For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A school
I was wondering what kind of stuff my sailor can take to A school? Laptop, Ipods, books, etc. Christmas is right around the corner and my son leaves Jan 5 for boot camp. I was thinking about getting him some stuff he could take to A school (knowing he can't take anything to boot). Help?

Find out what interests him in the way of electronics. I know some guys (and gals) are very geeky about their electronics (never get an ipad for an android fanatic and so on). Because you may find a great deal in a Kindle, ad turns out what they really wanted was a Nook. Maybe a gift card to the store which sells the stuff would do if you don't know what they'd prefer.
Theft is rampant in the barracks at A school. You can get a lo-jack security system for laptops.
A really nice watch which fits Navy uniform regs is a good idea.

So, don't send anything worth too much money with him to a school.... Why do people have to steal anyway? That is very sad. I was wondering about this because I didn't know how much stuff he could take with him. An ipod might be a good idea, it is small and will be easy to pack when they have to move. His other ipod broke so this would be a good idea. He has a laptop so he can take that to school too. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.
