Okay - so I might just be going through one of those "okay, he's in BC now and the journey is really just beginning so I better get a grip" Acceptance phases but felt the need to share all the same..........so, having taken a deeeeeeeep breath I offer the following for you to ponder on:

Sadness is only an emotion

An emotion is merely a thought

A thought is a controllable action

.....an action, that when leading to sadness, must be dismissed

and replaced by an action that leads not to tears but rather to joy!

Our sons & daughters have made brave choices - choices to challenge themselves and to fufill their dreams.  As difficult as it may be for us all, our tears can be turned into tears of joy - celebrating their passion, tears of happiness - that we've raised strong-willed and independent young men/women, and tears of pride - for the bravery and selflessness our sons & daughters are each willing to put before the world on our behalf!

God Bless, protect, and guide them all !!

.....and that, my friends, is from the heart.

Amen!  Ain't gonna lie, our first week w/o my son, my boys' big brother was a tough one.  I couldn't believe I was so broken up.  Finally, I had to remind myself that he didn't die, he had simply chosen to take charge of his life; which is what we want for all of our children.  He chose to do what many others fear, step out of the comfort zone of being around family and friends... live the unknown... and unknowingly, be selfless... he is serving not only himself but his country.  And that, my friend, makes me very proud.  It makes his absence easier to take.  We are going on our 2nd week.  We received "the box"... yesterday we received the information letter... *sigh* and now a call will do me fine.  LOL!   I agree with you... GOD BLESS to all of those young men and women!  And, THANK YOU!

That was a beautiful message...from the heart! A sentiment shared by all us moms, thank you for putting the feelings into words. I think a big part of this process is the emptiness we feel, the unknown - but when you have something to hold onto...words for the emptiness, it takes that emotion that sadness and  makes it easier to dismiss and redirect. Your words ring so true, and on the days I struggle with the sadness, I will remember these words (after I let out a good hefty cry!). Thank you!
