watch another leave for RTC in July 2015. He's my youngest and it's hitting a little harder than it did with her.. Good luck to you! Navy Mom Hugs!!
