Hi, My name is Andrea and I became a Navy Mom on Wednesday.  My Son, Kyle has been talking about joining the military for a long time and he finally enlisted.  He is following in the footsteps of several family members and I couldn't be prouder.  For the past few day my heads been kinda swimming with the thought of him leaving.  He's my first born and only Son.  I'm not sure how to go about connecting on this site, I don't know anyone and there is so much information on this site it's kinda overwhelming.  If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.  My Sisters have told me that they are surprised by how well I'm dealing with this.  I don't think it will hit me until he leaves in September for boot camp.  We will see how this play out.

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September. You will meet others with loved ones leaving the same day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

Hello Andrea my name is Lori. Like you I'm a new Navy Mom as well, my son Troy just joined as well. He will not be leaving for Boot Camp until Dec, like you my mind has been going in so many different directions. I'm so proud of him but as a mother I worry. He is my only true child, I have step children, but he is my baby. I have a hard time realizing he has grown up on me and it's time for him to spread his wings and fly. Any time you need someone to talk to you can email me or IM if you want. We can pull together and help each other through this time together.

Hi Andrea and Lori, my name is Darlene and I'm new to this also.   My son Mike just signed his contract this past week, he leaves for bc in Dec.  Looks like all of here that commented are feeling the same way.  I am so very proud and excited for him and at the same time overwhelmed.  Yes lets all pull together!

Darlene, that is great that Mike has join the Navy. So he leaves for boot camp Dec 10, that is when Troy leaves. I see your from Lancaster that is about a little over an hour from me. Maybe our son's will be on the same ship together and help each other being from the same area being away from home. If you would like to talk let me know.

Lori, Mike leaves Dec 8th for bc. His A school is in Great lakes also, so he will be there for some time.  He told me that his school was about 10 wks. He is so excited about this and so proud of himself and what he as accomplished so far.

mikesmom, yes, OS "A" School is about 10 weeks. The Rating Information Card for OS can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/os.pdf. Sometime between now and the end of BC, you will want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms and also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.
