I am just feeling my around this site, trying to learn how to communicate with other mom's who are so proud their hearts are about to burst, but at the same time who's hearts are broken just thinking about being seperated from their loved one.  My son took his first swearing on December 14th, 2012.  He was accepted into the Nuke program and given a BC date of October 1, 2013.  He's ready to go right now, but I'm enjoying the days we have left together.  I want to communicate with all of you, but especially the Nuke moms with the October BC date.   I hope I learn how to use this site real fast because I know I'm going to need your support.  Thank you for letting me join you!

I see you have joined NUKE moms; you will also want to join Leavin' for bootcamp in October and/or October Boot Camp Family to connect with others with loved ones who may be leaving the same day/week and may have PIR with your Future Sailor. As it gets closer to his ship date, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

Be sure to check out OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile); you need to make change number 2 at the bottom.

BTW, edit your Blog to add a Post Title. When you don't include a title, the NING program automatically puts the first 200 characters of your post in as the title and that gets pretty long. Click "Options" in the upper right, then "Edit Post" and insert a title.

My son was a nuke officer on a submarine. Your son will have many civilian job opportunities if he decides to join the civilian world after he is done.

In the meantime, I would like to suggest the following:

1)  Don't ask questions about bootcamp in the Nuke Moms group - that group is intended for families whose sons/daughters are done w bootcamp, A School and are down the pipeline going to Nuke Power School or Prototype. It'll get more complicated and stressful.

2)  The groups listed by lemonelephant are the perfect groups for you to join at the moment. Get to know the "Navy Life" and you'll be in company with all the other members who are just getting their feet wet. You'll probably meet up with others going in as Nukes.

3)   Click on all the links and read up on stuff. The more you read, the better prepare you are.

4)   However, if you find that you are stressing out because of information overload, then slow down - take a break. Just make sure that you go thru the Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for...

5)   Enjoy you time with you son.  This is really the last time he'll be your "little boy" - he'll grow in the time he is in the Navy.  Make sure he is fit and ready to go.  Make sure he doesn't hang out with the wrong crowd. Make sure he doesn't try marijuana or get a DUI (or a girl pregnant).  We are being real practical here.

Good luck and please thank him for his commitment to be a part of our military force.

One last thing, if you click on options, then edit blog - you can add a title to your blog (something short and sweet).

My son is leaving for BC the same day and has been accepted into the Nuke program. I am sure we will have lots to share with each other!
