Well today is day 4 and it is getting a little easier. I have managed to stay busy and work has been very busy (which is very good). We had a client appreciation on Saturday and I had several client ask how my son was doing and if he got off okay. It was nice to brag on him some. Then we went to dinner with some really good friends and were able to catch up on the kids. I have been friends with this woman since 7th grade, almost 22 years ago and both of our kids went to the same school but were in different organizations. Sunday I was a little down in the dumps, but was able to get some much needed rest. This weekend coming up I have a baptism and I will be walking in the March of Dimes walk. I also received a call from my son's girlfriend (of almost 2 years) inviting me to her college band concert coming up. She is a very sweet young woman and texts me to make sure i'm okay. I am sure I will be very sad when I get his box of stuff and his cell phone back.

For those who don't have such a great support system as I do through family and friends, I hope this site helps you and gives you support.

It's nice that you have so much support and good friends.  My son hasn't left yet so I'm still in the "dreading him leaving" phase of my Navy experience.  This site has helped me so much, it's nice to know that other moms are out there and going through similar things.  Also I would like to thank you for your support to the March of Dimes. They do wonderful work. Hang in there and know that there are alot of us and we all keep good thoughts to have all our children be safe

nmwilson your welcome. I think it really hit me that he was leaving when we had his going away party.I just kept trying to be strong for him and would not let him see my cry. But on the day I took him to the recruiter station I could not hold back any longer. His girlfriend was with me and I kept trying to not let her see me cry all the way home. Hang in there and try to spend as much mommy son time you can. I told mine we were having a mommy son day the day after his party. We went to his fathers grave to put out some flowers, then he took me to lunch and then my husband, step-son and son's girlfriend went to the gun range to spend time as a family. Afterwards my son took us all to dinner. Which was a nice treat.
