After PIR Navy graduation - May 13th 2016 - what do we do?

Graduation was so great. It really was. Emotional and a few snafu's but a brilliant moment in time. I'm very proud of my girl and her mates.

Now what do we do?

Your graduate can only go within 50 miles of the base.

Ask your Seaman how they are feeling. Remember they haven't been on the civilian side for 2-3 months and it is overwhelming to some.

Bring their cell phone they will want to take pics and post to family and friend or call family like grandparents who may not have come.

Take pictures. Take pics with family but ask your recruit to take photos with her mates too. I'm sure they made a great friend or two. They will not think about it. We took pics of their families and friends.

Make sure they know when they have to be back. You may read different stories but they will know specifically when the have to be back to their compartment. Also remember that they have a ten minute walk after you drop them off. My girl had to be back at 7 p.m. Which meant we needed to be back at the drop off point at 6:30 in case there were issues at the gate and so she could walk her ten minutes back to her compartment. It was perfect timing. If you drive remember your base pass you had to print out or only your recruit can get in and there are 600 kids returning back in that I've frame. Be prepared. Have id for all persons In your car.

If you are traveling to Chicago take the train at the base. It will save you time and you wont have to worry about traffic issues. It picks up right at the entrance gate. Really, taking a taxi is worth it.

If you are driving your graduate to and from Chicago it is an hour to and and hour from. Don't make your recruit late.

There is a great mall at Gurney Hills just 10 minutes away and also has everything your graduate may need or want. 6 flags is 15 minutes away.

Ask them what they want to do. Some may just want to go to the hotel, eat, visit, sleep, etc. my girl needed underwear. The granny panties were gonna go away. Moms Victoria's Secret is at Gurney Hill mall.... Just sayin. She needed a watch to wear with all her uniforms. She wanted Buffalo Wild Wings. She wanted to just look around. Everyone wished her a happy graduation. She is proud.

We spent the whole time just hanging out, shopping, and talking and being goofy. Lottsa candid shots. Lottsa love and hugs.

Remember plan your time. Be on time. Enjoy your time.

I'll post some tips and tricks soon.

Have the best day.
